《the unwanted twin》chapter 7

They got home a little before dinner time which Emilia wasn't to find of, it meant she had to eat and be sociable but all she wanted to do was sleep.
She was still not used to doing so much and her body couldn't handle it. She forced herself to stay awake as she didn't want to fall asleep around them all, she would be too vunerable.
Mason and Matteo carried her bags upstairs, Emilia tried to carry them but Mason just took them off her.
Eventually she was finally alone, they had left her to unpack. She had so many clothes now, some she hadn't even seen and had no idea when Mason picked them up. She felt guilty for wasting all their money and fearful that Damon and Alessandro wouldn't be happy.
She expected them to come in calling her stupid for thinking they would give her new clothes. She shuddered at a memory that came to mind.
A young 10 year old had been left out in the cold. It was an odd sight. A woman across the street had noticed and took the child in. The child explained that her parents were sleeping and she didn't have a key. It was a lie. They threw her out. The woman fussed over her and gave her fresh clothes which belonged to her own child, she didn't have a spare bed so the girl slept on the sofa that night with a massive blanket and plenty of cushions.
She didn't want to leave next morning but after the woman insisted on her eating breakfast, she left. The woman had told her to keep her sons clothes, joggers and a tshirt and a hoodie as well as giving her back the clothes she had on before, this time they were freshly washed.
The girl shouldn't have kept the clothes because once back in the house, her stepfather practically ripped them off her, calling her vile names and punching her till her ribs broke. He specifically told her how she doesn't deserve new clothes and if she ever accepted thrm again he would burn them off her.
Emilia shuddered at the memory. Could this be another trap? She didn't want to get hurt. They were in prison, they couldn't do anything.
But Lexi could
That thought alone sickened her, she was terrified of her twin and what she would do.
She saw it was almost dinner time so instead of spiralling she washed her face to hide the fact she had almost cried and for comfort especially after the memory, she pulled out the hoodie. The woman's son had been about 13/14 but he had been tall. Emilia was only small and definitely didn't have the body of a 16 year old so the hoodie now fit fine, it was only slightly too big. It was a simple black hoodie, it was the only thing Henry didn't rip when he took the clothes off that day.
She had kept the hoodie all these years as it helped her remember not everyone was like her parents, that there was good people in the world.
She also liked to stick it to Henry. He never could remove the hoodie and she knew it pissed him off.
She went downstairs for dinner, very reluctantly, she wasn't hungry due to having a few chicken nuggets for lunch.
Thankfully the seating was back to how it was the first night, Emilia slowly and cautiously took a seat next to Matteo and across from Dante. Damon and Alessandro had yet to arrive.
"Can we not start without them" Matteo complained, he was starving.

"No because Damon called and said they would be here" Mason said with a tone that meant it wasn't up for debate.
A few minutes past and the door opened, in walked Allesandro with his son trailing behind.
Lexi hid her smirk as she got up to greet them.
"How was your day Damon" she asked first, knowing she needed him on her side the most.
"It was good thank you for asking. How was yours" Damon was a little taken back by her.
"It was great" Lexi said knowing she was convincing him. She turned to Alessandro "I hope your day was good too" she said and even went as far as giving him a quick hug, she released him before he could hug her back
"Yes thank you. How about we sit down and you can tell me all about your day" Alessandro said with a smile.
"Yes I agree, I look forward to hearing about it' Damon said giving Lexi a smile.
Lexi nodded, her plan was working. She would never consider Alessandro her father but to get him and Damon on her side she would need to play the perfect daughter and sister
Emilia couldn't help but look defeated, she really thought Damon could see through her ways and maybe she thought she wouldn't be hurt by him but he was falling into her trap, he would soon turn against her.
Everyone was suprised when Lexi apologized and thanked the maid. Emilia knew she was just trying to get out of her punishment, thankfully Damon didn't say anything.
Emilia reluctantly started eating not wanting any attention on her.
Lexi was taking all the attention mostly with her, Matteo, Mason and at times Alessandro all talking. Dante, Damon and Emilia didn't talk.
"Hey Emilia can you pass me the salt" Matteo asked, he did want to include her in the conversation but she wouldn't reply so they sort of left her. The salt had been next to Damon and he didn't dare ask him.
Emilia nodded and picked up the salt, she thought nothing off it but when she reached out to give it Matteo, a sharp pain hit her and she dropped the salt.
Everyone looked at her.
She wanted to apologize but she couldn't. The pain would be worse if she spoke.
Suprisingly no one yelled at her or insulted her. They all looked at her with worry except Lexi who looked at her with a strong hatred.
"What happened tesoro" Damon asked first.
Emilia and Lexi noticed the difference in Damon's tone when speaking to them both. With Lexi, Damon had a soft tone but it had an edge, it was more formal language too.
But when speaking to Emilia, his tone was gentle and he used nicknames.
"Is it your wrist" Dante asked, he was observant and noticed the quick look of pain when she dropped the salt.
Emilia nodded, knowing she wouldn't be able to hide it.
Damon was quick to react and pulled up her sleeve on the wrist she had the salt with.
His eyes instantly darkened when he saw the purple bruise on her wrist.
"What happened" he forced out.
"Just some guy hitting on her, wouldn't let her leave when she tried walking away" Dante summed up.
"Why were you not with her" Damon asked coldly.
"We was but she went to put something in the bin" Matteo said quickly.
Damon nodded, he wasn't happy that his tesero had been hurt under his brothers watch but he knew how vile guys could be.
"Very well"
Everyone was suprised by Damon's anwser, even more suprised when he started eating again. Damon may have started eating again but he was still deep in thought, thinking of ways to make those responsible pay.

Everyone took that at a sign go continue eating.
After dinner, Alessandro spoke "girls follow me to my office please"
Lexi nodded and happily stood, Emilia shakily stood which led to Damon standing up too. "I said girls Damon not girls+ Damon" Alessandro said.
Damon didn't say anything instead he slowly put his hand on Emilia's hand who for once didn't freak out, actually she calmed down significantly.
Alessandro saw this and nodded "very well, you may come"
They headed to his office, Emilia was terrified. She knew Damon held some sort of authority here, she saw how their father let him take charge in some situations. Being in a room with Lexi and the two men in charge around here was not comforting at all for Emilia.
"So girls I'll put this simple, you are starting school Monday so you will need to pick some options" Alessandro gave them both a sheet of paper with different classes on it.
"You will have by tommorow at breakfast to give it me back" Alessandro stated.
"That's fine, I'll finish it tonight" Lexi replied. Alessandro smiled at her then turned to Emilia, his smile dropped which Lexi couldn't help but smirk.
"She will get it done tonight too" Damon replied for Emilia who looked very uncomfortable under their fathers gaze.
He didn't blame her though, their father was very intimidating, when Damon was younger, their father only needed to look at him for him to crack. These days Damon had perfected their fathers gaze and improved it, changing it into his own signature deadly glare.
"Great. Now for rules" Alessandro replied.
Damon knew not to question his father's authority when he was showing his authority. He was confused as they agreed not to give the twins the rules until they saw what they truly were like.
The mention of Rules seemed to have Emilia looking back down at the floor, her hand no long in Damon's.
"Now these are just for school. Rule 1. You will respect your peers and teachers.
Rule 2. Keep up the work standard, if you have a bad day that is fine but I don't want you both going down in grades because you think you can. Rule 3. Any after school activities you start we must be made aware, Rule 4. If you go anywhere after school we must be made aware, you will be grounded if you don't follow this one. And if.you get a detention and we dont see the reason as a good enough reason then you will be grounded for a week. Do you both understand"
"I understand" Lexi replied sweetly.
Emilia only just managed a nod, she didn't want to break the rules with them. They would hurt more if they were to lash out.
"Great. If you break any rules, Damon and I will give out the consequences. If one of your other brothers tries, you don't do it, you come to us for it. I'd personally suggest coming to me" Alessandro continued, knowing Dante might try if the girls misbehaved.
"Why would you suggest yourself" Lexi asked, although she would definitely be going to him, she knew she could get away with things with Alessandro.
"Because Damon isn't as forgiving as I am. That being said, I will not tolerate any misbehaviour" Alessandro said.
Emilia shuddered, she had seen how cold Damon could be.
"Got it" Lexi said already planning on framing Emilia and making it so Damon was the one to deal with her.
It was perfect plan really, he clearly favoured her and after she misbehaves, he will punish her and favour herself rather than Emilia.
"Great. Lexi you are dismissed, go start on which classes to take" Alessandro dismissed.
Lexi nodded, thinking Emilia was already in trouble and she left.
Emilia was shaking badly when the door closed.
"Calm her down Damon" Alessandro spoke.
"You're her father, why don't you do it" Damon snapped back. He wanted Emilia not to fear their dad.
"Because she doesn't fear you as much" it hurt Alessandro to say but he knew he would only make her worse.
"We are here to talk about your communication at school" Damon explained.
"All the teachers have been made aware you can't speak so they will allow you to have your phone out or you will be given a white board to write on. At home you will use your phone to communicate with us from now on" Alessandro explained.
Emilia nodded.
"She doesn't have her phone with her I don't think" Damon said as he saw their father was waiting for more than just a nod.
Alessandro nodded.
He beckoned Emilia closer, she slowly did it. When she was next to him, he knelt down. It suprised Damon, their father wouldn't bow to no one.
"Now this is really important bambina, If anyone says anything you don't like, you tell us. If you feel like you can't tell us for some reason, tell one of your other brothers. We will deal with it. We need to know so we can help you" Alessandro said softly, it suprised Emilia, even Damon. He had more of a gentler tone then he did with Lexi.
Emilia nodded in response.
"Good. You may go now too"
Once Emilia left, Alessandro sighed and sat down. Damon also took a seat "do you think she will be ok with school" he asked knowing the other kids might pick on her.
"I hope so. If not I will just have to get their parents involved" Alessandro replied.
"Or I could...." Damon trialed off.
Alessandro rolled his eyes "you can't kill kids Damon"
Damon huffed with annoyance "fine" he wasn't happy being told he couldn't kill them. If they hurt his tesoro they were going to pay dearly.
"It seems she trusts you more than me, get her to open up" Alessandro hated saying that as he wanted to be the one to get her to open up. "You could do it yourself you know" Damon said.
"I know it's just she's less scared of you and I hate the terrified look she has" Alessandro said. He really did want to be the one she opens up to but she was afraid of him and he understood why.
"I'll talk to her" Damon said knowing his father only had her best interests at heart.
"There is one more thing before you go Damon" Alessandro said.
"What is it father"
"I was looking at the girls grades, Alexia mentioned that Emelia got a bad grade so her parents gave her extra chores but she refused to do them or something. But Emilia's grades are perfect, there is a few tests she has done poorly on but her overall grade is good. I don't understand why they would give her extra chores and stuff of she's just had a bad day" Alessandro explained.
"I'll look into it but father I do believe the girls are hiding something"
"Yes it was awfully odd with Lexi at dinner tonight" Alessandro agreed.
"Maybe she's up to something"
"I highly doubt that, she was most likely testing the waters, seeing what she can get away with. Her parents have just gone to prison so no doubt she wasn't used to the change. I really wish you didn't punish her now"
Damon rolled his eyes "I understand that father but she was rude and I'm not letting her behaviour be dismissed"
"Is there anything else father" Damon added.
"No you may be dismissed"
Damon nodded and left his father. He was heading towards Emilia's room when Lexi appeared "Damon can you help me. I'm struggling with my choices and the boys say you were the most academic"
Damon nodded, he knew he should make an effort with Lexi too. She no longer used that awful baby voice around him, it was just sickly sweet but he could cope with it. He couldn't just ignore Lexi, she was just as much his sister. "Sure let's go take a look"

Fallout: Vault X
An original novel set in the Fallout universe, written to be accessible to all, featuring unique people and places. Vol.II. out now Fallout: Vault X tells the story of John. A vault dweller, who spent every day of his twenty five years underground. Like his father, and his father before him. Proud to live in the last remaining bastion of humanity, all that survived The Great War of the atomic age. Hidden deep below the surface of the earth, toiling under brutal conditions. Year after year, decade upon decade. All to expand into the natural cave system the Vault occupied, building for the future. However, John knew what his forefathers did not, that everything he’d been taught was a lie. After finishing school at the age of ten, John received his standard issue pipboy. An arm mounted personal computer, worn by everyone in the Vault. Used to coordinate the relentless pace of expansion, needed to work as an apprentice. To learn the craft that would be his life’s work. A noble calling to ensure a future for all that remained of the human race. A quirk of fate saw John equipped not with the crude, clunky, pipboy model his father wore. That almost everyone around him wore. His looked smaller, sleeker, finished in a jet black sheen. And capable of doing far more than its drab counterparts. The world above had been ravaged by atomic flames, yet life clung to its bones. The Red Valley fared better than most in the century since the bombs fell. The clean water and rich soil protected by rolling hills. All spared from direct strikes, for the most part. Life survived here. Trees spawned from charred ground, misshapen, green leaves turned red. Along with simple crops, grown wild at first, then cultivated by the survivors. The scavengers of the old world were inventive, hardy people. All determined to rebuild in the ruins of a world they never knew. In the decades that passed settlements emerged. They grew, spreading along the valley floor. Reclaiming the pre-war remnants of the once industrialised heartland. Salvaging the robotic wonders of a bygone age to build their walls and work their fields. To protect them in the dark of the wasteland. But such things are uncommon in this world, and the rarer something is, the greater its value. And the worth of pre-war technology had not gone unnoticed. The last, real, power in this world rested in the mechanised hands of The Brotherhood of Steel. Forged from the mortally wounded old world military. The Brotherhood used its access to the weapons made for a conflict no one won to strike out into the wastes. Men and women were equipped with advanced armour, aerial transportation, high grade weaponry. Accompanied by the training, strength, and will, to put them to use. They established chapters and set up outputs far and wide. All dedicated to a single purpose. To ensure the technology left abandoned by its long dead creators didn’t fall into the wrong hands. Namely, any hands that were not their own. This is the world John escaped into. A place of horrors brought forth from atomic fire. A place where survival meant battling against the darkness. Fighting a war each day to get to the next. And war...war never changes
