《Dorming With The Jocks》Chapter 29- OLD

Rebecca rolled her eyes for what seemed like the 50th time in the last two minutes.

"So you're telling me you're upset that two guys are fighting over you?" She looked at me like I was crazy and scoffed.

"I just told you!" I was becoming frustrating with Rebecca's nonchalant attitude about this situation. "Kent was the one I kissed but never heard back from. If he couldn't be bothered to even write a letter then why should I give him the time of day?"

"Well he's hotter than Charlie, so there's your first reason," I lightly hit Rebecca on the arm and she giggled, grabbing a pillow off the bed to throw at me.

"I'm being serious, Kent really hurt me," Rebecca now grabbed my shoulders and faced me towards her.

"Why not hear him out? You'll never know why you never heard from him if you don't," She had a point, as much as I hated to admit. I groaned and ran my hands through my hair while pacing back and forth.

"Charlie said that he and Missy had reconnected though," I whispered, remembering what Charlie had written in the third letter he sent. He had made sure to mention Kent had been busy helping Missy study, but he was sure Missy had ulterior motives.

"The crazy ex? Who cares about her? She's not here, in the middle of all this testosterone, hormone filled, high school drama bullshit," Rebecca's choice of words sometimes made my head hurt. Then again, she had a point. Again.

"Look, if you're that paranoid, I brought this with me just in case," Rebecca began rummaging through my bags.

"Um, those are my bags?" I watched while Rebecca continued to rummage.

"I didn't have room in my bags, so I put this in yours," She explained like it was no big deal and suddenly pulled out a small can of mace that was bedazzled in rhinestones. "Bear mace, stronger than regular mace,"

"You bedazzled it," I commented but Rebecca ignored me and walked over to the door.

"Just keep it on you if you feel like you need to use it, use it. Then scream so I can come finish kicking their ass," Rebecca was peering through the door that she had cracked open, "Your friends are kind of cute though,"

"Perv," Rebecca shot me a playful glare and stuck out her tongue but didn't reply.

I grabbed my red sweatshirt, the one my mom had gotten me freshman year, the red one that Kent liked.

I heard the front door open and shut before Charlie's footsteps approached the door. He didn't bother saying anything to the other guys, he just walked into the master bedroom where Rebecca and I were standing.

"I'll give you guys some privacy," Rebecca quickly slipped out of the room, I could tell she was excited to talk to the guys and excited to be out of this room. I wanted to be out of this room.

"Are you alright?" Charlie asked, reaching out and grabbing my hands. "I'm so sorry all of this has happened,"

"It's okay, really, it's not your fault," I tried smiling up at him but something felt wrong. He wasn't acting like he was just upset, he looked absolutely furious. I understand he probably heard about Kent and I's kiss but that shouldn't be making him this upset.

"I'm going to get them to leave, I promise," Charlie squeezed my hands so I'd look back up at him and he gave me a caring smile. "I promise Sadie, nothing is going to ruin this weekend,"

"It's really not that bad," Charlie opened his mouth but his phone began ringing. As he fished for his pocket he began inching towards the bathroom.

"I've gotta take this, just a sec, uh it's my mom," Charlie smiled quickly and slipped into the bathroom, locking the door behind him. But I had seen his phone screen. All I was able to see was "Mi" and the last time I checked mom was spelled with "Mo".

With curiosity bubbling inside my chest, I carefully leaned against the bathroom door, pressing my ear against the cool wood. I could hear Charlie, but barely. My head was beginning to pound.

"I told you not to call me!" He sounded so upset. Why would he be speaking to his mother like that anyway? "I don't know what the hell they're doing up here!"

There was a long pause and I could hear Charlie fiddling around with things on the counter top. I held my breath to hear better.

"For the last time yes! I made sure of it. All of the letters were burned, not just thrown away," All of a sudden things were beginning to feel a little fuzzy. What letters had Charlie burned?

"How is it my fault you and Kent didn't get back together once she left?" Now I knew exactly who he was talking to.

"Get them out of here, I swear to God if you don't,"

I backed away from the door quickly in fear that Charlie was going to come out any second. Charlie and Missy had sabotaged Kent and I. They had worked together to keep my letters from reaching Kent! It all makes sense now.

Suddenly the bathroom door swung open and Charlie rushed past me, not saying a word as he slammed the door behind him. I paced back and forth in the room for a moment before figuring out my next move. I needed to talk to Kent, to explain everything to him.

If everything I suspected was true, Kent was just as lost as I was.

I rummaged through my bag and grabbed the five letters I had received from Charlie then rushed out of the room and down to the living room where everyone was. Rebecca was sitting next to Dylan and Squid as they quizzed her about our high school and hometown. Kent was still standing in the same spot.

"Sadie,"

"Kent,"

Kent smirked down at me. I hadn't realized how much I had missed that smirk and I never thought I'd say that.

"I need to talk to you," Kent nodded and grabbed my hand, turning and leading me out the back door and down the steps to the large backyard where you could see more lodges down the mountain and the ski lift lit up in the night sky. It was getting darker by the minute.

"Sadie I swear I wrote you, I even-"

"Kent it's not your fault!" Our breaths were visible clouds in the cold night. "It was Charlie and Missy,"

"Wait, what?" Kent reached out and pulled me closer to him, wrapping his arms around me and I was instantly warm, instantly comfortable. He sure didn't waste any time.

"Charlie and Missy made sure that our letters never reached each other," I explained quickly and quietly. My headache was getting worse and it seemed like my vision was beginning to get blurry.

"No fuckin' way," Kent's eyes grew wide and his mouth hung open before he finally shook his head. "It all makes sense now,"

"It wasn't until a few weeks ago that Charlie had sent me a letter, I thought it was going to be from you," I held out the letters and Kent grabbed them quickly, opening them to skim through the writing.

Kent reached up and ran his hand through his hair, letting out a loud sigh and chuckling. Why would he be laughing right now?

"What's so funny?" I asked, taking a step back from Kent so I didn't have to look up so high to make eye contact with him.

"I gave every single letter I wrote you to Charlie to deliver for me cause he offered," Kent continued chuckling and even I couldn't help but giggle. This whole situation was screwed up. "These are my letters Sadie. No wonder Missy had pushed so hard to work in the office after you left,"

"That bitch," I muttered and glared down at my feet. Missy and Charlie had both stolen time away from Kent and I. This whole time that I thought Kent had moved on or didn't actually have feelings for me was a lie. All this time I had spent thinking Charlie was so sweet and caring, it was all Kent's words, other than a few things Charlie made sure to add in. Like how Kent had been seeing Missy again - false.

"So you and Charlie huh?" Kent asked, wiggling his eyebrows at me teasingly.

"It's not like that!" I quickly defended myself. "When I hadn't heard from you, Charlie started writing to me, telling me how everything was normal and making it seem like you had moved on . . . well, I thought it was only fair if I tried to move on too," I let my eyes trail back down to my feet and Kent stepped closer to me again.

"Are you two together?"

"No!" I answered, snapping my head up to look at Kent. The motion made my head hurt even worse. Even though I had tried to make myself feel something for Charlie, I didn't feel that way. Especially now.

"Good, then I won't feel bad doing this," Kent grabbed my face between his hands and kissed me, sending fireworks throughout my body all the way to my toes. His tongue slipped through my lips and I immediately tasted beer and a hint of peppermint. I didn't mind it, I was kissing Kent! I had dreamed about this moment happening nearly every night since the last time I had kissed him. Kent's right hand slid to the base of my neck while his left grabbed my hip and pulled me closer. His lips were warm and surprisingly soft, making the cold air around us bearable.

The kiss was heating up my whole body, soon enough I wouldn't realize my toes and nose are frozen. The warmth of Kent's lips disappeared for a moment when I felt his smile and a soft chuckle before pressing his lips back against mine, harder this time.

I reached up and grabbed both of his arms, stretching on to my tippy toes to try and deepen the kiss even more. I don't think that was possible. My head was spinning and pounding at the same time, I couldn't tell if that was from the kiss or something else was happening.

"What the hell!" In a split second Kent and I were jumping away from each other and staring up at Charlie who stood on the deck, peering down at the two of us. "I bring you up here Sadie and this is how you repay me?"

He turned and began making his way down the steps, closer to Kent and I.

"You really do get around, don't you?" My jaw dropped and before I could stop him, Kent was pushing me behind him and Charlie stepped closer.

"You better watch how you talk to her Charlie," Kent sounded meaner than ever, I'm glad I'm on his side. Charlie chuckled and glanced at me, then back at Kent.

"You don't want to do this, Kent," He threatened and now Kent laughed.

"You're not really going to fight me over this," Kent taunted and Charlie glanced at me one more time. "We used to be best friends Charlie, what the hell?"

"This is all for you darling," Charlie ignored Kent as he spoke to me and I watched in horror as he swung hard at Kent, landing a perfect right hook to his jaw. Kent took one step back before throwing a punch and sending Charlie to his backside, holding his left eye. In a split second Charlie had scrambled to his feet and tackled Kent around the waist, sending them both to the freshly powdered ground.

"Stop!" I screamed but the two were deaf at the moment. "Stop please!"
