《Dorming With The Jocks》Chapter 29 -

Thankfully Rebecca actually had a car, a two door Subaru that we stuffed full with our bags. My mom had been in a good mood since break had started and was fine with our 'girls' trip, but still wouldn't give me my phone back. She told me I could call on Rebecca's phone if anything were to happen.

Charlie had written his number down in the last letter he sent so that Rebecca and I could keep in touch with him on her phone.

I was almost bursting with excitement, excited to go snowboarding and see a few of my friends from school. Charlie had been just fine with Rebecca joining and even told me that Squid, Chunk, Jayden and Jase would be up there as well. I didn't know whether to be sad or relieved that Kent wasn't coming.

"Okay, three hours and twelve minutes to go," Rebecca confirmed, glancing at the GPS on her phone before plugging in an old aux cord that miraculously still works.

Thankfully Rebecca and I have the same taste in music or it would've been a very long trip. In three hours we made it to the lodge where Charlie had told us to meet him.

Just like he said he would be, Charlie stood outside the main lodge, waving at us as we pulled up with a huge smile. It might be the lighting, but Charlie seemed more rugged than the last time I saw him, he had a little bit of stubble on his cheeks and chin. It had only been a month and a half since I had seen him but it looked like he had been working out more too.

"You must be Rebecca, I'm Charlie," Charlie reached through the window and shook Rebecca's hand as we pulled up next to him, "you guys can follow me,"

Charlie smiled and said hi to me before he jumped on a snowmobile parked nearby and started to drive off, Rebecca followed with good distance.

"He's a lot cuter than I thought he'd be," Rebecca mentioned while we followed Charlie up a snowy road. It took us another ten minutes just to reach the cabin but if I'm being honest it wasn't really a cabin, more like a mansion.

"Does he have a brother by chance?" Rebecca teased, staring at the house in awe as she parked the car.

"Welcome!" Charlie jumped off his snowmobile and opened my door before I had the chance to. He grabbed most of our bags and lead us into the cabin. We were greeted by warmth and the fresh scent of pine.

"This place is amazing," Rebecca commented before even seeing most of the cabin, rushing in front of Charlie to stare up at the vaulted ceiling. Charlie simply laughed and watched her rush around, stepping towards me to give me a big hug. It was nice to see him again, he seemed to be doing good.

"Sorry about her," I whispered, feeling my cheeks getting hot.

"Don't be, she seems great," He let go of me and I followed him up the stairs to the master bedroom, "I figured you two could share this room, it's the biggest,"

Charlie plopped our bags down on the large King size bed with checkered black and gray printed sheets and blankets.

"I'm really happy you guys are here," Charlie lead me back downstairs and into the kitchen.

It was a huge kitchen with concrete counter tops, metal industrial lighting and beautiful white cabinets. The cabinets were paneled with glass windows so you could see the beautiful china that Charlie's mom surely bought specifically for this cabin. The color theme matched the typical cabin colors you'd think of, different shades of red, black and grey throughout the entire place.

"Whoa," Was all I could manage to say as I took in my surroundings. I knew Charlie's parents had good jobs but I didn't realize they had this kind of money.

I hadn't noticed anyone else's bags or cars out front, I wonder if they were going to be here soon or not.

"It's a nice place, my parents have a housekeeper who comes up to clean and make sure everything is working fine," Charlie explained and rambled on about the cabin, telling me there were four bathrooms throughout the house and six bedrooms, three upstairs and three downstairs.

Rebecca suddenly appeared again, looking like a child who got lost in a candy store.

"This place is so nice, I don't think I've ever been somewhere so nice before," Rebecca gushed, soaking in the kitchen as well now. In the sitting area to the left of the kitchen there were three large windows that had the most amazing view I had ever seen. You could see three multiple ski lifts and a few more mountains in the distance covered with snow powdered pine trees.

"I'll show you the best part," Charlie motioned for the two of us to follow him and he led the way down a staircase that curved with the wall and spiraled down. As we reached the bottom of the stairs Charlie flipped on the lights and I was amazed to see a cinema room.

Reclining chairs, just like at movie theaters, formed three rows with four chairs in each row, plus a couple of couches in case there wasn't enough room. A huge screen was on one wall and a projector was hanging from the ceiling. A full sized bar was to the left with a soda and popcorn machine. This place was like a dream. I didn't realize people actually lived in luxury like this.

"How do you expect me to want to go snowboarding after seeing this?" Rebecca asked, sinking into one of the chairs. I walked over to check out the bar area, it was nicer than my kitchen back home.

"I can make you a drink if you'd like?" Charlie wiggled his eyebrows at me and held up a bottle of tequila from behind the counter. I just laughed and shook my head.

"I think we should probably eat before we start drinking, are you hungry Rebecca?" Rebecca popped up from the chair and nodded her head, we hadn't even eaten breakfast this morning before leaving.

"Whatever you want Sadie," Charlie smirked and turned away from us, walking back up the stairs with Rebecca and I following eagerly.

"I think this is going to be a great time," Rebecca whispered while Charlie went to the kitchen and we stayed in the living room, "You guys look cute together,"

Rebecca brought up something I didn't want to think about. Charlie and I together. Yeah Charlie is attractive and he's always been nice to me but I didn't have feelings for him, even though I tried. He just wasn't. . . for me.

"Does everything seem okay though?" I quietly asked, making sure Charlie wasn't peeking around a corner listening, "Nothing feels weird? No one else is here yet,"

"What? I think you're worrying too much, everything seems to be going great, and the others are probably almost here,"

I tried to take her advice and relax but for some reason the knot in my stomach wasn't going away. This place was beautiful, breathtaking, Charlie was being an amazing host so far and making this trip even better. But something wasn't right. I didn't want to be here with Charlie at all.

I want to be here with Kent.

Charlie suddenly appeared again with a childish grin on his face.

"So, I guess the housekeeper didn't get groceries like I thought," Charlie chuckled nervously, "I'm going to have to go grab some real quick, I hope you guys don't mind if I run off for a second,"

"No not at all, do you need some company?" I asked, Rebecca wasn't even paying attention to our conversation.

"I'll make it quick, I promise. You guys should just relax and watch a movie or something," He smiled at me before turning around and heading out the door. He called back to tell us to text him if we needed anything from the store and he'd be back soon.

As soon as the door shut Rebecca was standing right in front of me.

"Snooping time?" She asked, jumping away from me and dancing around for a second.

"No, no snooping," I replied quickly but she had already slipped past me and was making her way upstairs, I ran after her, "Seriously, no. We can't just go snooping around Charlie's parents cabin! That's just rude,"

For some reason I was whispering as I hopelessly chased my friend from room to room until we made it to one of the guest bathrooms that Charlie must have been using. His things were spread out on the counter and Rebecca was looking through his things.

"Can you please stop? You're making me feel like a bad person right now," I muttered while Rebecca dramatically rolled her eyes from where she was kneeling down and shuffling through drawers.

"Bingo," Even though I didn't want to snoop, I was kneeling down next to Rebecca to see what she had found, worry thrown out the window. Curiosity gets the best of me sometimes.

"Risperidome and," Rebecca squinted at the pill bottles in her hands, she has terrible eyesight, "ambien?"

"Do you know what those are?" Ambien sounded familiar, I think that has something to do with sleeping, but I hadn't heard of risperidome before. Both bottles were about half full.

"Good thing we have google," Rebecca pulled out her phone and started to type away but then stopped, "I don't have good service up here at all,"

Rebecca put the bottles back, closing the drawer they came out of before holding her phone high in the air to try to strengthen the signal. After a couple of moments Rebecca got enough of a signal to get a google result.

"So it says that respiridome is prescribed to help with schizophrenia, irritability from autism and bipolar disorder," Rebecca rattled off while I tried to make sense of it all. Surely they were his parents pills that they had forgotten.

"I wonder if his parents forgot these up here or something, these sound important," I refused to believe they were Charlie's pills. Charlie didn't take any pills, did he?

Rebecca reached back into the drawer to pull out the bottles again but we heard the front door open and Charlie was calling out for us in a matter of seconds. Rebecca shut the drawer again and we both rushed to the master bedroom, pretending to be rifling through our things as Charlie came into the room smiling.

"I got a bunch of groceries for us," He announced and then clapped his hands together, "but now I don't feel like cooking so, do you ladies want to get something to eat at the lodge?"

Both Rebecca and I agreed and the three of us headed downstairs to get our shoes on.

"I'm sure it's nothing, stop worrying about it," Rebecca whispered to me with a reassuring smile, but I knew Rebecca well enough to know when she was lying.
