《The Demon and the Beast》Chapter 30.

"Oh my God! Dale! I'm sorry, I'm so sorry!” I put my hand on his neck, which was still bleeding. Dale's eyes were half closed and the forest was drenched in his fear. Why the hell did I do that? And at that moment, I felt a dark presence in my mind slowly disappeared. Lazar… It had to be his fault. Damn it! A mournful groan came out of my throat. Dale groaned softly and tried to get up. I supported his back and carefully lifted him into a sitting position. Dale growled in irritation and I realized I was constantly mumbling, sorry, sorry, sorry. Tears welled up in my eyes, and every time I swallowed, I was in danger of vomiting.
"Damn... You're fucking strong for a pup…" Dale sighed and leaned against my chest.
"I’m sorry Dale, I didn't mean to…" I began, but Dale interrupted me with a disapproving grunt.
"I want to go home," he whispered softly, his warm breath tickling my chest. "Please…" He snuggled up to me and I gasped.
"O-okay, yeah, y-yeah. I'll take you home," I stammered. "Can you get up?" Dale’s answer was another grunt, and then he began to rise. I helped him as best as I could, then carefully let him go. He swayed on his feet a bit but stood. I ran for the backpack with his clothes and brought it to him. It wasn't until I handed him his shirt that I realized that we were both covered in his blood. The dark red liquid glistened in the moonlight. I licked my lips and my stomach heaved immediately. This time I couldn’t push it away. I turned around and threw up. It was all Dale’s blood. When I finally stopped and focused on the pool of red, I threw up again…

"Ugh..." I moaned in disgust and rose. A warm hand appeared on my back, and then the other offered me a water bottle. I gave him a grateful smile and rinsed my mouth before I drank. I tried to wash away the blood both from me and him as he sipped water. The wound on his neck had stopped bleeding, which was a good thing. I quickly threw on some sweatpants and a t-shirt that Dale had brought in his backpack. I didn't even bother with shoes. Then I picked up the backpack and took Dale home. I supported him on the way as he swayed. He looked like he would pass out any moment. Oh god… What have I done?
By the time we got to the house, Dale was practically asleep on his feet. I threw the backpack on the ground and helped Dale up the stairs. Rather I dragged him upstairs... I wasn't even sure how I managed to pull off the blankets and slowly lower him to the bed. He was practically a dead weight in my arms. I could probably thank the werewolf strength for that, even though I didn't feel the Beast right now. He was hiding somewhere deep in my soul and refused to climb out. If only I could hide from my problems like that… With a sigh, I collapsed beside Dale and rubbed my face in exhaustion. I almost killed him… I almost killed Dale! My chest suddenly felt too tight, I couldn’t seem to catch my breath and I could hear my blood rushing through my ears. I gasped and tears ran down my cheeks. I couldn't even wipe them away with how shaky my hands were.
"Hush… Andrew..." he whispered in my ear, and I gave something between a whimper and sob. "It's okay… I'm fine…" His hands wrapped around my torso and a soothing warm weight pressed against my side. I tried to stop the tears, in vain.

"I almost killed you!" I said.
"But you didn't. You stopped." His breath tickled my neck as he buried his face between my neck and shoulder. My breath finally calmed and my chest stopped trying to crush all my organs. A strange calm spilled over my body… I was finally able to focus. Dale had one hand on my chest and one leg slung between mine. Shit… If I didn't suddenly feel so dazed, I'd probably be very uncomfortable. Right now though I was just happy I could feel his warm living body against me.
"It's not your fault, Lazar is to blame. He wants you for himself, and I’m destroying his plans.” He laughed softly. "Fuck how I hate him…” he growled.
"We'll kill him... I promise..." I muttered, still feeling a bit dazed.
"I have no doubt about that... but at what cost?" His breath evened as he fell asleep. As I lay there next to him the feeling of inner peace suddenly started to fade away. Um… Shit. What now? I tried to move, but Dale held me tight.
"Uh… Dale?" I tried, but he was dead asleep. Well, if my punishment for almost killing him was one night in his arms, I would survive. I had no right to wake him, so for a good few hours, I just stared at the ceiling and thought about how the hell I got into this situation. I fell asleep only as the first rays of sunlight penetrated the window.

Dungeon Core Chat Room.
This is a slower-paced "experiment and dungeon building" web novel that tries to use the idea of peer-to-peer communication with Dungeon Cores instead of Dungeon to slave monster communication to break up the detailed dungeon building. Rank 1 description: (minimum met for system initialization...detailed description as follows) Each race was given a system by the gods to make up for their shortcomings and balance their place in this world. Humans: Abysmally bad at understanding and using magic unable to use more than the lowest of magic were given the "Skill System" magic in the form of premade skills with use, study, and mastery tied to experience. Elves: Intuitively understand magic and have long lives leading to vast knowledge and skill in their chosen fields. However, as a species, they have nearly zero sex drive and less than low fertility, so they were gifted the "World Tree System" with experience gained through the care of natural areas – gifting the chance of children to increase their numbers without dirty copulation. All “natural” or “wild” monsters are given an "Evolution system" designed around killing and consuming as many creatures as possible, slowly increasing strength and, at thresholds, allowing mutations to alter them multiple times. Dungeon cores are different. Unlike humans, they can see, manipulate and live off mana. Unlike Elves, they naturally crystallize after extended periods of time in high mana level areas. However, they cannot easily move or communicate and typically go insane without companionship. As a species other than the odd eccentric they are unimaginative. Brute forcing solutions without the drive to truly innovate. Thus they have been gifted with the "Dungeon Connection System" a magical version of the internet accessible by their peers that allows them to barter and sell: bait, traps, monsters, and knowledge, as well as entertain each other with “adventure streams” using exciting recorded battles and humorous reels of arrogant chumps biting off more than they can chew to often fatal effects. This is the casual story of a dungeon unluckily spawned far from potential adventurers forced to innovate beyond its peers to find its place in this world. Rank 2 Description: Justification. I've been on a dungeon core kick for months and while I love the genre – it's sparse with entries. Often the forced conflict gets repetitive and frantic solving of threats "power levels" the protagonist to god levels to progress the plot – taking away the nice steady progression fantasy I'm looking for. (Progression in this story is linked to how strong of monsters/traps/whatever he can create not his "level"...this is demonstrated by some of his newer monsters beating his older monsters not with discrete "this monster has 10 attack this one has 40") Additionally, the focus on 3rd parties with their drama takes away from the reason I’m reading dungeon core novels in the first place – I'm looking for magical crafting, experimentation and kingdom building – not defence from higher and higher levelled enemies looking to steal/destroy/control the MC. This novel is kind of just me writing the story I wish I could read. I like thinking about the experimentation that can be done in fantasy settings using 'mana' as an excuse to make up rules and try to keep them internally consistent. IE once I define how a rule works, I'm going to commit to keeping it – no breaking hard truths I've given when it's convenient, even if it backs me into a corner. Hopefully, that should make the story interesting to read even if it's SOL and less action-oriented. There will be problems to solve and a clear progression in strength (of created monsters and knowledge) however due to not wanting to force conflict for the sake of conflict the general theme will be closer to slice of life with few action sequences and no overarching goal so please keep that in mind when picking this up as the genre is not for everyone. Finally, I have a clear goal of what I want from this story (not an endless romp but a series of arcs and then a conclusion that's a couple of dozen medium-sized chapters long) I want to commit to finishing it or at least bringing it to a point of rest. I hate all the engaging stories that stop with a “hiatus” indefinitely so in the event I lose motivation I'll work to end this even if the ending becomes rushed/unsatisfying just to give a sense of closure. I’m planning on including several polls in terms of direction and taking feedback heavily into account if I get enough readers (but may choose to ignore it if it deviates too far from the direction I want to take this as in feedback like: “The MC needs a cartoonishly evil arch-enemy that wants to enslave him and force the mc to pump out magic items” or “the MC needs to make a body and learn teleportation then live with humans” will get shot down without consideration.)

"I don't know who you think you are coming here, and acting like you don't care about anything. Now listen here Princess, because I'm not going to repeat myself. Here's a couple of rules that I'd like to enlighten upon you. Number one, you do not talk back to me. And two, you don't mess with me or the rules," his breath fans my face and I close my eyes. The proximity between us was terrifying. "I've dealt with many bitches like you, so I suggest that you follow those rules unless you want to end up like them," - he leans in. His mouth lingers near my ear, "used."... "... You might think that you run this place, but you do not run me. Understand? And the sooner you understand that, the better it'll be for the both of us," I warn staring right into his eyes before walking away. I was more than amused by his dumbfounded expression. I stop, and turn back around, facing him, "And one piece of advice, know what you're fishing for before you start fishing.
