《Hedonia the Arcane Utopia (LitRPG)》Chapter 157 - Bad acting.

“What the hell?!” Emilia shouted. “What’s going on? Why did he break our barrier? We’ll be defenseless now!”
“Just play along.” Lunaris whispered. She trusted James completely, and it was obvious that he had some sort of weird plan.
She had no idea what his plan actually was, but she didn’t doubt him for a second. If James decided to do something, they had to do their best to help him. He definitely had a good reason for it.
But regardless if he had a good reason or not, they all felt naked now. They could erect new barriers, but it would be nothing compared to the one James had infused his own mana into. The leader could probably just crack any barriers they put up in a second.
They trusted James, but they couldn’t help but feel a little bit panicked. However, just as they were scrambling to put up some defenses, they felt James’s [Chaotic Healing] buffing them.
The feeling was familiar, but it was so much stronger than before.
James’s ‘sacrifices’ were sacrifices in name only at this point. It cost him nothing. And so he applied several instances of [Chaotic Healing] on each and every single one of them.
Even as his head without a body was flying through the air, cracking their barrier, he was thinking about their safety.
With several stacks of the buff upon them, the group was zooming around the battlefield. Even Denmac, the slowest of the group, was running circles around the leader.
They felt stronger than they’ve ever felt in their lives. It was almost like a drug, they felt like they could crush the whole planet with their bare hands.
But even as they were feeling unstoppable, they had to act scared and panicked. Just as James was.

“Oh my god, no! I cracked the barrier! We’re all defenseless now, we’re so exposed!” James shouted in a fake panic.
The leader was furiously slashing at James’s disembodied head. But every time he got close, SARM would propel James out of the way.
“If I can’t get to you, I’ll just get to one of your friends.” He turned around and rushed towards Helios.
Even though the leader was no slouch, James had pumped his friends full of his so-called healing, which was basically just a huge buff to their speed and power. Every time the leader swung his sword, Helios was already several feet away.
He turned around and tried to attack Lunaris, but she was just as fast.
The leader slashed towards the dwarves, Emilia, and finally even Denmac. But he couldn’t land a hit on any of them.
They dutifully played their part, acting as if they were terrified.
“My spells are doing nothing!” Helios shouted while throwing fireballs at the enemy. “His attacks are deadly, yet mine don’t even tickle him!” They were all laying it on pretty thick.
Despite their convincing performance, they were actually quite safe. The leader was indeed strong, and they really couldn’t damage him at all. But with James’s buffs, they were fast enough to completely avoid the attacks.
“That is impressive, my friends are still alive!” James shouted. “Even without the barrier, they are strong enough to survive! But still, the situation is very dangerous! If just one more enemy appeared, we’d all be dead for sure! I sure hope nobody else attacks us!”
The time for subtlety was over. James had let himself get butchered, just so he could lure out the stalkers. And he had even destroyed the barrier that his friends were hiding behind, to further increase the danger of the situation, even though he could’ve killed the enemy with a snap of his fingers. Well, metaphorical fingers. He didn’t have any at the moment.

And still, despite the theatrics, the stalkers just wouldn’t come out. This was as vulnerable as he could get. He was literally a head, and his friends were out in the open without a barrier. If the stalkers didn’t pop out now, they never would. It’s not like he could become even more vulnerable, there was nothing left for him to lose.
He could just stick to the old plan and keep pillaging cities until somebody does show up.
But that didn’t sit well with him. He felt watched, followed. Even though he was feeling nigh invincible, that wasn’t something he could allow. Especially since he had his friends with him.
The longer they were followed, the more the stalkers learned about their powers. And the more time they had to form a strategy.
And if he were in their place, James would go after the weaker ones first.
Meaning if these stalkers were any good at assassination, his friends were in danger. It was the reason he made them such a strong barrier in the first place.
But now, even with the barrier destroyed, the stalkers still didn’t intervene. Even with him as just a head, and his barrier-less friends running circles around the leader, the stalkers waited patiently.
There was nothing else he could really do.
But that was unacceptable. He didn’t want to risk his friends getting sniped while he was pillaging the next cities. He went so far as to expose them now just to prevent any danger when he wouldn’t have the chance to be as vigilant as he was at this moment.
But finesse and acting hadn’t worked. Subtlety and cunning really wasn’t his strong suit.
Then he understood that he has to do something less subtle. A lot less subtle.
It was a longshot, but unlike his previous plan, this one appealed to his strengths.
Oddly enough, he felt the need for a villainous monologue at that moment. He wanted to cackle and clap, and reveal his plan in a long speech before the climax of the battle. He had mocked his foes repeatedly for this, but now he understood why the did it. It was an exhilarating, almost irresistible urge to boast about your devilish idea while your foe had to stand there and listen to it before their inevitable demise.
But he wasn’t about to repeat the mistake of all those villains. No, as just a head on the ground, he had the element of surprise on his side. And he’d take full advantage of it.

Take Two!
College student majoring in botany has a fateful encounter with truck-kun while trying to get back in shape after realizing that his freshman 15 turned into the sophomore 20, and then the junior 30. After going through a very amusing(to some) hell, he gets the chance to transmigrate into a body of his own design on a magical world. Playing to his strengths, he chose the Plantkin race, and the new name of Sorrel to match. This is a slow-paced, magical, slice-of-life story with a focus on relationships. There will be sex(I'll try to keep the explicit stuff to a minimum, but it will be there), swearing, really bad jokes, and enough food to spoil your diet. There will not be a lot of action, epic quests to save the world, or anything even remotely resembling a big-bad-evil-guy(a few smaller bad guys, sure. But, no BBEG). Note: This is a re-write of my first story "Congratulations, You're Dead!". And, is much more what I wish I had written in the first place. The characters and the world are very similar, with a few key differences. The story may borrow some elements from Congrats, but should be considered as its own work. Reading Congrats first is not needed, or even reccommended, not unless you want to see some really cringey romance in the early chapters.

Welcome to Devos
Welcome to a world where humor, drama, and action clash in epic tales spanning a vast continent....Welcome to Devos An anime styled medieval fantasy world featuring heroes, gods, and demons in a grounded and story/character focused series. A world where the gods of power bestow elemental abilities on those they find worthy. Welcome to Devos is broken up into parts, each part is more or less a complete story that expands the world, characters, and kingdoms of Devos. It plays out a lot like Game of Thrones where instead of a lead character you have an entire cast, each one getting plenty of time to develop over the course of the series. It is a relatively grounded, character and story-driven adventure that focuses on people of interest and their relationships with each other, their nations, and the eight gods of power. While the story features a good blend of light and dark themes it can get really grim at times. The continent of Devos is comprised of 5 territories, they include the three kingdoms of Verdun, Ashmir, and Vespa along with the territories of two demon lords to the north and south. The time period and setting are basically what you would find in a fantasy anime. There are eight gods of power which wield eight different elements and have the ability to "bless" individuals with certain abilities. Monsters roam the wilderness and the ruins/dungeons that are scattered throughout the landscape. Adventurers complete quests, hunt monsters, and explore the vast continent. We've got heroes, demon lords, gods, spys, special operations assault teams, phantom eagles, kings & queens, cursed chickens, talking goblins, and a whole shit ton more already in with plenty more coming soon.

The Novel's Extra's Extra
As a reader, Cristopher always looked for things that entertained him, didn't matter what the "critics" said, all that matters was his own opinion on the novel, so he started reading "The Novel's Extra", a webnovel that despicts an author who is transmigrated to his own novel. It was fun and all with its own good and bad points, really, one of his favorites novels at the end of the journey, and that's taking into account the little fact that he didn't have too many things he was able to enjoy, not in that empty shell that was called life for him... Why could someone be born like that? With a void inside, an endless void that slowly consumes oneself... But... for better or worse... everything changed one day, the same day he woke up to discover he had the same faith of the author whose novel he just finished reading, becoming an extra in a novel, becoming The novel's extra's extra... /Ok, now that's the description I thought of... first of all, for those of you who are reading this, if any, a few points I have to make clear: 1. I'm not an english native speaker, so if you find anything wrong in the text, please let me know, that would help me learn, and I would be thankful for that.2. I'm writting this out of pure "enjoyment", so while I'll try to be constant, I'll not make any promises.3. True reason why I'm writing this is because I'm going through a moderate to crippling depression right now (and no, is not because anything trully bad and horrendous happened to me, it seems to have something to do with my brain's malfuctioning, among other things), and doctors told me to try writing as I enjoy reading. So yeah, this is more like a self-help excercise, to keep myself distracted while trying to be safe from my self.4. I choose to make a fanfiction of "The Novel's Extra" as I don't trully know how to write, and because I really loved that webnovel, though there are some points I didn't particulary liked.5. If you see some (let's be clear, really much) self insertion on this series, well, that may be me trying to escape reality, to which I make an early warning and disclaimer, and also ask for forgiveness, as I said before, this is more of an excercise, so don't take it too serious.6. I'll be a slow writer, as I have to still check a few things from the novel, even when I've read it like 3 or 4 times already, and because I know shit about writing a novel or a series.7. If you get to enjoy this, then that's good, I would be glad about it, maybe even more motivated, but I don't really expect this to be any good. Thanks to you all who may, or may not, be reading this novel./
