《Stone Cold》Epilogue 1: A Witch's Awakening

A series of cynical chuckles ringing in his ears were the sole focus of his undivided attention; he seemed to have lost hold of all his other senses. With his vampire part being the dominant one all his existence, relying on his unnaturally heightened senses was the only thing he had known all his life. He had to depend on his animal instincts to get through the dangers lurking in every other corner of his life, but the current situation he was trapped inside rendered him unable to get help from his vampire counter part. Having no way of assessing his surroundings, he was trapped in a dark abyss. It was a living nightmare.

Soon the taunting laughter turned into a wild coughing fit making him more alert. He had a feeling where this was going.

Soon the similar vision started playing before his eyes, same as the one he had been suffering from since that Godforsaken night.

'No matter how many times I go through this, it never gets easier.'

Slowly a hunched figure appeared in the middle of his pitch black vision.

Instead of crying, screaming and apologizing like he used to do, Felix stood his place firmly while clenching his hands by his side. He knew there was no point in reacting too emotionally. All of this was just a figment of his imagination. His witch’s awakening had overwhelmed his nerves, making him relive the same trauma again and again. This awakening wanted to use his trauma against him. It wanted him to turn cold and cynical, just like the newly found power that was flowing deep inside his veins.

At times, he felt like a completely person with no control over his emotions. He was aware that dark witches were notorious for being irrational and obsessive creatures and that is exactly what the awakening was trying to achieve. The magic swirling inside of him was trying to consume his original identity, remold it into a power addictive warlock. He felt like as if his brain had been divided into two halves and this newly discovered portion was the one in control now.

His frowning gaze was trained on the hunched person dragging its feet towards him while holding something in its right hand.

The shadows cast on the figure’s face lifted as soon as he said this, revealing a mutilated Cyrus holding out his cold dead heart towards an impassive Felix.

He took in a sharp intake of breath as soon as the trance he was in shattered. Once again, he was having visions of Cyrus’ death. The first time he started experiencing these visions, the sight of his dead father had shaken him to his core.

If he had been weak, he would have started hyperventilating on the spot instead he only blinked twice while casting a quick glance on his surroundings to ensure that he was back in the familiar alley.

Things had changed. He was a witch now, an awakened witch.

Living in Romania had become unbearable after what had happened back there. It was his decision to disappear from his clan’s eyes forever. Therefore, along with Antonio, he was constantly switching places trying to find a quitter place to settle into for some time, at least until he got his witch side in his control.

‘I thought shifting to a new environment would help me.’

Letting out a light puff of air, he buried his hands back into the pockets of his black hoodie as he started strolling back towards the place he was currently staying in.

It was hard for him to blend in with the humans. His unnaturally pale features along with his silver hair and teal eyes stood out too much in a crowd, so in an effort to conceal himself from the prying eyes, he only went outside at night, clad in simple black attire with a hood draped over his head to avoid unnecessary attention.

Occasionally, he wore a mask as well to better aid him in his mission, today being one of those days.

“Stop right there, you little bitch!”

The shrill cry was followed by violent scrambling of feet. It sounded like someone was being chased by two other people.

“You fucking thief!”

He was about to turn the corner as he stopped in his track, avoiding bumping into the lean guy sprinting past him.

Not long after the lean guy had passed him, a pair of young girls also ran past the stoic wizard.

“Shit! Which way did he go?”

The heaving girls were talking amongst themselves. Trying to remain out of their sight, the hybrid had started walking past them when he heard a feminine voice addressing him from behind,

“Hey, excuse me. Did you see the direction in which that weird looking guy took?”

That voice, it was unlike anything he had heard in his life. The sweet yet firm tone had tugged on the strings of a heart he didn’t even know he possessed.

‘Why is my heart beating so fast?’

The compelling need to turn around abruptly upon hearing that voice was undeniably hard for him to bear.

“Hey?”

He was standing in a dark corner and due to his dark attire, he was sure she couldn’t see much of him.

Reluctantly the hybrid turned around to face her, his eyes slowly taking in the appearance of the girl who had called out to him. She was wearing baggy jeans paired with a white tank top that was hugging her frame like a second skin. Her blond hair, previously tied in a loose bun had come cascading down her shoulders in a messy way, probably due to how fast she had ran behind that thief.

“Ahem.”

The small cough broke his chain of thoughts as he blinked back only to find her big blue eyes staring at him impatiently.

“Can you please answer that fast?

After the incident with Henry, he had taught himself to never interfere in the lives of humans. It had never ended well with him.

“I don’t know.”

He watched as upon hearing his reply her eyes started brimming with tears but something told him these were not tears of sadness. She was crying because she felt frustrated and helpless. She was angry.

“What am I going to do now? I worked all summer for that.”

The brunette, gripped the blonde’s hand firmly as she tried reassuring her with comforting words,

“Look at me, Delilah. Everything is going to be fine. We will report it and you will get your money back.”

He watched silently as the brunette kept uttering empty words in an attempt to calm her friend down.

By the way she was talking, he could that both of them were already aware of the severity of the situation. Nothing could be done now. Delilah’s money was gone.

Something was twisting and turning inside of him. It was a new sensation, something that he had never experienced before.

His eyes widened as he realized what was happening; his witch part had taken a liking to her.

‘Stay away from her!’

As both friends started trudging away from him, he couldn’t help staring at Delilah’s back.

“Lilah.”

He wanted to call her Lilah. She truly was a beauty of the night in every possible way.

‘What is happening to me?’

As soon as the girl disappeared from his view, a deep frown settled on his face as he realized this was the second time he was experiencing these symptoms for a woman.

It was the call of a beloved.

‘But my beloved… how?’

Suddenly the thought of generating a second chance beloved through the use of magic flashed inside his head making him eyebrows furrow even more.

‘I need to be close to her to sense whether it is truly magic or not.’

He did not know how he felt in that moment. He was neither happy nor upset. He felt empty. His witch part, on the other hand, seemed drunk on this newfound information. Witches did not have mates, not like vampires. This concept of having a pure soul bound to his dark side was exciting the warlock inside of him to no end.

As he looked back to the spot where Delilah had been standing previously, the picture of her tear filled gaze filled his mind once again making him let out a small sigh.

He knew he was going to regret it, interfering in the lives of humans.

“Tsk.”

Clicking his tongue in annoyance, he slowly started walking in the direction he knew the thief had taken.

The next day, Delilah Averey Edwards had found her stolen purse neatly placed on the floor outside her apartment door. Along with it, rested a lone white moonflower on top.
