《The Golden Girl》30. When he broke

And when he looked at her, he just knew, it was time to breath in the air of silent and magical beginnings.

"Pineapple in pizza is awesome, alright? Now, shut up and just drive." She pulled his hair, making him groan in pain.

"Why would you do that?" He grabbed her hands and playfully glared at her.

"Cause you just said that pineapple is shit." She crossed her arms around her chest and pouted.

"It's gross." He scrunched his nose, trying to look as if he was disgusted by her choice.

Oh trust me, in inside, he was dying of laughter.

"I hate you." She grumbled, the glare fixed on the road.

"You love me, sunshine." He said, laughing hysterically.

And at that, she showed him the finger, glaring at him, trying really really hard to ignore the elephants that were making its way to her stomach.

She fucking loved his laugh. She loved the way it made him squint his eyes, how it made the dimples appear in both side of his cheeks. She loved it.

"Zach called when we were in the gas station. Apparently, even my cousins are gonna be there." River grumbled after some time, his eyes on the road.

"As in Maggie and Andrew?" She asked, horror flashing in her eyes.

"Yah, them." He said, he himself sounding annoyed.

"Andrew is gonna be there..."

"I swear sunshine, if he will try to get into your pants this time, I will make him risk his whole generation." River gritted out, his knuckles turning white.

Well, well, let's just say, Andrew is someone who has a fetish for Faye.

"As long as you are there, no one can lay a finger on me." She mumbled, making sure that he doesn't hear her.

"Anyways, there are miles to go, it will take more than two hours for us to reach there, take some rest." He turned around to look at her, a warm smile on his features.

"Wanna have fun without me, River?" She asked, chuckling.

"Will not dare to. Really though, you look tired, get some sleep. You were yawning earlier in the café. I will wake you up if I miss you." And he found her looking at him with a wide smile.

"Yah whatever."

River turned around to look at the girl who sat on the passenger seat, next to him.

A deep chuckle escaped from his lips as he realised that she was snoring lightly, her mouth slightly open.

Even her snoring had the potential to melt him in seconds.

He shook his head, running a hand through his hair.

"You are killing me, you know that?." He whispered under his breath before shifting his gaze to the front and parking the car at the side.

Walking out, he made his way to the back seat and grabbed a tiny blanket from his bag.

He went up to the other side of the car and opening Faye's door, he wrapped the blanket around her, saving her from the biting wind.

When he was done, he turned around and, that is when he noticed the silence that was drifted in the surrounding.

They were in the middle of nowhere, not a single store was there except for a drug house in the farthest corner.

Sighing, he took out a cigarette from his pocket and light it.

He was nervous, scared.

Are they going to accept me?

Are they going to forgive me?

It has been two years since he last saw his mother, his sister. It has been two years since he last breathed freely.

No one knew, but he still beat himself out for the incident that occurred two years ago, he still blamed himself for everything that happened.

Memories started to consume him and for the first time, he let them blend with his thoughts.

"Come on, calm down, maybe Stace is sorry. You both are best friends, I mean, you always make it to the end. Along with that, you and I both know that Nick was a douçhe and-" Before he could complete what he was saying, Faye cut in.

"That does not mean that she will sleep around with every other guy that I date. It's, it's wrong. Along with that, even you left me, when are coming back once again?" He could almost feel the pout in her voice.

"Soon sunshine, soon. Come on, cheer up, go get some Ben and Jerry's cookie dough and get Kate and Leo, it will help." He said, a smirk making its way to his lips.

"I am not nine anymore, pig. Ugh, whatever. How is your mom? Is she happy with her new boyfriend?" Suddenly, her fucked up mood turned into a happy one and she sounded excited as ever.

"She is really happy. John is a nice guy, Faye. It feels so good to see her happy after such a long time." River said, grinning.

"I am glad." And as they were talking, River's mother came from the other side and snatched the phone out of his hands.

"Hi honey, it's your aunt Brenda here." And Faye laughed as soon as she heard her voice.

"Hello Aunt B, how are you doing?"

"Oh, marvelous child, marvelous. I am angry with you though, why did you not come here with River?"

"Mom, I was talking to her." River protested, making his mom playfully glare at him.

"Aunt B, please tell your son that I better talk with you then him." River heard Faye's voice.

"Hey, that's not fair." River shouted, his eyes narrowing in a playful manner.

"Hush, get out of here. John is waiting for you outside, go have some fun." Brenda pushed River to go outside as she talked with Faye.

Grumbling, he slowly walked out of there, a small smile visible in his features.

"So, young man, I need to get some things from the store, wanna go with me?" John asked, grinning.

"Yah, let's go." River shrugged, they both walking up to John's pick up truck.

And that's how by the end of the night, they both got drunk, losing their senses.

"Rivur le me druve the fucking car..." John shouted as they both left the pub.

"John, you are drunk. I cannot let you drive the car." By that time, River was becoming sober and getting a little aware of his surroundings.

"Oh shut up- I am finnneee." John slurred, River wrapping his arm around his shoulders as they walked up to the parking lot.

"But, I can't let you. Hell, it isn't safe." And that is when he punched River, making him stumble.

"Shut the fuck up, I am driving." John shouted, making River look at him with amusement.

He wasn't the John that he had met the other day, he was a whole different person.

"And bastard, you are not coming with me, understand?" He said, making River glare at him.

John left in his truck, leaving River behind.

The next day, the news flashed, saying that a bus fell from the hills.

The truck was John's.

"River, what are you doing here?" River turned around to see Faye standing there, rubbing her eyes, a look of tiredness in her face.

"Sunshine." He breathed out.

"What happened?" Faye walked up to him and cupping his face between her hands, she made him look at her, "Hey, are you alright?"

"I am scared."
