XG 76 - Sorry, we don’t loan out our weapons

It was actually difficult to keep track of who were her own people and who were the zombies, especially when the zombies’ weakness was their heart. It was their faces that easily identified if they were zombies or not, but alas, if she used that method to identify them, she might make a mistake by stabbing their ugly heads instead of their hearts.

The little trick she had unconsciously learned during the fight in the shopping mall… had actually been forgotten. But even as she said that, that feeling was gradually coming back to her.

Keeping their mouths shut, they had all fought silently to avoid attracting more zombies into their current third shop lot. Taking the opportunity to take a short break before breaking into the second lot, Kang Xunsu also used that time to help L.L. climbed up onto a wooden shelf.

Unfortunately, the shop was not a double story and L.L.’s skill as a sniper could not be used well. The second best thing was to find the highest spot in the shop, which was the shelves, even if they were still not tall enough but that will have to do. Luckily, the shelves were thick and designed to be sturdy, designed in preparation for an earthquake that might happen, so they were nailed to the floor.

It will not be overly dangerous when L.L. moved from shelves to shelves.

“Can I climb onto a shelf too?” Kim Sung-Ho raised his head to look up to ask L.L.

“Are you a good jumper?” L.L. asked. During his free time, Kim Sung-Ho ran over to ask him to teach him. That kid has a decent talent in shooting, so L.L. does not mind training him. With his enthusiasm and need to learn well, his performance was considered impressive for his age.

“I think I can do it.”

“... I think it will still be safer for you to grab a ladder along with you. You can climb horizontally.”

Kim Sung-Ho was still a growing boy and the length of his legs would not be enough to cross between shelves if he was a poor jumper. It would be bad if he falls and with his muted pain receptor, he would not realize until he saw signs of broken limbs.

“He can just stay on the ground to shoot,” Wong Xue Guo could not help but point out at the group of serious-looking men. That way, Kim Sung-Ho would not need to risk falling and breaking something, right?

“No, he can shoot more from the top view. There are too many things blocking him from seeing in the wide view from the ground.,” L.L. was the first to shoot down the idea. It would also cover him if he does not have enough time to get the zombie that manages to catch those on the ground off guard.

“It’s dangerous to leave him behind with no one backing him.” Kang Xunsu was worried that Kim Sung-Ho would fail to guard his own back.

“L.L. can protect him if he’s in danger,” Chen Yibo quipped.

Wong Xue Guo surrendered and let them do what they wanted. It also helped her feel a little safe that there were two snipers helping to keep an eye on the enemies for them.

To their advantage, the owner had torn down the walls between the lots, allowing L.L. and Kim Sung-Ho to move around without obstacles.

After helping Kim Sung-Ho climb up onto a shelf right beside the shelf L.L. picked to be his spot, Kang Xunsu and Chen Yibo raised the ladder for Kim Sung-Ho. It was fortunate that the shopkeeper arranged each shelf in the same column, which made it easier for the snipers to move.

L.L. nodded at the boy half his age. “I will leave my back to you.”

Feeling valued, Kim Sung-Ho let out the brightest grin he ever had since his parents’ death.

“You guys are fucking nuts,” Kang Hansik murmured as he watched the two people that had climbed on top of the shelves.

“They are snipers,” Oh Junghan told him from what he managed to learn from the snippets of conversation.

“Tsk, did they think guns are so good?” But after he said that with a sneer, he approached Kang Xunsu and pointed at the gun still strapped in a holster on Kang Xunsu. “Don’t you have an extra gun? Give it to me.”

Oh Junghan smiled as he translated rather carefully from Kang Hansik’s words. “We only have a baseball bat. Guns are much more useful to deal with those monsters. Can you lend some for us to use?”

Kang Xunsu sneered. “Sorry, we don’t loan out our weapons.”

Wong Xue Guo, who remembered that Kang Xunsu had given Do Yerim a knife, thought ‘You don’t look sorry at all.’

Despite thinking so, she agreed with Kang Xunsu. They were strangers, how can they lend out weapons so easily? What if they run away with their guns? They will be at loss instead!

“Excuse… Excuse me, can- can I be at the back?” Man Jeong asked Chen Yibo.

“Are you not afraid of a zombie attacking you from the back?” Chen Yibo blurted out.

He felt a little remorse at his blunt words when Man Jeong’s face became a shade paler. To his surprise, the timid guy then shook his head.

“I will be fine. With everyone in front fighting… I… I will be fine. Sorry, but I can’t fight well…”

“If you are alright with it, you can stay at the back,” Chen Yibo reassured before Man Jeong would suddenly break down emotionally, which was not the right time at all.

“Thank you!” Man Jeong’s complexion became better.

Chen Yibo felt a little pressured by Man Jeong’s bright expression. Does he really think he will survive as long as he stays way back? If he was really afraid, he should have stayed back in the room, but who knows if it was because his group members joined the fight, he forced himself to go along too.

With the line-up changed, there exists another question.

At loss, Chen Yibo does not know whether he should place Wong Xue Guo in front of him or behind him. He has no confidence in Man Jeong’s ability to protect himself if a zombie did appear from the back, and would most likely get Wong Xue Guo involved in it.

“What are you doing?” Wong Xue Guo frowned when Kang Xunsu and others had already started moving but Chen Yibo was still thinking over something.

“Man Jeong wants to be the last of the line, so I’m thinking about our position.”

She does not understand what was there to think about so much. “No need to think, you will go first. I will be behind you. Quick! They are already starting!”

Since it was hastily decided, Chen Yibo could only listen to it since it would be silly to not help out and choose to argue about who will stand in front.

Man Jeong clenched onto his baseball with shaky hands and his tightly pressed lips echoed the tension. But his eyes that were half hidden with his lowered head do not show fear or worry, but hunger and ecstasy.

His hunger could hardly be contained, and he pressed his lips tighter to avoid any drool leaking out. Yet he did not move away from the source of the refreshingly delicious smell.

It had been three days since he last ate a human, barely satisfying his craving. He could tolerate the itchy desire, pretending to be a sheep to avoid suspicion, but it lasted until he encountered Yuna and Wong Xue Guo.

Suddenly, the old human meat that he had eaten to cushion his craving tasted even more like dirt when he saw the young, soft girls before his eyes. The young boy also looked tender, but his appetite was whetted by the two girls instead.

The two girls were both around the same age, yet gave off a different feeling of appetizing.

Although he could not see her face, Wong Xue Guo’s scent was similar to those of young girls he had eaten, but she smells more refreshing and fragrant. It must be her clean appearance that held more appeal to him. Just smelling her alone allows him to envision how juicy and fresh her meat will be once he sinks his teeth onto her.

It will be a meal that will renew his vitality and to be remembered for a long time.

As for skinny Yuna, she smelled completely different from the flesh he had tasted before. His tongue and heart told him as long as he eats her, it will be a completely new experience!

A very rare dish that appears once in a year!

Man Jeong was in a dilemma, debating whether to eat Yuna or Wong Xue Guo first. His choice was decided when Wong Xue Guo joined the killing team. It will be easier to start from her when things become chaotic…

...and when she gets separated from the others with only him at his side, he will get the chance to taste her slowly.

Everyone could only accept that Wong Xue Guo was ‘accidentally’ killed from the hoard of zombies and would definitely tell him not to feel guilty for being alive.

It was a lame idea, yet always worked. Even if they suspected him, there was no proof and they could not simply accuse a ‘timid’ guy as the cause of her death.
