《Azurlane: Future Prosperity》Chapter 16: Sakaichi

Mirai readied her sword, her stance was calm and opened for an enemy strike. She stood menacingly like an esteemed sword saint watching for the opponent's next move.
The Odachi is not good as a weapon for a duel like this, Mirai needs to be a little more taller for it to work with her style. That said, Mirai had an advantage of range against even the toughest boss.
"My fears..." Mirai mumbles. Her hand relaxed and lets the tip of her handle slip through her fingers.
Just then, Apex made her move, slipping through the gap and unreadied stance she prepared to pierce into Mirai's abdomen.
However that was not meant to be. Mirai had baited Apex into this position, by dropping the Odachi she made the perfect momentum for a upward slice that is sure to cut her in half.
Again both attacks did not work due to Apex's quick reaction time. So if Mirai had to take Apex down she has to do it properly.
'Damn it. If this was a Katana her head would've flopped from the beggining.' Mirai curses.
"Quite slow." A wide grin showing her teeth confronted Mirai.
Though remaining unprovoke, for the first time she had swung her sword, Mirai felt fear. She didn't know why, because she started someone like a person who gives less of a fuck to anything.
So now... why did she returned? Wasn't her wish to die an honorable death? So why wasn't she excited? Those questions remained in Mirai's heart had finaly surfaced.
For Mirai it did not feel like she was controlling her own destiny, she made decisions that completely went against her mindsets. It felt like she was a puppet.
Mirai's view darkened her whole world was surrounded by what she had done. From the past and the present.
Mirai a ship that had caused atrocities between her enemies be it civilians or incapable/wounded combatants. There were many times she was tried for crimes but nearly all her sisters that has been felled either by her or an enemy took the blame.
The war had shaped her to hate, and let go of her attachments. But even still there was still a ray of hope, always have, her Mentor, JDS Hiyo former carrier flagship of the Maritime SDF had thaught her to be calm and control her emotions not to forsake it.
There was a time she had forgotten she was at war due to her new path for peace. But fate had mocked her, taking the only person she had looked up to causing her to forget.
Forget the powerful teachings of her Master.
Ever since waking up the identity of Mirai to herself started progressively crumbling. She had said words she did not meant, and she had purposefully weakened herself against a 100 year old battleship (Kongo).
Now seeing what she had done right in her eyes did only Mirai finaly realized.
"I was... literally shattered glass..." she whisphers as the surroundings of her memory cracked.
A faint glow came across her sight and immediately Mirai raised her sword to block.
The sound of metal clashing cleared the darkened world for Mirai, and immediately after a surging ammount of pain ran across her body. As she looked down her clothes were ripped and her body was marked with claw marks.

No noise came out, only wincing in pain and gritting her teeth she placed the odachi by her shoulder and went for a downward strike.
Easily seeing through the attack Apex dodges to the side at the last moment and pressed her foot on the blade.
"Can I call this the Mikkiri counter?" Her smile bleamed with light.
Mirai then pulled a gun.

"Cavour!" Negev screams.
Negev had followed Cavour after she escorted the German Cruiser to a medical camp. However upon reports of casualties rising in the battle Negev sortied, and the first person she found was Cavour.
Blood dripping to the gaps of her armor, Cavour winces at the sight. She can easily tell she won't make it.
"I, a great knight would never let you pass!!!"
One after another, the pest kept coming in like they're the hero of a story. Honestly it's annoying, I just wanted to avenge my missing limbs ok? So move out of the way.
Cavour fell down sustaining injuries that she couldn't handle, Negev was cornered.
"As punishment for getting in my way!"
"Eee-!!" Negev was silenced and she slumped down sliding by a wall till she sat upon the pavement. Blood escapes through a gaping hole in her body.
The Frigate had my anger quelled. No in fact alot of ships I encountered are silencing the burning fury and desire to kill everyone in this place. But I'm still pissed that I can't find Mirai. Where has she ran off too? I went to the bell tower near where I fought with the American cruiser and German Pocket Battleship to get a better look.
As I reached the top. I caught sight of Mirai running to this direction. She hadn't seen me yet, it's best to observe before dramatically challenging her.
However from the glimpse of my eyes I saw a beautiful battle between my fellow seeker and JDS Sakae. At first I thought it was Mirai but it may as well have been never a surprise to see that level of skill. Easily she killed Nightmare, her figure was small but I could sense she was looking at this direction. No way she's looking at me.
Anyway Mirai, time to drop down. I know she can't run away, there's an admiral in the scene if she ran, she's forsaking her only remaining unbroken oath.

Mirai pointed her Ship's 5 Inch gun and fired a consecutive four shots point blank at Apex. It was too close to dodge so two rounds hit square into her abdomen.
Knocked away by such a powerful impact Apex step back shaking. Giving Mirai an instance of cutting her head, doing this gives her the chance of killing apex once and for all. Because no matter how many lives she has left, dying in real space will be permanent.
And just as the blade touched Apex's cheek a realm burst into the open wound and ate Mirai into the Mirror Sea.
***********
A change of Scenary from the retro town of Germany into a Mirror Sea, bathe in an endless storm of blood. Mirai could feel deep within her the fires of hate.
"Come, Apex."

From the opposite direction Apex walked slowly with a smile in her face.
The Blood from the rain ran through Apex's veins then came out of her fingertips, but as if defying the laws of gravity the crimson liquid formed into a weapon in Apex's hands. A scythe, from appearance alone it could change from a farm scythe in a matter of seconds into a war scythe.
The blade that made up the sillouthe of the scythe fell colorless into the sea. however the weapon remained, now a fully metalic scythe Apex willed it as a war scythe and charged Mirai.
Mirai stood still waiting for that chance. Which eventualy came, she stepped forwards the attack missing her and then she used her foot to plant the tip of the scythe into to the sea.
This was the Mikkiri Counter, where the momentum of an enemy thrusting a stab weapon like a spear is redirected to the ground and it's greatest combination was the Shinigami's Stare in which the one performing the action stares directly into the eyes of her future victim with no remorse only complete malice.
"S..s-shit!" Apex was taken aback by Mirai's intimidating presence and tried to break off her war scythe.
However she couldn't let go of the blade as if something were forcing her to keep it. Mirai before Apex could even retaliate or fall back slid her foot and in addition the scythe forwards of Apex making her trip to the blood colored sea.
Apex knew she's screwed and at that following moment a sword stabbed her back. Blood spurted out as her heart was pierced.
Death embraced Apex however soon she stood up like nothing had happened. But the desperation in her eyes was clear, she had lost another life, 2 remained while that can be enough to someone much higher than her to deal with Mirai but Apex knew she won't be comig out alive if she so fails.
Focusing all her will power, she converted the War scythe into a delicate sword spear, the Tip of the spear was the blade of a dao and to accomodate the weight she used a heavy focused metal rod as base.
Apex didn't take the offensive this time and instead walked sideways into Mirai's view. Mirai stood her ground still keeping an eye on Apex, she contemplates about her life at that moment.
The deeper her thoughts go the more distracted she became. Regrets piled up and sorrow descended, will it ever end?
"Stuck in the past. Afraid of the future, it's funny and ironic. To be christened with the name "Mirai"."
"The fuck are you blabbering about?!"
Apex angrily shouts, she twisted her heels and spun with her weapon using a great momentum.
Mirai on the other hand timed her deflections using a counter force to decrease the damage to her posture.
Seeing that it wasn't going anywhere, Apex pointed her Sword Spear into the sky. With such an oppurtunity Mirai prepares to strike for a heavy attack, however that was dismissed with Apex's drop kick.
Caught by surprise Mirai tooks the full hit throwing her across the sea. Losing her stature Mirai slowly stood up, not giving her time to breathe the crimson rain of blood turned sharper at Mirai's direction. Cutting away into her skin but regardless she ignore the impulsive desire to scream out in pain.
Blood seeped into her white clothes staining it into a horifying sight. Faced with a certainty of death Mirai forced a smile.
"This is what I wanted.."
She says regretfully, tears poured from her eyes. Her teeth showed her fake beaming joy.
"Aren't you afraid that I'll kill your remaining sister if you die here?"
Apex asked with a bitter taste in her mouth. She glared at Mirai trying to provoke her into madness.
"Yes... I'm afraid. But ever since the beggining she was always better than me."
That surprised apex but she remained unfazed and lets Mirai continue.
"When we spar I always win, but I could tell from how she used her blade she always held back."
"Tch. I've been trying to take the wrong fish. You're nothing more than just a broken woman, it's a great shame. I had fun fighting you."
"Indeed." Mirai stood up, her body from her wounds are trying to push her down but she perserveared.
"A goodbye, my dear Rival."
The Sword Spear Apex used morpged into a Katana. With both hands on the grip she copied Mirai's stance.
Only the sound of rain water could be heard in the mirror seas. With one step and a draw of the sword Mirai fell.
The rain ceased, and the Mirror sea opened once again. Apex left Mirai's body alone.

Clang!
Tin!!
Schlick-
"AARGh-"
The dying voice of a Siren Elite seeker was the first to pierce Apex's ears. And quickly as she looked behind she saw JS Sakae holding a Katana that had it's guard directly to the neck of said Elite Seeker.
The blue blood of the seeker spurred erraticaly in every direction, the kinetic force to kick that ammount of blood had to be powerful.
Soon as Apex's heel touched the ground, Sakae's eyes which had turned into a shining bright red light streaked into the side. Stiring the living shit out of Apex.
"....Mi... Mirai..." there was sadness in her voice which immediately turned into anger.
Gritted teeth her movements were too fast for even apex to comprehend, and as she catched up it was already too late. The blade swung fast, to the point it was unblockable.
Apex knowing it was an undeniable end. Wondered, why the sky was shattering into broken glass.

A change in scenary in contrast into a battle, at a calm wavy sea a Ship stranded at the middle of the Pacific Ocean sails across unknown waters. In the aft where the helideck can be found, a woman in a white and red uniform stares above the stars.
A petal of sakura's cherry blossom landed in her nose with more around a circle surrounding her body that moves by the wind as her as the epicenter.
".... What a terrible dream."
Mirai laughs as the horrifying realization soon approaches.

Many Minded
Synopsis: Issa Pyxis, Spacer orphan and illegal heretic, graduated from living on the streets to running with a gang years ago, but now it looks like that’s all going to change. Her inheritance, more specifically who—or what—she is, is catching up with her, and on a planet with the Emperor’s inquisitors slinking around in every shadow, nowhere is safe and no one can be trusted. What will she do? A cyberpunk story about identity, loneliness, covert infiltration, evil dystopias, and much more! Features: - Cyborgs and cyberpunk galore - This is indented to be somewhat “rational” and “hard” Sci-Fi story - Original Fiction however parts of my worldbuilding are inspired by other Sci-Fi stories (duh) Rationale: The future is cool, AIs are kickass, and questions about consciousness are simultaneously existential and yet unanswered. To me, this story is a vehicle for exploring these topics, and also, I wanted to write a story where the protagonist was unafraid of themselves and where their self is more like a git-repo than a meat computer. Disclaimer: This story primarily takes place in what we’d describe as a “cyberpunk dystopia” with some extra technocracy, autocracy, and religious fervor thrown into the mix, so there will be some “grittiness” in this story. Caveat emptor. Also, [insert your favorite boilerplate “views expressed” disclaimer here]. I shouldn’t need to say this, but the main character and other characters in my story can be wrong on occasion (gasp!) and the way they view the world isn’t always objective truth (if such a thing even exists) nor do their views and opinions necessarily reflect the views of me, the author.
