《Dorming With The Jocks》Chapter 32 -

I could hardly see straight at this point. Charlie and Kent were a dark blur, rolling around in front of me with their fists flinging and legs kicking every which way. The sky was getting darker by the minute and the small fire was doing nothing to provide light around us.
I had called out for help multiple times, but no one had come out of the cabin to check out what was going on. Where the hell were they? Where was Rebecca?
"Get off of me!" Charlie yelled before kicking Kent in the stomach and successfully creating distance between the two of them. They both stumbled to their feet, Kent spit blood onto the white snow around his feet and Charlie's nose was bleeding but he didn't wipe the blood away. I took the opportunity to jump between the two of them, my back facing Kent and my arms stretched out to keep Charlie as far away as possible.
"Why are you doing this, Charlie?" Kent yelled over my head and Charlie stepped forward, his chest pressing against my hands. I felt Kent step even close to me as well but I didn't move. I couldn't move. All of this had happened way too fast and my foggy brain was still trying to catch up. Why did I feel so groggy and tired right now?
"You always have to get what you want, do you realize that?" Charlie spat out, his fists clenched so hard his knuckles were turning white, "You couldn't even let me have Sadie, you have everything I've ever wanted and you had to take Sadie from me too! I'm tired of constantly living in your fucking shadow!"
I stepped backward, pushing against Kent's chest to create more distance and dropped my arms. If they would just talk about this, they'd realize they didn't need to fight at all. I wasn't some prize to be bought or won, I had a say in all of this as well. Or did they both not realize that?
"What are you talking about? I never tried to hide my feelings for Sadie from you, you told me yourself she wasn't your type. If anything I should be the one pissed off right now! You never told me about your feelings for Sadie, not once, so don't act like I'm the one stabbing you in the back right now," The hurt and confusion was written all over Kent's bruising face.
"You couldn't stand her when she came to the school! You wanted nothing to do with her! As far as I can tell you always get everything and I get left in the dust, every single time! Always!" Before Kent had a chance to respond to Charlie, he lept forward and shoved me out of the way, tackling Kent by the waist, sending them both back to the snowy ground.
"Charlie stop!" I rushed forward, stumbling over my own feet, trying to grab at either of them but I couldn't get a good grip. Charlie and Kent, tangled together, slipped down the snowy hill a few yards from the fire pit and plunged into the bushes below.
"What the hell is going on?" Rebecca was suddenly by my side, grabbing my arm to help me stand up.
"Charlie's gone nuts and started fighting Kent," I grabbed my head, partially in disbelief at the situation we were now in and partially to try and steady myself.
"And now they're down there?" Rebecca peered over the edge of the hill that the boys had disappeared down.

"Where is everyone else? I need the guys, they have to get those two away from each other," I slipped out of Rebecca's grip and started to slide down the steep hill myself now.
"That's why I came out here, something's wrong Sadie, like really wrong," Rebecca grabbed my arm again to stop me, "They're all acting really strange Sadie, like they're drunk or something worse, I don't know what to do,"
I realized what she was saying now, something I had been fighting this whole time. My head pounding and my sight getting darker. Somehow, someway, Charlie had managed to drug the majority of us. But how? How had he managed to do that without any of us noticing?
"Sadie, you need to come back inside, you aren't going to be able to help them right now," Rebecca tugged on my arm again but I ripped my arm away from her grasp.
"I have to help Kent. You didn't see the look on Charlie's face, he's going to hurt him, Rebecca!"
"Sadie, listen to me! The pills, you know the ones we found earlier? They're gone, all of them are gone, you are not safe out there," Rebecca pleaded with me to come back inside but there was nothing she was going to say to stop me from helping Kent.
"I've gotta stop them, please tell the others," I jumped away from Rebecca and slid down the hill towards the bushes that Kent and Charlie had disappeared through, not caring about the snow that was sliding up my pant legs or the fact my pants were completely soaked now or the fact I could hardly see straight with the pounding in my head. Rebecca begged me to stop but I couldn't just leave these two out here, waiting in the cabin for one of them to come back victorious.
"You're fucking crazy!" I could hear Kent yell from not too far away. I broke through the bushes and found the two, standing face to face, dodging each other's punches. They were running out of steam, both of them, their punches slower than before with less power behind each one.
"Will you two knock it off already?" I finally screamed, grabbing the back of Charlie's shirt and tugging as hard as I could. In less than two seconds Charlie had whipped around and shoved his elbow as hard as he could into my face, my nose cracking and sending unimaginable and blinding pain throughout my entire body. I fell to the ground and clutched my throbbing nose, instantly feeling the warm liquid draining from it and tasting metallic.
"What the fuck did you just do?" Kent was kneeling beside me, wrapping one arm around my shoulders and cupping my hands in the other, trying to examine the damage done in the dim light of the evening that was almost gone completely.
"Are you okay, Sadie? Please tell me you're okay," He whispered, staring down at me in horror while tears involuntarily spilled from my eyes. I could only hold my nose and nod slowly, blinking as fast as possible to try to clear the tears away, but that wasn't working well. It had been stupid to try to break their fight apart.
"I think it's broken," I whispered and Kent's eyes darkened in a way that even scared me.
"You son of a bitch, I'm going to-" Before Kent could fully stand and confront Charlie a large branch was crashing into the back of his head and he fell into the snow face first, body limp.

"Kent!" I scrambled forward, one hand this cupping my bloody nose, trying to see if Kent was still conscious but Charlie stepped in between us. Charlie's heel connected with my sternum and sent me back to the ground, forgetting momentarily about my nose and now focused solely on the pain growing in my chest, the blood from my nose flowing freely now.
"You should have stayed out of this, Sadie!" Charlie yelled, grabbing his own head in frustration and pacing back and forth, mumbling to himself. What the hell had happened to him? He was a completely different person than I had known all this time.
"Charlie, please calm down, none of this needs to happen," My heart was pounding and the blood rushing through my ears was so loud I could hardly hear what Charlie was saying.
He took a few steps away from me, glaring down at Kent who was still not moving.
"Do you realize I was willing to give you everything? I even let your annoying, dumbass friend tag along with you this weekend. Just so I could spend some time with you! Are you really that blind?" Charlie hadn't stopped pacing around Kent's body, focusing his glare on me and then switching it back to Kent, "Then your stupid knight in shining armor had to show up and ruin everything. Why wasn't I ever good enough for you, Sadie? What does Kent have that I don't?"
"Charlie, please stop. I can't help that I don't have feelings for you, I'm sorry, okay? I'm so sorry you've been feeling this way, I never intended-"
"Oh shut up already!" Charlie stomped over and knelt down in front of me, I could see his face clearly now in the bright moonlight. Gone was the nice, charming Charlie I had once known, instead he was replaced with an evil, dark eyed asshole who wanted revenge.
"Kent's your best friend, Charlie. Why are you doing this?"
"It's too late for all that now, Sadie, I've seen enough of who you really are," Charlie reached out and grabbed my chin, forcing me to stare at him, "I'm not too impressed with your true colors and your choice in men, sweetheart,"
Charlie pushed my face away harshly, chuckling at the fact he had me scared out of my mind. He stood up tall and fished through his pocket, pulling out a shiny knife with a dark sheath over the blade. My heart stopped completely, watching as he slowly took off the covering, allowing the knife to glimmer in the moonlight.
"Charlie! What the hell are you doing?" I wanted to run, scream, attack him, do something. Anything! But all I could do was sit in the cold snow, staring at Charlie who continued to play with the knife in his hand.
"Do you know what kind of knife this is, Sadie?" Charlie smiled over at me, a smile that made my already cold body completely freeze over in pure fear, "It's a custom made Razor Tek hunting knife, my dad gave it to me two years ago for Christmas. Have I ever mentioned to you my fascination of knives? Especially hunting knives, they're so. . . dangerous,"
There was only pride pouring from his mouth at the moment. As if standing over your best friends body holding a hunting knife was something to be proud of. He wasn't actually going to do anything with it, he couldn't. No one would actually hurt their best friend from child hood over a girl they had met not even a year ago. If I had known this is what it'd boil down to, I never would went to their stupid school!
"Please Charlie, please. Can we just talk, we can forget all about this and go back inside and just talk," I begged Charlie, who almost look conflicted, staring down at the shiny knife, gripped in his shaking hands.
Charlie turned away from Kent and I, his back facing me as it appeared he was thinking about his next move. I took the chance to slide through the snow over to Kent, who still hadn't moved an inch. Worry was starting to make me sick, mixed with the blood I had swallowed, my stomach turned into tight knots. As soon as I was close enough I reached out and shook Kent's shoulder lightly. A quiet groan rose from his chest and his head turned slightly, not a lot, but just enough for a glimpse of hope.
"You both are pathetic," Charlie had turned around now, staring down at me and twirling the knife in his hands. "What do you think Kent's going to do now? He can't protect you, he isn't enough of a man to protect you, can't you see that?"
Without saying a word I continued to try to shake Kent to consciousness.
"He doesn't even care about you, Sadie! Why are you so blind?" Charlie yelled.
"Charlie, stop," Kent's strained voice mumbled from beside me, he slowly got up on his hands and knees, staring up at Charlie, "Why the hell are you doing all of this? For what?"
"Because I'm finally standing up to you Kent," Charlie's words were almost as sharp as the knife he held, "For years I've stood on the sidelines, watching you always get what you want, always come in first place, always taking what was mine! Everything thinks you're such a great guy, a real gentleman, but you're not! Your time in the spot light and overshadowing me is over!"
Kent reached out, using my hand to help him stand up, keeping his eye on Charlie who was seething like a mad man. Whoever this was standing in front of the two of us, he was not Charlie.
"Charlie, I had no idea you felt this way, why haven't you ever talked to me about this? None of this needs to happen, Charlie," Kent was as calm as ever, how he remained calm in this situation I had no idea, I still felt like my world was spinning around, their voices muffled and my nose still throbbing. I wonder if it was actually broken.
"If Sadie isn't mine, then she isn't going to be yours either!" The anger that was darkening in Charlie's eyes scared me, the fact that he had a weapon and we did not didn't help either. I'd like to say I knew Charlie well enough to know he wouldn't actually hurt us, but I don't. I don't know Charlie at all.
"Charlie just calm down, please," Kent spoke again but now Charlie turned and lunged towards Kent. A scream I didn't even recognize as my own ripped from my throat as I watched Charlie plunge the hunting knife deep into Kent's right shoulder, both of them falling to the ground and Kent screaming out in pain.
Charlie stood quickly, leaving the knife sticking out of Kent's shoulder while Kent moaned in pain, grasping his shoulder and cursing Charlie with every word imaginable. Charlie stared down at his best friend, almost looking regretful, almost.
"Charlie what the hell did you do!" I rushed towards Charlie, hitting him over and over as hard as I could, with whatever strength I had left in me, but it was too easy for Charlie to push me back down, away from him.
This wasn't Charlie, this wasn't who he really was. Was it? Why had he snapped like this? Out of the blue? I knew coming up here was a mistake but I hadn't listened to my gut. I never should've came! None of this would have happened if I had just stayed home.
Kent wouldn't have a knife sticking out of his shoulder and I wouldn't have a broken nose.
"He knew I loved you Sadie, he knew from day one and he still stole you from me," Charlie continued to ramble on, pacing in front of me while I stayed down on the ground, not sure what my next move should be. Should I make a run for it? And leave Kent to Charlie's wrath? No I couldn't do that.
"I'm really not a fan of people who take what's mine," Charlie muttered, almost to himself.
"I'm not yours to claim, Charlie! I don't belong to anyone, you can't claim another person!" I yelled, wanting to slap Charlie and run away from this scene. All the way back home if I had to.
Before Charlie could respond a loud engine came ripping through the trees and bushes, a large blur flashed before my eyes before I realized it was one of the snowmobiles. The rider didn't bother cutting the engine or even braking before jumping from his seat and tackling Charlie into the snow.
"You son of a bitch! What the hell did you do to Jackie?" Squid had crawled on top of Charlie, landing blow after blow straight into his face all the while Charlie was yelling for him to get off.
I took this opportunity to crawl over to where Kent was still laying in the snow, groaning in pain and holding onto the knife sticking from his shoulder.
I could barely watch as Squid continued to mercilessly punch Charlie, the rage inside of him radiating off his body. I had never seen Squid upset before, let alone fight, but now he seemed to be out of control, not even listening to Charlie's pleas. Suddenly Chunk and Dylan were beside us as well, Chunk leapt forward to grab Squid by the shoulders and tear him away from Charlie's bloody face.
"What the fuck is happening?" Chunk yelled, still holding back a belligerent Squid who was swearing up and down to let him finish the job. Charlie gripped his face, writhing back and forth in unimaginable pain.
"Sadie! Oh my God, Sadie are you okay?" Rebecca rushed up behind me, holding onto my shoulders and trying to examine my face.
"I'm fine, I'm fine," I couldn't stop looking between Squid, Charlie and Kent in horror, "Kent's hurt, bad,"
Dylan was already trying to help Kent up to his feet to get him back to the cabin and Chunk had successfully calmed Squid down enough so that he wouldn't attack Charlie again.
"This bastard tried to drug us all! That fucking punch in the fridge," Squid breathed out, shaking from anger and probably the cold as well, "Jackie's passed out cold in the bathroom and so are the others!"
Squid lunged forward again and managed to land a harsh kick to Charlie's ribs before Chunk pulled him back again.
"I already called the cops, I didn't know what else to do," Rebecca admitted, grabbing my elbow to help me to my feet. My head was spinning still and even if it wasn't dark I wouldn't have been able to see clearly.
"Squid, help Kent back up to the house. Dylan, help me with Charlie," Chunk ordered Squid, pushing him away from Charlie before turning to grab his arms. Charlie was still cussing and spitting out blood but he was too weak to fight back anymore. The fight was stopped and even though I felt relief I knew this night was far from over.
With Rebecca holding onto me and Squid basically carrying Kent, we made our way up the steep, slippery hill and back towards the cabin. The fire had gone out by now, barely smoldering in the pit. Dylan and Chunk drug Charlie up behind us and through the doors back into the warm cabin.
By the time we got into the living room, Jackie had managed to stumble out of the bathroom and was trying to wake Jayden and Jase who were passed out on the couches.
"Oh my God! What the hell happened?" Jackie nearly screamed when she saw us and all the blood. Squid helped Kent sit down before rushing over to Jackie, cradling her face between his hands and asking a million questions. Jackie insisted she was okay but Squid still wouldn't let her go, obviously terrified about her condition.
Chunk and Dylan roughly shoved Charlie down onto one of the chairs in the room and towered over him, threatening him that if he didn't stay down they'd let Squid finish what he started.
We could hear the sirens coming up the road now and I felt my body relax just a little bit more. Help was coming, Charlie wouldn't be able to hurt anyone else now.
