《The Golden Girl》15. When he cared

He was the one that healed her...

The one that made her scares look beautiful...

"You lost her, forever." His eyes didn't reflect anything, he was blank, dark. No one knew about the anger bubbling underneath. No one knew that he just wanted to grab Kyle's throat and choke him. That he wanted to beat the hell out of him.

How can Faye even like this guy, a guy who do not even respect her? Faye can have any guy in the world, and she wanted this dimwit.

His mind revolved around these words and he stormed out of the cafeteria followed by Aubree, Zach and Max.

"We are just going to the coach, gonna catch up with you both, later yah?" And mumbling that, Zach along with Max vanished in the swarm of teenagers, leaving Aubree and River alone.

Everyone was aware of the stiffening surrounding in the cafeteria and they knew that it was not a good time to talk about it. Somewhere they didn't know where to start.

"Ah... you are okay, right?" It was Aubree. She placed her hand in River's shoulder which made him turn around and look at her.

"I am okay. I... I just do not understand... Everyone knows how much... how much Faye likes Kyle. It... it is just written all over her face. Even a blind can tell how much she loves him. Then how can Kyle be such a... such a fool? He is just so unaware of things that are going around him." He said as both of them walked together.

"I know... he... he will have to be really vague to not know about it. Or maybe he does... maybe he does know that Faye loves him. Maybe he just do not care." "Not only that. Let's just not forget that now since Stacey Sky is here, things are going to be worse. I... I don't understand, why always does the worst happen to her? To such an angel like her. She never did bad to anyone. But still, her whole world is shattered." Aubree said, a sigh escaping from her lips.

"Kyle don't deserve her." That was the only thing that escaped from his mouth from time to time and somewhere Aubree happily agreed to it.

They were walking through the hallway to their lockers, when Aubree suddenly said, "I wanted to tell Faye everything, but... but looks like, my problems are going to make her situation worse."

"You are right. Maybe, you should wait for the right moment. Maybe when everyone cools down a little bit?" He nodded, leaning against the lockers as Aubree picked out the books.

"Yah, and this is new for me, it's different. I want to be ready when I face her."

"Speaking about that, how are you and Rihanna doing? I mean, is she ready to you know..." River trailed.

"Like I said, I am still figuring this out. But yah, she has been supportive, like really really supportive."

"Try not to keep Faye and Mads in dark for a long time. You know how it is, right? I mean, they are your friends, they will accept and love you just the way you are. They are always gonna support you." He said, a small smile appearing in his features.

"I know, River. But it's... you know it's hard, don't you? And maybe without you I might have never been able to figure out this things. Again, you don't know how much I am thankful for such a friend like you. Thanks for going through each and everything for me. Thanks for fighting with Faye. Thanks for just... I don't know, for keeping the façade." She said, honestly.

"I know, I know... I am amazing and everything."

"Don't push it." She said, rolling her eyes and hitting him in the arm.

And just as he was going to say something, the bell rang, making everyone return to their homeroom.

"Gonna meet you later Bree, have somethings to make up for." And bidding goodbyes to her, he walked through the hallways, searching for the one thing that mattered the most in his world at that moment.

He couldn't find her, he couldn't find her anywhere.

He looked for her in the classrooms, in the janitor closet, in the abandoned piano room, at the back of the building, he looked for her everywhere but... no, no she was nowhere to be find.

His heart was running faster and a kind of fear was lurching on his chest.

Where was she?

He called her thousand times, but it would always go to voicemail. He asked about her to each and every second person in the hallway. He was scared, scared of the aftermath.

And that is when it hit him, Justin, Justin was with her the last time. He will know where she is.

He ran through the hallway, looking for Justin. He will have to find him.

He asked people about him but everyone gave him the same response, they hadn't seen him.

He is with Faye.

River needs to see her, he needs to see her safe and sound.

And just as he was about to go out of the campus, a voice boomed, "Mr River Blake, what are you doing here instead of attending your class?"

It was the principal.

He greeted his teeth and turned around to look at him, "I was just..."

"Class... now."

************************************

He wasn't able to get out of the campus. He wasn't able to search for her.

His eyes snapped to his watch. It was 4 pm... He dailed her number once again, hoping that she would pick it up, answer him but... no...he was met with the same conclusion again.

She was not picking up.

He barged out of the classroom as soon as the final bell rang and ignoring the continuous calls from his friends, he ran towards the parking lot.

He needs to see her.

He walked inside his Lamborghini and instantly his phone rang. Assuming that its Faye, he picked it up, never glancing at the caller ID.

"I have been calling you from the last 3 hours and you don't even have the audacity to pick it up... " And before he could say something else, a laugh bursted out from the other line.

"Still couldn't connect to Faye, brother?" It was Max.

"Seriously Max, its not the time to play around. What do you want?" He asked, frustrated.

"We called her, she said she is fine, well, though I know she isn't, anyways, Aubree is with her right now, she said that you need to stop calling her, seriously mate, forty three miss calls, forty three..." And he laughed as River groaned.

"Shut up." He grumbled, a glare visible in his eyes.

She didn't pick up my calls.

And now he was evaporating, boiling. Pure anger was visible on his features. He cared so much for her and she, she didn't even care to pick up his phone calls.

"Whatever, man, whatever. Anyways... I am with Zach, in the cafè, you wanna drop by?" Max asked.

"Yah, am on my way." And instead of going towards Faye's mansion, he changed his mind and made his way to the cafè.

************************************

Her eyes snapped towards the wall clock from the book that she was reading.

It was 2 am.

A yawn escaped from her lips and she stood up from her desk, a set of comfy pyjamas lunging on her hips. She wrapped her hairs and pulled it into a messy bun.

She was bare, not a tint of makeup visible on her face. And yah, she looked beautiful, she looked damn beautiful.

Rubbing her eyes, she made her way towards the king sized bed, too unaware of the figure that had just jumped on her balcony.

Her eyelids began to close as soon as today's events flooded through her mind, the look on Kyle's face when he saw Stacy crying flooded through her mind. He loved her, even after all the shit that Faye got in just because of her, he loved her, with all her flaws.

She recalled her time with Justin in the city park. The place where they went after sneaking out of school.

It did help a little.

She felt happy for a second or two, but after coming home, her mind had been doing nothing but to remind her of Kyle.

He occupies most of her mind. It was funny, it really was. I mean the way she looks at him, loves him knowing that he will never like her back. That he will never look at her the way the way he looks at Stacey.

The tears finally started to fall, fall freely, making her break into sobs. She didn't try to wipe them, for the first time, she didn't try to hold it.

Suddenly, a knock in her door startled her. The glass door that lead to the balcony. She instantly got out of the bed, rubbing her now, puffy eyes.

And when she opened the door, a voice barked, "You didn't pick up the calls..."
