I KNEW I MADE a mistake as soon as I woke up alone in a strange bed. I slowly sit up and my eyes take stock of the dimly lit room. It was huge. The walls were a neutral tan color with dark wood-paneled wainscoting. I look behind me and there, was a one entire wall, from floor to ceiling, was glass. I can tell the night has fallen as I drifted over to the windows and pulled the curtains aside, blinking, gasping in shock.

Wide acres of clear greenfield and thick lines of trees lay before me. No buildings or city lights on sight. There was wall that seems to go on for miles surrounded by dense woods. There are a few areas where the trees thin out and far to the east of the house, and I don't see the house on the other side of that wall. Only more trees. This place is like a fortress. Where the hell am I?

For several minutes I could only stand with my nose to the glass, staring out at the clearing. I could only recall half the plane ride because I fell asleep. How in the hell did I manage to fall asleep without knowing where I was going? What awaited me?

So stupid.

Finally I tore myself from the view and examined the rest of the room. There was a dark brown leather couch, love seat, and chair in the center of the room, with a glass-topped coffee table. There was an open doorway to the right, but from the rows of hanging suits, I could easily see that it must lead to a walk-in closet. Another door across the room was slightly ajar. I didn't have to see inside to know it was probably a bathroom.

On the bedside table was a manila file folder. I sat down on the carpeted floor with my back against the bed and pulled the folder onto my lap. I hesitated, and then flipped it open. Front and center was a photograph of a wrecked car on a foot of a cliff surrounded by large stones and giant trees. The next page is a grainy image taken from a cctv where a man and woman stood in front of their car on the side of the road with headlights shining behind them. Although it's dark, I can tell that the woman is hugging a small puppy in her arms and the man had one hand behind her back. I perused it briefly, then flipped the page.

I nearly dropped the folder, so surprised of what I see at the next photograph. The man now laid on the ground a few feet away, blood seeping beneath his body and the woman had been pinned between the hood of the second car and the tree behind her, unmoving. The next photograph was of the driver who stepped out of her car. She was looking behind her clutching a phone against her ear, the road light shining above her illuminating her panic-stricken face and I had to choke back my own horror when I realized it was my mother. There was a whole series of photographs and my eyes perused it wildly, my body shaking, my head reeling.

The location has changed. The couple's car now sat at the edge of a cliff, five men in hooded shirts stood around it. The unconscious couple was now inside the car, the man in the passenger seat and the woman was placed behind the wheel. One of the men can be seen reaching inside the car and the last image was of them looking down the cliff to see the wreckage.

When I flipped to the last page, my stomach roiled and tears flow down as I read the headline of a newspaper. They believed it was suicide. That they had a start up business and was depressed after losing multiple investment deals and that night they couldn't take it anymore and decided to end their lives, leaving their 7-year old son to fend for himself. It was his birthday. Below the texts is their family photo, all of them were smiling, clear happiness in their eyes as to what seem like a day in the park that time. The son had a huge grin on his face, cute button nose and short cut blonde hair.

My body froze when I realized who I am staring at.

It was Kade.

Blinding pain sliced through my chest and I couldn't see past the tears in my eyes. The pieces of the puzzle were falling together, quickly. Kade had planned everything. He wanted revenge. He hates my family. I know that without a doubt. He abhors us.

"They're all going to die."

I heard his iron-cold tenor cutting through the silence and my head swivel to the door. Every muscle in my face tightening as I watched him. His jaw is clenched, the line of it somehow sharper for that tightness and barely hidden beneath the five-o'clock shadow. His eyes are on fire, almost black with rage, feral.

"A sick bastard of a father who takes pleasure on using his money to manipulate people," he continues. He stared daggers at me, his shoulders stiff as stone and he look like a predator when he advances, only stopping when he's towering over me. When I can almost feel the heat coming off him. The sheer power of him like waves of electric energy ready to zap me.

"A selfish sister who fucks the town priest every chance she gets," he reach out and he begins to twist a handful of my hair around his fist. I force myself mentally not to move or react but I can't stop my body from trembling.

I thought I knew fear. As I stare at Kade's punishing eyes, I realise that I know nothing about fear. Kade hates me. He loathes me. I can imagine him playing my death in the back of his mind. I expect him to pull, to hurt me, and I brace myself.

"A whore of a mother who will spreads her legs to anyone in town whose willing,"

I closed my eyes, and try not to hyperventilate while his knuckles leave a trail of goosebumps up my arms as I felt him wraps his large hand around my neck. His next words are like a knife cutting through my insides.

"In fact, you're a product of one of her affairs. Did you know that?"

My body stills before pain like I never felt before sliced through me and I choke on a sob. "Stop,"

He tighten his grip and my eyes flew open in panic, my chest heaves with each breath. "She was on her way home after meeting your father, her drug dealer, drunk and high as a fucking skank without an ounce of care with anyone in the road."

His gaze meets mine and his eyes are on fire, almost black like a feral animal. The raw rage coming off him is palpable. I know being on the wrong end of that is lethal. And I'm here, in his sights, the object of his hate.

"It won't be long before your parents, or all of them, puts a bullet through their head." He tugs my hair, holding it taut forcing my head to tilt backward.

"And you my butterfly is mine." A sinister smile pulls on his lips and I swallow as my shoulders shiver. "Mine to break," he graze his teeth against my jaw and I struggle in his hold. "Mine to rule,"

He smile as he wipe my cheeks with his thumb, but it's pointless. The tears keep coming. His gaze drops to watch the swell of my breasts and he leans down and place a chaste kiss above. "And mine to fuck whenever I please."

I looked up, wide-eyed, hoping for some sort of compassion, something to latch onto while I swirled in misery, but he stayed straight and taut, eyes closed off.

"I'm not going to be your fucking sex slave." I said in a strangled voice.

There was a brief pause as his gaze captured mine, holding me prisoner in their pale green depths. Something dark and urgent flashed, then disappeared. Eyes dropped to my lips and his mouth parted. The heavy, heated air seared us. Every crackle of flames made me twitch.

Do not move. Do not move.

Then Kade smirked in a way that made me want to beg for mercy. "You can hate me and still love how I make you feel."

As I sat there, staring up at his expressionless face, I realized that I had no cards to play. And even if I had cards, he owned the freaking table. I was completely trapped, a caged bird with clipped wings. I glance over his shoulder and he's watching me when I turn my eyes to his.

"Do you want to run for it?" he asks as if he's just noted my interest in that exit. I don't answer. He's playing with me.

"Freedom is just a few feet away." He smiles wide and steps aside. He extends his arm, gesturing to the door. "You can try, I suppose. You won't get far, but you can try, Ayla."

I don't move and all I hear is the pumping of blood through my veins, my ears ringing with adrenaline, my head reeling with the possibility of getting away from him.

"Go on. You want to." He's goading me. He leans closer, his scruff brushing my skin, breath a whisper along my ear. "But if you do, know when I catch you, I will punish you. And I will catch you."

I shudder at his words. Fight or flight.
