"...and they're out!"
There were relieved sighs all around.
"All right, we should be able to get a longer break this time."
"I certainly hope so! You already owe me for overtime."
"Hey, at least it was fun overtime! Far better than working back at the old office, right? We have reasonable working hours and great food!"
There was some muttered grumblings, but none voiced any dissent.
"What's next, then? They've both grown out of the area. I suppose they will want to explore more places after this break."
"The girl mentioned 'adventurers', so I was thinking of using the town as a base. Make a pseudo Adventurer's guild or something. That should make them want to stay longer too."
"They're both minors, so they can't stay that long anyway. And we don't have the budget for large scale projects. The building is one thing, but how about the guild staff?"
"We can be the staff! And I'll just ask some friends along to act as adventurers."
There was a short silence.
"Pfft! You're kidding, right? Please tell me you're kidding?"
"Plus there's always illusion magic to settle appearances."
"Why's that your answer for everything! The Illusion department is overworked as it is! At least give us a pay raise or something."
"Then get the Conjuration department to chip in too!"
"Did you just ignore my comment about the pay raise?"
"We could send them on quests and stuff; it'll be just like those Isekai novels you always rant about."
"There's already the Mercenary Guild for those."
"Exactly, so they won't feel out of place once they go into the actual thing."
"Won't they feel upset with us once they find out?"
"About what? They won't be able to tell the difference. Besides, HR will settle any problems they have, don't worry."

"And to think your player managed to level up faster than mine with such a lazy handler."
"I think the total hands-off approach worked quite well. And actually I just didn't want to work with Feyril. You know how that guy is. Plus his smile is creepy. Good thing the girl wasn't scared off."
"Hey! He's trying his best too! He's just not used to doing stuff like that."
"Yeah, yeah, we all know about you and your elf fetish. Let's not have any more weird races in the town, all right?"
"That's discrimination! Besides, how can you not have beastfolk or elves in a fantasy world?"
"You're just setting them up for disappointment. The less frills, the better, I say."
"Whatever... You're the boss, I guess."
"That reminds me, I was thinking of trying something else, since my idea worked so well. Hmm... Let me contact the portal department for their input."
"Uh oh, I have a bad feeling about this..."

The Polyglot's Rune
Fear. Regret. Memories. They all flashed before my eyes as my life began to fade away. I felt a darkness encroach upon my heart followed by a sinister foreboding. Within that moment I was asked a single question by a powerful, mystical being. “Brave being, do you wish to accomplish a great deed in your life?” “No,” I refused, but the voice did not listen. It summoned me to its world only to try to have me slaughtered. But then, I was saved by him, the princess who disguised herself as a man. He was hellbent on revenge, and he was determined to drag me down with him. This story is meant to be a bit of a mix of genres and cultures, so there are some elements that may seem xianxia like, but it's not exactly the same so I didn't tag it. It also has multiple lead characters but is written in first person. Schedule: Dropped Normal Chapter Length: approximately 3000 words Warning: Tagged [15+] for Strong Language and Violence (Gore and Profanity aren't very prevalent, but I added the warning tags just in case).
