XG 74 - Truce or die? Choose one
"There's no more food in the store," Chen Yibo revealed, hoping it would chase them away.
"Hah! Do you think because you say there's no more food, I have to believe it? Pah!” The jersey guy spatted like a street thug and sneered, “Unless I see it with my own eyes, your words mean nothing!"
The jersey guy was an action type of guy. It was understandable if his lackey was the same type as him.
Except for the slick-looking office worker and the cowardly guy, the rest moved forward aggressively with no intention to continue the talk. They were clearly thinking about going against bullets with their metal baseball bat.
Wong Xue Guo that was seeing everything from the window thought, ‘Are they fucking lunatic?!’
She was pretty sure bullets travel faster than the swing of a baseball bat! Plus, do they think they could move so quickly like Flash superhero or dodge those bullets like Keanu Reeves in the Matrix?
She, Wong Xue Guo, was younger in age and experience, but still, she was not as fearless and reckless as them!
Chen Yibo put away his gun and pulled out his sword, clearly having the mind to avoid making loud noises to attract trouble. But his action stirred the gang’s fighting spirit, where that crazy jersey-wearing thug let out a loud fighting cry, along with an exaggerated jumping motion and smashing down the bat at the target from the top.
Fortunately, Chen Yibo did not entertain that fella and dodged, slipping between the jersey guy's unguarded form to slice his hands.
Wong Xue Guo had no time to praise Chen Yibo and flinch with eyes wide when the jersey guy let out a loud screech in pain before dropping the baseball bat to baby his wound.
Her eyes flared with the blaze as her mind urged, 'Chen Yibo! Shut the idiot's mouth!'
While Chen Yibo chose not to use his gun, that was not the case for Kang Xunsu. However, the method he used to keep the volume down was quite intimidating.
Kang Xunsu skillfully ripped off a guy's thick jacket and used it to wrap around his gun. Treating it as a poor substitute for a silencer, he shot the owner of the jacket's shoulder and they had another screamer.

By now, Wong Xue Guo does not know whether to look at the fight or to look out for any incoming zombies. L.L was clearly confident of his partner because his attention was on the surroundings. Influenced by his composure, she also followed along, trailing her eyes around the street.
Thus, she missed out on seeing what caused the brawl to stop, which also brought more trouble to them. Her mind blanked out when the sound of the car alarm smashed into her eardrum. It was soon accompanied by curses in the Korean language.
Someone had either accidentally or purposely knocked onto the car, strong enough to trigger the alarm.
Which fucking idiot is it?! (#`Д´)
All of them knew what would happen soon. They frantically ran into any store closest to them to hide, no longer caring about fighting.
If they still want to fight, they must be crazy!
The jersey guy, who was no longer babying his injury, ran to their mini-market to hide, followed by the office worker and the cowardly guy. Kang Xunsu really wanted to kick these troublemakers out, but doing so would just let zombies outside to know they can find fresh meat inside the shop if these bastards make a ruckus right outside their hideout.
Not that the mini-market still has an intact door anyway.
"How to stop that bloody alarm?" Wong Xue Guo asked angrily as Kim Sung-Ho, who had heard the commotion, immediately ran towards them.
"Too late." L.L. had spotted some zombies running towards the noise.
"Close the door!"
They did their best to shove empty cupboards and racks to block the entrance but the broken windows needed something to block them.
"Kids, get others and hide in a room," Kang Xunsu ordered.
Knowing it was wise advice, they picked the cleaner room, which was also where Yuna's father was, to hide. Lee Su-Hwa covered her mouth when she recognized the corpse on the bed. She pulled Yuna to a side, who had not yet recognized it was her father on the bed.
"Can you… cover the body?" Lee Su-Hwa requested.
Kim Sung-Ho pulled the quilt and covered it over Ji-Hyun’s body. Do Eunhyuk and Lee Su-Hwa bowed at the body, giving their last respect to the deceased.

Kang Xunsu pointed the gun at the jersey guy. "Truce or die? Choose one."
The jersey guy looked at Chen Yibo who translated the words to Korean. It was then he knew Kang Xunsu was a foreigner and had also spotted the blonde guy at the corner of the room. Although he looked down on foreigners, that does not mean he does not fear them.
He had heard foreigners were violent people and would kill if you piss them off. With the current situation, it would be better to stop fighting. The jersey guy nodded jerkily and raised his hands, and only put down his hands after Kang Xunsu placed his gun away.
Wong Xue Guo thought in relief, ‘Thank goodness this idiot is finally enlightened.’
From the movies and books, the norm of the survivors consists of sly people, cults, soldiers or special agents, backstabbers, or lucky civilians. And they must have a kid with them to fulfill the ‘variety of survivor’ condition to make the show interesting.
Coincidentally, their group hit most of the criteria, which means they will have a hard time accepting a person being their leader when they have different opinions from others.
In the movies, they did not zoom into details when it comes to the background of those cameo thugs, unknown if they are from a proper mafia or gangster organization, or just street thugs bullying students for pocket money. In Wong Xue Guo’s opinion, mafias or gangsters have better survival chances than normal people that were not suddenly injected with ‘protecting the family’ hormone.
Gangsters or mafias were more prone to violence and were braver than those with desk jobs or peaceful living people. They were also used to weapons and more agile in their movement when it comes to beating up people. Survival instinct and escaping were almost a skill set they need to have when fighting with their rivals.
But do ignore those silly groups of people in the movies that had a hard time adjusting to the fact those rabies humans were instinctive monsters. They went as far as trying to use the zombies as their chained dog, which was nothing but a suicidal move. Just like how the movies portrayed, they died because they thought they could control the danger.
From the looks of it, the jersey guy was likely to be one of the silly people, but not as silly to challenge Kang Xunsu’s authority, fortunately.
"Kang Hansik." The jersey guy's surname was coincidentally the same as Kang Xunsu, who was not pleased with it.
"Oh Junghan." The slick-looking office worker straightens his originally white collared shirt under his winter jacket, black pants, and shoes that no longer shine from the abuse.
"... Man Jeong." The cowardly guy was imitating a turtle, trying to hide his head into his turtleneck jumper.
"Are you from a shelter?"
Kang Hansik does not want to answer, but that was not the case for Oh Junghan who was looking for an opportunity to gain their favorability.
"Our shelter is at Bright Highschool. We have the most survivors in our shelter, and everyone is united to go out and search for supplies in rotation. Today is our turn."
"Just as we said earlier, the food in this place was completely eaten by us. You should search elsewhere," Chen Yibo said.
Kang Hansik snorted but still had the mind not to retort. Especially when they could hear zombies getting inside the store. As long as they remain silent, they will not be discovered. Do Eunhyuk’s bloody scent was, fortunately, able to be covered during the winter but for safety, they stuffed him at the farthest corner of the room and sprayed him with perfume from the table.
Wong Xue Guo quietly sighed. The trio will be difficult to come back. She was afraid they would do something crazy to get in and then all of them would be stuck in here. With a glance at Do Eunhyuk, he was likely thinking the same thing when he started frowning.
Luckily, there was a window inside the room, where they would at least have another way to escape if their temporary hiding place was compromised.
Let's not think how many zombies will be right outside the window.

Luck And Chronomancy
Time Magic is the best magic as everyone knows, although there are lots of unique Talents in the world. Most people only remember Haste because it is hard to get to higher Phases of Chronomancy. That is still enough to make the Talent iconic. A lucky enough Aleatory Talent can position you for greatness or leave you languishing in obscurity. The only true equality in the world is when that glowing message pops up at 8 years old. Even if it doesn't activate until you are an adult at 16 you still know. Sure you can find a new dungeon spawn and get another chance at a rare Talent, even this one, but you have to already be ready to delve into the *Far Wilds*, which is far easier with wealth or family power. This is the story of where my good fortune took me and the difference it made, even among a party of 7 others including an Arcanist. It is a journey of magic and monsters but also math, which some think is actually worse. Luckily I was born with Intelligence and Focus as my personal traits, and my parents were scholars. Of course Chronomancy can also be a frontline combat talent. Versitility well beyond other Elder Talents like Gravity, Abstraction, or Arcana. Might could have worked for me, too. I also met a runaway princess. All the best adventures have a princess. She hated being a noble and we didn't get married but it still counts. Besides she really filled out our front line. All that Leadership training came in handy. I still don't know where she's from. Who cares? How well Haste goes with giant hammers is what's important. I never learned much about anyone in the party, except the one I grew up with. I'm not a people person. I just wanted to optimize dungeon clearing time. *******Story Details******* No romance, politics, or traumatizing content, slice of life, or even dialogue. 1st person narration, like a guide/adventure log. 2000-7000 words a day, maybe 40-60% rpgish combat log with some reasoning on combat decisions, with the rest character Talent discussion and progression stuff. 8 person party with a decent variety in roles. Party members usually have 2 primary functions. Told from the support/control Chronomancer's perspective. Each party member will have 6 Basic/Background Traits, then 3 actual Talents with abilities. Capstone from their Educational Institution, Arbritrary as a gift from the temples, and Aleatory which is decided at birth, revealed at 8, and activated after adulthood at 16. Aleatory Traits ignore requirements and are random why is why they are so important. They'll gain new Talents from finding Dungeons to consume in the *Wilds*. Mature dungeons in cities can provide *Challenges* to raise the Phase of a Talent, up to 3 times from 1 to 4. Each character will get to roughly 8 non-Trait Talents. Attributes come exclusive from Talents, are required by Talents, and provide various effects as well. I designed about 220 Talents with abilities, 4 in each of 4 phases. "Traits" are just Attribute stuff. I'm not sure how many will be detailed in the story, more than 100 for sure. I used Talents because I want to be free of the legacy of tabletop. Half those rules are just because of the limitations inherent in a pre-computer ttrpg. This story mostly uses combat Talents, although like 1/3 of the 220 are for crafting and other society and economy stuff. If you really wanted to be a Thief you might take Intuition, Awarness, and Might for Basic Traits and Deftness, Manipulation, and Trickery for Family/Education. Then you'd pick Acrobatics, and Climbing for Educational Capstone and Arbitrary traits. You Aleatory Trait might be Shadow(Light/Dark) Magic, Umbramancy. A Bard might swap Dexterity for Charisma, Music for Acrobatics, and have gotten Illusion(Shadow/Sound(Air/Force)) for their Aleatory Trait.

The Runners of Westal
Anya Vorian wasn't picky. She'd take any apprenticeship that came her way. She, Lori and Andrew had prepared all winter for the interviews, but when only one offer came with her name on it, she suddenly wasn't so sure that she could do it. It was hard work, for one thing. It was dirty. They were respected, certainly, but in the sort of way that one respects a skilled plumber - grateful to have the job done, but glad it isn't your arms elbow deep in dung. In short, runners were odd folk. Maybe it was time to get fast. - A first-person tale inspired by long distance running.
