Volume 1 Chapter 19 Frostblight’s Envoy

The boy’s fatigue forced him to sit down, he let out a couple breaths of hot air out of his mouth.

The weariness in his body was almost sickening, the odor of blood had permeated the room.

Apart from the panting of the kid, the room was pure silence.

Jack quickly took out a flask out of his coat’s right pocket, the vial had been a little bit vexatious during the fight.

While annoying, nothing was better than a good drink after sport.

After gulping down three mouthfuls of water, he lifted himself up with great discontent, to go sit on a chair instead of the wooden floor.

He sat at the table, stopped moving before looking at the two doors of the room.

He let out a grunt of indignation, rose from his comfortable position and went to lock the two entries.

Only after looking at every possible afits in the room did he go back to the chair.

Jack started focusing on his magical aperture, slowly his consciousness entered his own being.

He saw his refined Chus as well as the entry to his dark and gloomy place.

He didn’t have a body, his consciousness was spread everywhere around.

The aperture itself was a cube with see through walls, outside one could only see emptiness, as if you were seeing an all encompassing dead angle.

The outside of the cube was emptiness, in contrast, the large sea of refined Chus in the box was still.

While Jack’s refined Chus could be moved at will in the aperture, in the outside world, precise Chus manipulation was extremely difficult taking years of practise to master a control comparable to the one he currently had.

In the middle of the cube, was a rift or maybe a door to the dark place that Jack had awoken his powers in.

Then he looked at the walls of his aperture; they weren’t extremely thick, around one meter in length.

Jack knew his talent wasn’t half bad, to reach the next big realm in Chus cultivation, one needed to shatter parts of their aperture’s walls.

The thicker those walls were the worst the talent of one was.

The world was unfair, some were given paper thin walls while some had walls large as a house.

One meter-thick walls was pretty decent, a little less and he could be considered a genius. With this talent he would be ranked as a gifted person.

This talent and the bone ring were what had allowed him to reach Rank 5 Noga in a year while under constant torture.

He quickly calculated the remaining refined Chus, as the fight had consumed quite a lot of it.

In the last fight, he had used 6,25 percent of his Chus, leaving him with 93,75 percent.

With a sigh of relief, he stopped looking at his aperture and slowly went back to his senses.

After a short while, his mind was once again clear, as if one took a cold shower right when they woke up. He saw the four dead bodies in the room and he started feeling a rock in his stomach.

He looked at his Bright Bronze Oath and let the soothing feeling wash away his anxiety.

While there was something broken deep down inside of him, he still felt some guilt when taking lives.

He could ease this burden by saying how he was killing sinners but he still felt some remorses. However when he looked at his weapon, his worries would be washed away and it would resolve his culpability.

When he was once again ready to act. He cracked his neck and got up.

He reached the door from where he had come from and continued exploring the bandits’ den.

Soon enough, he reached a stairway going down, he climbed down the stairs and arrived before a door, he could hear two people talking in the basement.

He felt that it was strange as before coming, he had been given information on the group he had to take care of, there should only have been seven members; Aumio Pifth the leader of the Red Ghosts, his second in command Fovk Leod that he had just killed as well as five other members.

If his calculation were correct, he had killed every single Red Ghost apart from Pifth.

Lynch tried to enter the room as quietly as possible. But as soon as he stepped foot in the room a voice interpellated him.

It said: “An unexpected guest… Kid, don't try to hide from me, I already knew you were here since you set foot in this house.”

A second voice asked in a panicked tone: “Sir Ghumkle, may I know whom you are talking to?”

Jack froze in place, before replying with a worried voice: “Hahaha, I truly lack in front of someone like you sir.”

He proceeded with caution but since he had already been exposed he didn’t really need to hide anymore.

Once he turned the corner he saw two men, one of them was a middle aged man with black hair and a sickly pale face, the other was a refined twenty-five ish years old man with short blond hair and a bird’s beak-like mask covering the top of his face.

One sent out a weak Rank 4 Noga’s Aura while the other let out a wild and overbearing Bala-level Aura.

The one Jack recognised as Aumio Pifth asked with a mix of fear and anger who Jack was.

The kid answered: “Hello to both sirs, my name is Yao Stoat, I am but a beginner in the magic seeking path, I cannot compare to any of you.”

The masked man replied with a smile: “No, you are way too humble, you did quite a number up there.”

Just from this sentence, Jack would have been stupid if he couldn’t understand that everything he did upstairs had been seen by this Bala-level Pathseeker and yet the man did not choose to stop him.

While Aumio was starting to get agitated and was starting to harbor ill intentions toward Jack, the other man kept a cool headed demeanor.

The blond man asked: “Now young man, do you have the humbleness to tell us which force you came here representing.”

Jack understood this may be his only way out and answered: “Oh good sir, I came here under the orders of the Sin Clearing Brigade of Glor. I did not wish to disrespect any of you.”

The expression of anger on Aumio’s face crumbled, turning into panic. He started thinking:

“It’s the end, if the Sin Clearing Brigade comes for a small fry like me, I wouldn’t be able to survive.

Oh Eryn, it is rumored that every member of the Brigade is at least a Rank 3 Noga Pathseeker.

If there was only one Rank 3 I would be able to stall enough time to be able to flee but if a squad comes I’m dead.

No, it’s not the end yet, if Frostblight is willing to shield me, I still have a chance.”

The man and the kid’s gazes were both on the blond man, waiting for his answer to Jack’s statement.

After a few breaths of time that seemed like an eternity to the bandit chief and the young cop, the masked man finally answered: “Frostblight has an agreement with the Sin Clearing Brigade, thus I will not interfere today.”

Aurio’s expression turned from bad to worse, this really was adding insult to injury; his gang had been decimated and he had no tree to take shelter under.

Jack eased up a little bit, he knew that if he had told anything else slightly less believable than the Sin Clearing Brigade, he would have been finished before he even had time to reach the end of his sentence.

The man continued: “However, this basement smells the good aroma of Sativam tea as such no blood shall be spilled here.”

“Now if you are willing to excuse me. I shall take my leave.” he said as he got up from his seat.

The man left his seat and slowly walked to the exit with a joyous expression on his lower face.

Even after the five minutes that had passed since the leave of sir Ghumkle, Jack didn’t dare to attack, no Noga-level Pathseeker would dare to disregard the words of a Bala.

As such Jack left the house while being wary of Aumio’s possible sneak attack.

Only after reaching the outside of the house did Jack’s expression eased up completely.

He took out his dagger and let the soothing feeling permeate his mind.

This morning had been full of emotions.

Author’s notes:

This is the end of this micro arc, it was more of me practicing the writing of an intrigue in multiple chapters than a real story.

However, both characters will be important in the story that is to come.

Stay tuned for the rest of my story.

See you next time :]
