《Designs of Love (TP2)》52 - Jen Goodwin, The Point

Jen had just finished a job in Portland. A single surgeon owned the chic waterfront condo. One of her New York clients who went to medical school with the doctor recommended her.

Driving home she realized it had been a long week. She was tired and also in pain and needed to get home for relief. When she entered the home she loved, she was glad it was quiet, but knew it wasn't empty. She went up to the bedroom to change into sweats and she found Alex on their bed, but he wasn't alone. On his chest sound asleep was their daughter.

He looked at her as she entered, and she lay on the bed beside them. "How long has she been asleep?"

"Not long. We were waiting for you."

"You'll spoil her." Jen kissed his cheek and touched the silken head of her baby. "I'm in pain. If she's not hungry, I'll go pump. I hated being away from her all day."

"It's not every day and your mother loves taking care of her." Alex reminded her.

"I know. I also know that I love you and I'm the luckiest woman alive."

"Well, that makes two of us because I'm the luckiest man to have my two special girls."

Sterling had called her earlier with some news. He and Trevor were moving to San Francisco to start over. They had grown weary of Manhattan. The conversation was pleasant enough and at the end, he asked, "Are you still happy with your builder?"

"Happier than I ever knew possible. Your cheating was the best thing that ever happened to me."

The last time she saw Sterling was at Avery, and Tom's New York wedding. Sterling told her she looked beautiful. She asked, "Even six months pregnant?"

"Yes. I should be mad at you for lying to me."

"Did I lie?" She laughed as she watched Alex approaching from across the ballroom.

"I remember having a very different idea of the builder you complained about."

"He was a pain when I first met him, but it was you that thought he was old and fat. I just never corrected you."

Alex approached and said, "Are you alright?"

She took Alex's hand and said, "Perfectly."

Occasionally Jen would think back to the life she once lived. The pace, the city, and the wealthy clients meant nothing to her because she learned that love, family, and home fulfilled her the most.
