《A Second Chance at Love (Millionaire Romance)》34

ina finally rose from the floor after crying for what seemed like an hour. Nina glanced at her watch and it showed she had actually been there for two hours.
Nina swiped at the tears on her face and headed toward her room. She wanted to run after Tristan and explain to him how she was being blackmailed, but he wouldn't listen to her.
She couldn't blame him. She wanted to make things right, but what could she do? It wasn't like she could give Tristan the money back. Nick had it and he would never give it to her.
Nina opened up the spacious closet and grabbed her clothes off the rack. She still didn't have much since she hadn't gone shopping. All her money was saved in her bank account.
She laid the clothes across the bed. She went back into the closet and grabbed a couple of tennis shoes and her one luggage. Nina swiped at another tear that fell down her cheek.
She grabbed the little makeup that she had and placed the makeup bag inside her luggage and zipped it up.
It felt like someone had stomped all over her heart and left her with the broken pieces to put back together herself.
Nina finished folding the clothes and also stuck her tennis shoes inside the luggage.
Nina texted Trisha to let her know she was coming by her place. It was her day off, so she wasn't at the mansion working. Nina texted her back, stating that she was okay with that. She didn't tell her in the text what had happened only that she needed to talk to her.
Nina then called for an Uber which said she had to wait another fifteen minutes. Nina sighed and grabbed the handle of her bag. She glanced around the room making sure she didn't forget anything. Once she was satisfied she opened and closed the door shut.

Nina made her way downstairs into the living room. Her heart pounded hoping to see Tristan there but when she looked out the window she noticed that his car was gone.
Nina sniffled and told herself to stop crying. It's your fault. You have no reason to cry.
Nina glanced at her phone when she heard it ringing. It was a number that she didn't recognize but she answered it anyway.
"Hello," Nina said.
"Hi, this is Theresa from Dallas Memorial Hospital. Is this Nina White?"
Nina held the phone tighter. "This is she."
"Your grandmother went into cardiac arrest. We tried everything we could to save her but she passed away. Can you come to-"
Nina's phone slipped out of her hands. She dropped to the floor shaking her head at what she was just told.
Nina had just visited her yesterday morning. They were laughing and making jokes about how she couldn't wait to leave the hospital.
"This has to be a joke," Nina said to herself. "When I make it to the hospital she will be fine and giving me her warm smiles."
Nina grabbed her phone and stood up on shaky legs. She clicked on the Uber app and changed her destination from Trisha's home to the hospital.
Nina didn't wait longer than five minutes when she rushed out the front door to the Uber car. She announced herself to the older-looking male and got in the car.
"Please GOD...let her be okay," she whispered.
Nina was standing outside of her grandmother's hospital door. She had spoken to Theresa again when she had reached the nurses' desk. She had a look of sympathy in her eyes when she had told her that they tried to resuscitate her three times before the doctor stated she was gone.

Nina grabbed the door hand, willing her hands to stop shaking. She opened the door and she choked on a sob. Nina stumbled over to her grandmother.
She was no longer hooked up to any more IVs. There was no more beeping of the machines.
"Grandma, please wake up," she said, lightly shaking her.
Her grandmother's eyes were closed like she was in the most peaceful sleep.
Nina grabbed her limp hand. "You...you promised that you would live to see me marry Tristan. You promised you would be around to see your grandkids."
Nina's tears flowed as she rested her head against her grandmother's chest.
"Please don't leave me. You're all I have," she said, letting the tears drench the white sheet covering her grandmother.
"Mrs. White?" a female voice asked.
Nina turned around to see Theresa standing there in her blue scrubs with her long black hair in a ponytail.
"We called the funeral home on your behalf. They're here to take her now."
Theresa nodded and squeezed her grandmother's limp hand before a dark-skinned black man and a Hispanic man who were both in shape prepared to get her grandmother.
Nina turned around, not wanting to see them cover her up because then it would really feel like reality and not a dream.
Nina turned around once one of the men asked her if she would come to the funeral home to get more things situation. She turned around and nodded her head.
She stopped in her tracks when she saw her mother standing there with tears rolling down her cheeks. Nina noticed that her skin had an even more healthy sheen to it and she had a little make-up on. She looked like she was back to her normal self but Nina couldn't be fooled again.
"What are you doing here?" Nina asked, frowning.
"I came to visit but I was told she just passed away," her mother said.
"Don't pretend as if you actually care," Nina said, walking towards her.
Nina stopped a few inches from her. She glared at her mother, hating her for how she treated her and Naomi, and how she would always pit the two sisters against one another.
"Nina, I'm sorry for everything I've done. I know that I've hurt you and your sister but I'm a changed woman now."
Nina laughed to keep from crying. "How many times have you said you were sorry and ended up doing the same things over and over again?"
Her mother reached out to grab her hand, but Nina yanked it free. "Don't touch me. I want nothing to do with you."
Nina rushed out of the hospital room, wondering how this day could get any worse.
