Would like facetime...
Semaj clicked the green button on the second ring, allowing the call to connect. He sat up in his bed, leaning against the brown headboard before Sarai's naturally sad-looking face popped into the camera.
He was used to her always looking sad. Usually, people had a natural mean mug like him but she just had a natural sad look.
"Hiiii, are you busy?" She smiled, showing her black rub band braces.
"Nah, you straight?" He asked, looking to see where she was and noticing she was in her room but in her hiding spot. He didn't know why she had a hiding spot but it was kinda funny and adorable to him.
"Yes. Are you straight?" She tilted her head to the side and he nodded. "Good. Don't you wanna come wit' me to Suga Sweets?" She started grinning.
"Leelee must be busy?" He raised his eyebrow and she started laughing. "Ain' nothin' funny. You be forgettin' about me ever since y'all go close" He tried to hide his own smile.
He was happy Sarai made a new friend, a genuine friend. He knew how hard it was for her, especially with the girls at their school only being cool with her to get to him, or Rell or JB
They never went for the girls that she was cool with for the simple fact, that they saw right through the funny acting ways. None of them played when it came to Sarai, especially Semaj. He didn't care if you were a boy or girl, if you disrespected her then he was going to disrespect you.
She never took up for herself so he did it for her. It took a lot to really make her mad so he knew she wasn't going to defend herself unless you touched her.
"I forgot you?! It's the other way around! You be wit' yo' girlfriend and forgot all about li' ole Ray" She playfully rolled her eyes.
He sucked his teeth before busting out laughing "Stop callin' that girl, my girlfriend. I'm about ta' cut her off while you playin' " He shook his head and started to get up from his queen-size bed.
"Why? I thought you liked her. You took her on a date" She furrowed her eyebrows and he saw her moving around before he put his phone on his dresser.
"We ain' got shit in common beside us havin' sex. She not my typa' girl. She likes ta' be seen and I ain't wit' allat" He spoke, putting on his basic white t-shirt. "And she gettin' too attached and I don't feel the same about her," He added.
"What do you mean by like to be seen?" She asked.
"You kno' me, I'm laid back and chill. She liked to broadcast everything to everybody. She like havin' everyone in her business, I get that wanting ta' ask yo' friends for advice and shît but why is yo' friend over playing they part? Why are they texting me trying to put us in group chats to play therapy?" He shook his head.

Sarai started laughing "Really Maj? Therapy?" She still laughed and he joined in the laugh.
"Hell yeah. They swear they sum' relationship counselors. I ain' sayin' don't tell them shit cause I go to my niggas too but they ain' playin' Messenger you feel me? They ain' goin' back and forth wit' oh he said this and he feels like that. It's jus' childish to me and annoying as hell" He ranted, going into his bottom drawer to grab a pair of grey Nike shorts.
"True but you gotta remember, we are still in high school. All of us ain't fully mature 'cause we are still learning." She reasoned.
He nodded while putting the shorts on over his boxers "That's cool. You ain' finna do it wit' me tho." He scoffed. "You tell her to chill out and stop havin' everyone in our business, then her friends come back trying to ask why I don't want them to kno' shit. Grow up and find y'all sumthin' ta' do. Got get some money or something"
Sarai laughed "Ima be on the way in 15 tho" He grabbed his phone from the top of the dresser. He looked at the phone, seeing her in the mirror of her bathroom, doing her edges.
"Okayyyy"

I need you, baby, to warm the lonely nights🎶
Can't take my eyes off of you by Lauryn Hill played throughout the local bakery shop where teens spend most of their after-school days. Sarai stood close to Semaj's tall body as they both looked at the menu in front of them, not knowing what to get.
"Oouu, last time I came, I got the strawberry shortcake wit' vanilla ice cream and pecans. It was sooo good" Sarai said lowly but Semaj could hear her perfectly. He adapted to listening hard to her over the years when they got in public.
"That's what you want?" He asked, glancing down at her.
She shook her head no "I think I want the peach cobbler wit' Vanilla ice cream. You think Ari is here today?" She wondered, speaking about the owner of the bakery.
Semaj started grinning, "I hope so. Her fine ass. Who told her to get married?" He furrowed his eyebrows, moving up in the line. Sarai chuckled "That was 4 years ago. Get over it. My lord" She shook her head at him.
"4 years ago and I'm still heartbroken. I thought she was gon' wait on me" He dramatically sighed. Everyone in Charlotte knew of Ariyah Knight, all the young teenage boys grew little crushes over her when she opened her shop up.
She was and always will be his celebrity crush.
She was locally famous to him but she was a social media influencer and very well known in their city mainly because of her husband.
"Boy get over it. I had to get over it when she took my man" She started fake sniffling. He mushed her head, chuckling a little "He didn't want yo' ass." He teased.
"In my head, yes he did. He is so handsome and he got that million-dollar smile." She started fanning herself with her hand and leaning on his arm.

"Aight. You doin' too much now" He mugged her and pushed her off of him. She started laughing as they were now next in line. He ordered for both of them and paid after fussing for a few minutes in front of the cashier about who should pay.
"Why do you really want to come here?" Semaj asked after they sat in the booth to wait for their dessert to be called out. She looked at her funny "Whatchu' mean? I jus' haven't been here in a while and wanted to come" She shrugged, playing with the straw wrapper.
"Sarai," He said simply. He knew her like the back of his hand and he also knew she wouldn't be in her secret hiding spot for nothing when she called. She only goes in there when something is bothering her.
He always knew with her and Carmen growing closer, she would have asked her to come with her instead of him.
She sighed "My umm. My mama and daddy were arguing again today. Boogie wasn't home but they were so loud, and-and my mama kicked him out" She started to tear up "I-I don't want them to divorce or anything. They were so mad at each other, they were just screaming at each other. This was the second time Semaj" She tucked her lips into her mouth.
Semaj got up and moved to the side of the booth where she was. He was honestly shocked, her parents were a black happy, and healthy couple. Every time he came over, he always saw them laughing with each other or cuddling on the couch together.
He never expected them to argue if they even did, they never did it in front of Sarai and Ka'jai.
"Y-you think he would cheat on her?" She mumbled, asking when he pulled her into his chest and rubbed her back to comfort her.
His eyes widened. "He cheated?" He questioned in shock. He's seen a lot with couples being that his dad was in a good number of them but he would never think of her dad cheating on her mom.
"That's what they were arguing about. She kept accusing him of it because you kno' since my uncle passed, he's been working nonstop for the past almost 2 years. He's always on the road now and barely home. She thinks he is lyin' and really out with another woman" She sniffed, wiping her face.
He nodded, listening intently. He didn't want to tell her he was because it was so hard for him to believe her dad was a cheater.
"What do you think?" He asked.
"You kno' I'm a daddy's girl. He can't do any evil in my eyes. But he has been working a lot more but I think he's jus' overworkin' himself so he doesn't have to think so much of his little brother gone. You kno' my daddy basically raised my uncle so his death really messed him up. And when he's on the road, I always call him like 5 times a day and he's always in that truck so I'on kno. I hope not" She sighed as he rubbed her arm up and down.
"It's gon' be aight. Couples fight, they've been together so long, it isn't always gon' be peaches and cream. It's probably jus' some miscommunication, he didn't cheat" He said.
She nodded "Yeah. You right"
He knew she was overthinking it in her head now. She's not used to this, she grew up in a loving home where her parents showed nothing but affection to each other and their kids. He could understand why she was really upset about it.
"I wanted to bring y'all this. It seemed like y'all were havin' a moment and I didn't want to mess that up" Ari chuckled, setting their Desserts on the table.
"Y'all are such a cute couple, enjoy!" She smiled before leaving the table.
Semaj furrowed his eyebrow a little at her, calling them a 'couple'. For some reason, every time he and Sarai were out together people always referred to them as a 'couple'.
He slid Sarai her bowl first before moving back to the other side of the table. He grabbed the first phone that he saw, not knowing it wasn't his phone. He looked at the lock screen and saw a picture of them as kids.
"Oh, this yo'—" He stopped talking when he caught a glimpse of the Instagram notification of someone DM Sarai. He scrunched his face up "Who is Santanagotfanss?" He questioned, looking up at her.
Sarai looked up from her bowl and reached out to grab her phone but he moved it before she could. "Gimme my phone" She reached for it again only for him to move it again.
"How you kno' him?" He raised his eyebrow, looking back at the message of Santana asking what she was doing. He knew who Santana was but he wanted to know how she knew him.
More so of why he was messaging her.
She shrugged, scooping the ice cream on her plastic black spoon "Leelee and I did an interview for his tik-tok or youtube at the game last week and he followed me later that night. He DM me the next morning and we have small talk here and there" She explained then put the spoon in her mouth.
"What y'all be talkin' about?" He asked, finally giving her the phone back.
"Why?" She raised her eyebrows, reaching her spoon over to get some of the cinnamon buns he had.
He shrugged, moving his bowl closer to her so she didn't have to keep reaching over. "Jus' askin' " He kept it simple, not really knowing why he was asking.
It was kinda weird he was asking but he guessed it was because knew Santana. He hadn't heard anything bad of him but he had a bad feeling. Nobody was good enough for Sarai in his eyes though.
She was pure and full of love. Only someone that was going to reciprocate was good enough for her.
