“Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to get through this thing called Life,” Lily said.
“Uh hum.”
“Right. Sorry elder,” Lily said.
“Aww. Elder I like that song,” April whined. Trillium glared at the younger pixie. April grinned in return. The glare turned into a grin.
“Continue child,” Trillium said.
“Yes Elder,” Lily replied. She cleared her throat. “Let’s try this again.”
“I should have been the priest,” May muttered.
“Hush!” Trillium said as she and the other pixies glared at May. The younger pixie fell silent.
“Dearly beloved we are gathered here today to witness and celebrate the joining of Isabella Almas and Willow in holy matrimony,” Lily said. Izzy’s eyes widened in alarm while Willow beamed. “Willow, you’re literally starting to glow.”
“Oh! Sorry about that,” the pixie apologized. The glow faded away a few seconds later.
“What is going on?” a concerned Isabella asked.
“Our wedding!” Willow excitedly answered. She spun in a circle. I even have on my wedding dress!”
“How did that happen?” Izzy asked.
“Pixie magic,” I answered.
“And our what?” Izzy asked in confusion.
“Just go with it,” Yam and May said at the same time.
“I think I might have to sample the honey mead,” I muttered as I fought to keep the smile off my face.
“We have mead?” Izzy asked.
“Stop interrupting my ceremony! And that mead is already promised to the tavern,” Lily hissed. “Besides, you’re both too young to drink legally.”
“Lily, that was true a long time ago,” Willow pointed out.
“And only in certain countries,” Trillium added. “Some such as Germany allowed drinking beer and wine at 16.”
“Couldn’t kids drink at 14 with their parents?” April asked.

“Yes,” Trillium replied. “So, Jase and Isabella could drink mead.”
“Excuse me!” Lily bellowed. Everyone turned back to my familiar. I stifled a laugh. She smiled as she felt my humor over our bond. The other pixies giggled, and Lily wiped the smile from her face. Lily suddenly looked slightly confused and angry. I could tell she was neither. “You guys made me forget where I was!”
“I’ll take things from here,” Trillium said.
“Ok! Have fun!” Lily replied. She ripped off the cassock and instantly appeared in her fall getup. My familiar exaggeratedly wiped her brow and flew to me landing on my shoulder before saying, “Whew! That’s much better.”
“You did great,” I assured my pixie.
“You really did,” Yam agreed as May and April nodded in agreement.
“Is all this necessary?” Izzy asked.
“Yep!” Willow replied.
“It’s part of having a pixie in your life,” I said.
“Ahem,” Trillium said.
“Sorry Elder,” I replied.
“I’m sorry,” Lily said.
“Me too,” Yam added.
“Me three,” Willow said.
“Me four,” April said.
“Me five,” May said.
Izzy didn’t say anything, and the pixies turned disapproving looks on her.
“Uh…I’m sorry too.”
“Don’t be sorry. Be quiet!” Trillium said.
“Sorry Elder,” the pixies and I replied. The pixies, including Trillium, all giggled. I laughed.
“Is it too late to change my mind about this?” Izzy asked.
“Yes!” Willow replied.
“Don’t get cold feet now,” Lily said.
“That’s Willow’s job. She’ll stick her cold feet to you while you sleep!” Yam said.
“Hey! You promised not to tell her that,” Willow objected. Yam shrugged.
“That’s it, we’re going with the short, short version!” Trillium said. The pixies giggled. The elder looked at Willow. “Do you?”

“Yes!” Willow answered.
“Do you?” Trillium asked Isabella.
“Well…I…,” my apprentice stammered. Willow frowned at her. “Yes!”
“Good! You’re married! Kiss her!” Trillium said. The other pixies cheered and threw confetti and cheered as Willow flew up and kissed Isabella on the lips.
“Where did the confetti come from?” I asked as Trillium smiled at the newly bonded pair.
“We don’t have rice, so we made do,” Lily confided in me.
“Ah. So, who’s going to clean up this mess?” I asked.
“Um…”
“If you guys want sweets…”
“That’s dirty Jase,” Lily replied. “And blackmail.”
I shrugged. “I didn’t make the mess.”
“True. We’ll clean it up,” Lily promised me. “Let’s greet the new couple in the meantime!”
“Sure,” I agreed. “Do you have to call them a couple?”
“What do you think?” Lily asked, giving me a grin. I smiled back.

NEWDIE STEADSLAW Part I
NEWDIE STEADSLAW is a randomized array of Chekhov's red herrings, non sequitors ex machina, run-on sentences, and em dashes—so many em dashes. It's like if the Bible and Shakespeare had a baby that they surrendered to foster care, then it got adopted by Alice in Wonderland and Dr. Seuss—the books, not the people—and then the baby fell down the stairs. In this metaphor, the stairs wrote the story. Part I is the tale of the adventures of Traycup and Roby as they try to hold down a job inside the hollow Earth—a place made possible thanks to the secret science of embargoed relativity—and they get distracted by dancing foxes, a giant's record collection, and something with a train, I think. It's a work of fiction—although to call it work seems insulting to, y'know, actual work—but the fiction label is apt, so, y'know, that's a win. Half the words are made up, and the other half are embarrassed to be seen with them. Part I is complete.
