《Dorming With The Jocks》Chapter 28- OLD

I finished shoving my snow pants into my duffel bag and zipped up the bag tight. This was going to be a great weekend to kick off winter break!
"Almost ready?" Chunk asked, poking his head into my room.
"Yup, just grabbing my board," I reached into my closet and pulled out my three year old snow board that was white and black. I followed Chunk down the hall and into the elevator. Jace and Jayden were already in the elevator waiting, Squid and Dylan would have to wait for the next one.
"You didn't tell Charlie did you?" Jace asked me as we reached the lobby and the doors slid open.
"No way, he probably would've told us not to come. You know how Charlie can get," I explained while we all hurried out to Chunk's car. Charlie had these phases where he just didn't want to hangout with any of the guys, I could tell he was going through that phase right now. There's nothing better to do than to surprise him at the cabin and make this weekend the best one yet, surrounded by alcohol and good friends.
"Hurry up slow pokes!" Jayden called to Squid and Dylan who sprinted out of the building. Thankfully Chunk had a roof storage for all the boards and gear to go.
The car was still packed full though. Squid ended up sitting in the trunk with all of our bags, Chunk promised he would drive carefully but the moment we pulled out of the parking lot he stepped on the gas and Squid was squished again the back window, causing us all to bust out in laughter. It was only a two hour trip to get up to the cabin and luckily I remembered exactly how to get there.
"This is a cabin?" Squid asked, gawking at the large cabin as we pulled up. I jumped out and punched in the pin to open the garage. Another car, a Subaru, was parked in the garage but Charlie's car wasn't here.
Maybe that girl he's been talking to actually came up with him. Why wouldn't he have just said that in the first place?
"Where's Charlie?" Chunk asked, parking his car and jumping out along with everyone else.
"I have no idea," I walked into the garage and tried the side door, it was open. He wasn't far if he left the doors unlocked.
"Come on, we can just surprise him when he gets back," We all grabbed our bags and quickly headed into the cabin. I wonder where Charlie had disappeared to.
I let the guys roam, giving themselves tours of the cabin, and went straight to the master bedroom, the room Charlie and I used to share as kids. Instead of the room being empty and clean, a hot pink duffel bag was open on the bed with clothes and other personal belongings thrown about everywhere.

It looked like a tornado went through. I guess I was right, Charlie's girlfriend had come up with him. What a liar. Why would he have to lie about that to us?
I couldn't leave my bags in the room so I settled with throwing them onto the couch in the living room and finding myself a beer. The fridge was full of fresh groceries and plenty of beer for the weekend. I had to move a huge pitcher of what smelled like punch out of the way to grab a six pack.
"Who the hell makes this much punch?" I muttered to myself while putting the large pitcher back in the fridge.
The guys found the other guest rooms and threw their stuff in, all except Chunk.
"There's girl stuff in this room," He called from where he was standing in the door way. Everyone crowded around Chunk to stare into the guest room where there was indeed girls clothing thrown about. Definitely a teenage girl.
"Two girls?" I asked, mostly whispering to myself but the others heard.
"What do you mean two?" Jace asked.
"In the other bedroom, there's Charlie's stuff and another girl's things," I explained, shrugging my shoulders at their confused looks. I was just as lost as they were.
"Why wouldn't Charlie be bragging his tits off about having two girls up at his cabin?" Jayden asked, slapping his brother on the shoulder and laughing along with the others. I laughed along, kind of, but something didn't sit right with me about this.
"We should hit the slopes man," Dylan said, already ripping his snow pants out from his duffel bag.
"Yeah, why wait around for Charlie when we could be having a blast instead?" Squid chuckled and started grabbing his things too.
"We came here to surprise him, don't you think we should, oh I don't know, surprise him?" I asked and the guys groaned in response. For some reason, I felt extremely irritable suddenly.
"He could take hours to come back though," Jace whined and I pointed towards the fridge.
"There's plenty of beer here to keep us occupied until Charlie and his dates come back," I reminded the guys and they seemed to be alright with this news so far.
We would have plenty of time to snowboard tomorrow anyway.
"I bet these girls are from Lincoln High, that's probably why Charlie is embarrassed to tell us," Dylan blurted out, dissing on one of the school's in our region that we played sports against regularly. The girls from Lincoln High were known for being easy, way too easy.
Before anyone had the chance to reply to Dylan's remark we heard the front door of the cabin open.
"Hide, hurry!" Chunk whisper-yelled at us while we all scattered to find a hiding spot. I was stuck bending behind the couch with Jace next to me.

I think Jayden and Dylan had made it behind the curtains, I had seen Squid dash into one of the bedrooms but I wasn't sure where Chunk had made it to.
"That was amazing, but I'm definitely ready for some alcohol," I heard an unfamiliar, high pitched voice come closer to where we were hiding. They must be standing in the kitchen.
"There's plenty of that here," Charlie announced. I heard his footsteps as he walked towards the fridge and opened it. "What the. . .?"
"Thanks for waiting guys," A familiar, sarcastic voice called out. I knew that voice. It sounded exactly like Sadie. Involuntarily my knees straightened and I stood from behind the couch, my eyes immediately catching Sadie's and I watched as hers grew wide.
"Kent?" Charlie's head snapped towards me as Sadie spoke, a pissed off look immediately replacing his happy-go-lucky look a few moments before. The rest of the guys came out of their hiding places slowly, each one looking as confused as I felt.
"Surprise?" Squid announced weakly, shrugging his shoulders. Charlie glanced at every single one of the guys before his dark eyes landed on me.
"What are you doing here?" Charlie's jaw clenched and I could tell he was trying to keep it together. Although I was still trying to understand why Charlie would be upset about this. Sure we ruined his weekend plans, but he was the one who was up at a cabin with the girl I had fallen for.
"We thought we'd surprise you, but obviously you've got your hands full," I muttered, my eyes not leaving Sadie's the whole time I spoke. She was fidgeting with the hem of her shirt and standing extremely close to her friend.
She looked confused and hurt and for a moment I was glad. Why the hell would she be up at Charlie's cabin anyway?
"I, well. . ." Charlie couldn't seem to find the words to say as he glanced around at all the stunned faces. No doubt this would be the talk of the school once break was over. "My parents were only planning on three of us being here this weekend. . . I'm not sure if they'd be okay with everyone here,"
Lies. Complete lies were pouring out of my best friends mouth. Should I even call him that anymore? Who was this guy?
Charlie's parents were always telling him to invite more people up to the cabin, knowing how hard it had been for Charlie to make friends to begin with. I'm sure they'd be ecstatic to know their cabin was full of his friends for the weekend.
"Couldn't they stay at least for a few hours?" Sadie's friend asked meekly, turning towards Sadie who finally tore her eyes away from mine. "I don't mean to be rude Sadie, but it would be nice to not be the third wheel for a bit?"
So Charlie and Sadie were together. Ouch. . .
"You knew you were going to be the third wheel from the beginning," Sadie snapped back quietly, but quickly relaxed. "It's not my cabin so this is up to Charlie really,"
Now Sadie wouldn't even look at me. My heart felt like it was about to beat out of my chest for this girl and she couldn't even make eye contact with me again. I guess she had already chosen who she wanted to be with. It hadn't even been that long. That's probably why I hadn't heard from her at all, she had moved on to Charlie.
"I'll be right back," Charlie snatched his cell phone from the counter and stomped outside. Sadie grabbed her friends hand and tugged her towards the master bedroom.
"We need to talk," I heard Sadie mumble to her friend before moving quickly to the fridge to grab something to drink. Sadie pulled out the large pitcher and began grabbing a few glasses from a cabinet.
Chunk was the first to rush over and hug Sadie, quickly followed by Squid, then Jace and Jayden and finally Dylan. I couldn't bring myself to move, just watching from a distance as my friends hugged Sadie and asked how she had been. Sadie quickly introduced Rebecca to the boys as well.
"I think it's great that you guys wanted to surprise Charlie," Rebecca complimented, keeping her eye on Dylan for the most part. But really she had all of their attention. I couldn't stop looking at Sadie who still wouldn't look at me.
"I'm glad you're all here, do you guys want some punch?" Sadie asked, pouring herself a glass first. Typical Sadie to change the subject. I opted out of any punch, still needing to finish my beer and still trying to piece together what was happening.
Sadie managed to glance my way for a brief second before she finished the punch in her glass and grabbed Rebecca's arm, tugging her towards the stairs.
"What the hell is going on?" Squid asked once the girls had slammed the door shut.
"I have no idea," I glanced at the front door where Charlie had disappeared and then back up at the bedroom door Sadie and Rebecca had disappeared into, "But I'm going to find out,"
"As long as I get to distract her friend," Dylan muttered, grabbing a beer of his own from the six pack I had pulled out. Squid was pouring himself another glass of punch and Chunk was already falling asleep on the couch.
Something wasn't right here and if Sadie and I didn't talk, we'd never figure it out.
