《Replacement Bride》Chapter 14 - Hamid

Amani amazed me the day we went for screening at Swizz Limited, she was apprised about the risks involved in signing the papers given to her but she signed them anyway.

Also, she wasn't bored at all throughout the whole thing. She stayed put by me and every time I looked at her I would only see smile on her face and not boredom.

She gave me all the support I needed and after the screening, we managed to book a hotel room nearby since we couldn't get a flight home that same day.

The room we booked was big enough to accommodate the two of us, it was the only room available actually.

After eating dinner and observing our prayers, I told her to sleep in the bed while I, on the other hand, laid on the sofa. That was how we slept but unfortunately for me, I woke up in the middle of the night so wet and stinking.

Not what you might probably be thinking exactly, it was a wet dream and in the dream I found myself making love with Amani. I didn't know how it started though but it ended the moment I released.

How I so much hated wet dreams, even though sometimes they used to give me hints on how orgasm works. I used to have them almost two to three times a month but with Rahmat Ali.

I never knew I would have such dreams with Amani before but that night at Pheonix Hotel, everything changed making me to question myself if I was already developing feelings for her or something.

Nevertheless, wet dreams are good for men like me that aren't sexually active. Legend has it that when the sperm in our body isn't dispensed for so long it could cause prostrate related issues, hence our body automatically expels it through wet dreams.

I checked the time and found out it was quarter past one, then I looked over to the bed where Amani was and saw her sleeping soundly while facing one side of the bed. We had never spent a night together before in the same room.

I stood and went to the bathroom to clean up. Alas, I didn't bring extra clothes with me so I washed all the stained spots and hanged the clothes on a strap to dry.

Thus, I tied one of the towels I found in the bathroom before heading out. Unknown to me, I looked funny in the towel but I didn't realize it until Amani giggled at me the moment she saw it on me in the morning.

She asked why I took my clothes off and wore the towel and I told her the truth, I had a wet dream. By the way, if I was to lie to her what would I have told her? That I urinated or what?

Hence she heaved a sigh and told me she used to hear a lot about wet dreams and that some clergymen used to say jinns were the ones sleeping with people, and sometimes one may have children with them in their world without knowing.

"Allah Ya kiyaye (God forbid)!" I squalled. "Mine is not, and shall never be Jinns!" I added.

"In Shaa Allah, Ya Hamid" She beamed.

My clothes were still not dry so I couldn't pray Fajr in time. And even when I waited till quarter to 7, I just had to were the clothes like that.

After praying we ate breakfast before heading to the airport. There used to be morning flights to Minna, and hopefully we were able to secure tickets for ourselves.

As we boarded the plane, we told one of the flight attendants our seat numbers and she took us to our respective seats humbly.

Amani was in my front while I happened to be in her back, but for some unknown reason I didn't like the idea of not sitting close to each other.

The guy she was sitting close to was a pervert and as the plane took off he picked a conversation with her. She tried to ignore him but he was so persistent.

Eventually, I drew his attention to me and told him I was her husband. Since then he didn't say anything to her anymore, he kept quiet throughout the short flight.

As soon as we landed I called Yazid to come and pick us up, he was happy to see us although he said Safiya treats him better when we are away. Just then Amani queried him as to what he meant by 'Safiya treated him better when we are away'.

He giggled and patted his stomach saying, "She feeds me things I've never been fed before. Trust me, her future husband is going to be so lucky!"

"Mtsww" Amani hissed.

...

As we advanced towards our area, Amani's phone began ringing. She quickly picked up and before I knew it she screamed and began chanting "Innalillahi wa inna'ilaihi raji'un"

In bewilderment, I asked what happened forgetting the fact that she was still on phone. After the call that lasted for some seconds, she turned to me with tears rolling down her cheeks that our grandmother had passed away.

That moment, I felt like the whole world was on my head the fact that the old woman was kinda healthy the last time we met. If only I knew that was the last time we would ever meet!

Amani quickly ordered Yazid to take us to our family house which he did, and upon our arrival we were welcomed by sad and teary faces. Amani ran and hug her mother as she sobbed.

Her father, however, held me and walked me to my parents. They were surrounding the lifeless body of the old woman together with other family members.

"Her last words was Shahada" Said my mother as she blinked away the tears in her eyes. "We were at home when Baba Sagir and Yaya Tanko called that she's sick but doesn't want to go to the hospital" She sniffed and continued. "But when we came, we found out the situation had worsened. The only thing she was saying was La ila ha ilallah. And then she's... she's gone"

"Mom, it's okay" I got hold of her and embraced her. I wasn't that emotionally strong but I wasn't weak either. "She's in a better place" I added.
