《Azure Chronicles》Chapter 68: Festival Challenges and Hero Meeting

A few minutes earlier, Lola intently watched Charlotte as she swiftly sliced the purple bio-luminescent vines into neatly diced pieces.
“Woah,” Snow stuttered as she went to pick up one of the diced vines. Charlotte nervously watched Snow, as she picked up the diced vine and inspected it.
“Are you sure it’s safe to be touching the vines after they’ve been cut, Luna?” Charlotte asked as she sheathed her swords.
“Of course, I even used my F.B.A on the not diced and diced vines and they seem to lose their mana-absorbing capabilities,” Luna explained as she picked up one of the diced vines.
“But why does that happen?” Scarlett asked as she placed one of the diced vines in her mouth.
“That’s probably due to the combo of the vines being removed from their roots and being cut with dawnite leads to the mana-absorbing ability of the vines to be lost,” Heather explained as Ruby led Sophia towards the group.
“Heya gals… what’re you up to?” Ruby asked as she stopped by Luna.
"Well, we're helping the city guard deal with the vines," Luna explained as she handed Ruby one of the diced vines. Ruby inspected the vine before placing it in her and chewing it; Ruby methodically chewed the vine before swallowing it and sighing.
"Fifi, catch me," Ruby muttered as she leaned backwards and fell into Sophia's arms.
"Ruru?" Sophia worriedly said before slightly frowning when she saw Ruby's satisfiedly smug expression. Sophia pondered if she should just drop Ruby but decided it wasn't so bad carrying Ruby in her arms as Kiki waddled over to the duo.
"Do you not like seafood... well, sea-tasting food, Miss Ruby?" Kiki asked as she tugged on Ruby's hoodie.
"Nah I do like seafood, I just didn't expect a plant to taste like sashimi," Ruby explained before abruptly standing up straight.
"Oh, Kiki so since the Phantom's gone, could we continue Heroic Marbles?" Ruby requested before Kiki smugly pulled the green marble with the lime heart insignia inside of it, out of her pocket.
"That won't be necessary," Kiki stated as she presented the green marble to Ruby, making Ruby's eyes light up. Luna confusedly tilted her head as she looked at the marble; she was about to ask what the big deal was but Ruby quickly picked up Kiki and asked Sophia to teleport them back to Kiki's stand. Sophia sighed before she teleported herself, Ruby and Kiki away, leaving Luna in a confused/annoyed state with her hand raised.
"I'm pretty sure, the festival pamphlet said that in the Heroic Marbles stall there were six special marbles in the blindfolded challenge that are worth four sets," Heather mentioned as she ate some of the diced vines.
Lola rolled over to Minia and bounced onto Minia's hair before untucking from her tail ball.
"Sister Minia, where's Nola-sis?" Lola asked while she nibbled on some of the non-diced vines.
"She went with the Elizabeth person to the camp, but they'll probably be back soon..." Minia remarked as a portal opened next to her before Nola and Elizabeth came out from it; Vivo(in his small crow form) also flew out of the portal while carrying a small ten-headed(with the middle head being slightly bigger than the others) yellow hydra on his back and flew off as the portal closed behind him.

"See..." Minia added as Kusana flew over to Nola.
"Mother... Kusana pleads for money to buy this," Kusana pleaded as she presented a book, titled top fifty traps(for pranking purposes), to Nola. Nola sighed as she saw the eighty-five Valts price and had Kusana hand her the book. Nola quickly flicked through the book and was both intrigued, and slightly concerned at the intricacy of the book's traps.
"At least it's worth the price," Nola commented as Kusana led her over to the nearby book stand.
Meanwhile, Zalroth, Zalina and Zuno stood in front of a stand, with the stand next to it being full of Candy Cat plushies, and intently stared at a board: that read, what is unknown yet everyone knows what it is.
"Got any idea what the answer is?" Zalina asked as she strongly rubbed her forehead with her paws while thinking so hard her head turned red.
"No clue," Zalroth and Zuno said in unison, making Chronia disappointedly facepalm.
"If Vivo or Lino were here they would've solved it by now," Chronia remarked as the ten-headed hydra dropped onto her chest before Vivo landed on her shoulder shortly after.
"Heya, Chronia, I- a mena, Master Chronia," the hydra's head frantically blurted out as they kept interrupting each other.
"It's nice to see you too, Mimi," Chronia said as she looked over at Vivo, who gave Chronia a bow.
"Greetings, Madame Chronia, I hope the day finds you well," Vivo regally said as he continued to bow.
"I'm fine... oh and before I forget, could you help those three solve the puzzle before I lose it?" Chronia requested as she gestured towards the riddle sigh Zalroth, Zalina and Zuno were trying to solve. Vivo gave a bow before fluttering over to and landing on Zalroth's shoulder.
"Look like the riddle master's here," Zalina remarked as she rested her chin on Zalroth's head. Vivo glanced at the riddle for a split second before glancing over at Vivo.
"The answer is..." Vivo said before pausing and looking over at Zuno, who was intently staring at the riddle.
"Well?" Zalina asked as she patted Vivo on the head.
"I think it would be rude to get in the way of a husband trying to win a gift," Vivo stated as he sat down.
"You've only been here for a few seconds yet you already figured out why he wants the gift," Mimi remarked as she slithered on top of Chronia's head.
"True, and I'd be pretty mad too if you did that to me in a similar situation," Zalroth remarked as he nodded his head. Zalina perplexedly glanced down at Zalroth while scratching her head.
"But wouldn't him having the answer technically count as you having the answer?" Zalina asked while she stretched out her legs and large tails. Zalroth shrugged his shoulders as Zuno abruptly glanced upwards and looked over at the stall attendant.
"Is the answer, death on a silent night?" Zuno asked with the stall attendant happily nodding.
"That's correct, Lord Death," the attendant stated as she handed Zuno the Pink Tuxedo Cat plushie, stored in a glass case; everyone, excluding Vivo and Chronia, had perplexed expressions as Zuno stored the Pink Tuxedo Cat in his storage pocket bubble.

"So, it wasn't a riddle but a simple finish-the-sentence puzzle, who woulda thought," Chronia remarked half-heartedly.
Tokubaiyashi, with Kara on his back, flew through an open window and landed in front of the doors of the throne as Five appeared next to him while carrying Destiny on her back.
"Looks like it's a draw this time," Tokubaiyashi remarked as Kara climbed up his back and sat on his shoulders.
"How frustrating," Five commented as she pushed the doors open with Tokubaiyashi smugly grinning as he followed her into the throne room.
Five placed Destiny on her throne before teleporting between Destiny's and Providence's thrones and placing her hands behind her back. Providence rubbed his eyes while commenting his insomnia is getting worse before sitting up straight and making eye contact with Kara.
"Thank you for accepting the abrupt summons Kara, although I could guess you knew it would happen the moment I sent the magistrates, with your god powers," Providence stated as Kara quickly shook her head.
"Negative. One received a divination from your descendant," Kara explained, with Providence giving a firm head nod.
"I see so Destiny gave you a phone call...,". Kara gave another head shake.
"With the picture moving light construct,".
"So, she contacted you through the network from your video game systems... why didn't I think of that," Providence remarked. Fate gave a bored yawn as she continued to recline on her throne.
"Honey could you not dilly-dally and get to the point please," Fate pleaded as she poked Providence in the face.
"Fraid not, we won't be able to begin proceedings until Lumios gets here," Providence stated causing both Destiny and Fate to energetically jolt up.
"Wait big bro's actually back?!" Destiny excitedly exclaimed as she stood up on her throne and rapidly bounced on the spot. Fate leaned over to Providence while angrily glaring at him.
"And why wasn't I informed that Lumios had returned home?" Fate asked with an angered tone.
"If I may my lady, it's because the prince had made a detour on his way back to the palace; so he requested that his return not be announced until he had finished with his personal matters and he was sure his arrival was a day away," Five explained as the throne room doors opened and a tall figure wearing a golden thread cloak, with the space underneath appearing to be a pitch-black void, and golden goggles walked into the room.
"My-my, how nostalgic," Lumios(a young adult-looking male: he has spiky and woolly like a sheep, snow white and golden with two golden ahoges, fair skin, eight large and long(down to his knees) white mikuru tendrils with golden ends, and having glowing rainbow fingertips) remarked as he strolled towards the group. However, as Lumios was mid-step he suddenly appeared sitting on Destiny's throne while a smug Destiny sat proudly on his lap.
"My, it seems you've gotten better at using your powers in the few years I've been gone studying abroad," Lumios remarked as he ruffled Destiny's hair, the whole while Kara was staring daggers at Lumios.
"Although I have a few questions I'll put them aside for now," Providence stated before he stood up, getting Kara's attention.
"As all who are present know, come winter, the next azure moon will occur in two and a half months so I believe the time for the current incarnation of the Heavenly Heroes to head to the Ruination Alter to prevent the awakening of the-," Providence managed to say before he felt the intensity of Fate's death glare his the back of his head.
"You're not suggesting you're taking Destiny to the Aivikkra continent are you?" Fate aggressively asked with a disapproving tone. Providence sighed as he scratched the magic mark on his face.
"Unfortunately so, but if all the heroes can arrive before the azure moon rises then we can perform the ritual before the Heathens can escape," Providence explained but Fate's death stare didn't ease up in the slightest.
"But even in the event that the heathens do escape, I had Lumios return so he could accompany us and be Destiny's bodyguard," Providence added. Fate continued to glare at Providence before letting out a defeated sigh.
"Fine... I'm not some overprotective parent who'd sacrifice the world when their child could prevent the world from ending in the first place," Fate said as she rested her chin on her fist, while Providence gave her a thankful head nod.
"Now... I heard from Magistrate Calloukus that you weren't able to ascertain the Immortal Sage's location is that correct?" Providence asked. Kara gave an apologetic bow.
"Although that may be true she was able to figure out their at least heading toward the alter thing you mentioned, Emperor King Providence," Tokubaiyashi explained on Kara's behalf.
"Calloukus did mention that, so we don't have anything to worry about that," Providence said.
"But I am interested as to why Destiny's friend is so worked up over not being able to locate the sage's location," Lumios remarked. Destiny quickly stood up and whispered something into Lumios' ear.
"It's because she was able to a while ago but suddenly couldn't anymore," Destiny quietly explained.
"I see... I too would be annoyed if something like that happened to me," Lumios remarked as Lumios peered over at Providence.
"I presume we'll be heading out imminently or tomorrow?" Lumios asked seriously, with Providence giving a firm confirmative nod.
"Indeed, if we delay for even a second we could arrive too late and have a second Catastrophe of The Blue Night on our hands," Providence stated.
"So today then, huh? I suppose my return home will be short-lived then," Lumios remarked and as he stood up Destiny warped behind him and clung to his back.
"Onwards brother, mine and Kara's grand adventure begin today," Destiny proudly proclaimed with a big grin on her face.

Shadows in the Dawn Mist
[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] - Winner November 2020 When a young woman is lured back to her homeland for the opportunity of a life time, she must face old fears. But never would she think that facing up to her past would change everything. Is History written by the victors, or by someone or something else...? *** I started writing this a few years ago and eventually fell out of love with it. I never finished it and my newer books are being written in different writing style, and genre with a more planned process. I decided to revisit it for the writathon and found that it wasn't as hopeless as I'd come to think. Hopefully, I've improved as a writer since them so the consistency may vary. Its been good to revisit and analyse my writing which I feel used to have some clunky and obvious dialogue which I'm trying to fix. This will always be my first novel and I hope, with a little exposure, I may come to like it again. Thanks for reading!

Then look no further than the daily life of a cultivation judge. Yang Qing, is a young genius cultivator from a low-tier family whose only safe choice to get resources and hopefully lead an easy life led him to the courts of the Cultivation Order Society. Author’s disclaimer: Hey there this is my first novel so any criticism will be well taken though beware I’m a million-year-old monster who has cultivated the way of the sword to the peak. The daily life of a cultivation judge will be true to its name so it will be heavily on the slice of life lane with a bit of action here and there.Meaning we will see the life of Yang Qing when he clocks in and out. Hopefully, it will be one of those novels you read if you need to relax or are in a slacker mood like one of those otakus who listen to the noises of cicadas in the summer famously used in most animes. And it is in the slacker spirit that chapter release will be on Wednesday,Thursday and Friday. Sank yuuu Cover art by Conny Schneider on Unsplash
