Kit managed to attack first, slashing with his dagger but only achieving a scratch on the Fiendling's arm. The Fiendling quickly responded with a powerful kick hitting Kit at his stomach, seeing what just happened, El decided to attack, El knows he cannot give a powerful attack to knock down the enemy in front of them so he ran forward and grabbed the stranger’s left leg to make him an easier target pinning the enemy for Kit’s attack.
Kit can feel a burning sensation in his stomach, nevertheless he got up and slashed again at the stranger, this time he managed to gash deeper…. Blood slashes across the shady room. The Fiendling’s right leg is now bleeding from Kit’s attack making him angrier, The Fiendling had enough of this foolish façade and pulled out his own dagger and tried to strike El who is the easier target however Kit shielded him in the nick of time with his dagger.
Blood with sweat is dripping from both of them, heavy breathing sounds, a stand of endurance between the three, El holding the left leg of the enemy, Kit shielding El with his dagger and The Fiendling with a dagger at hand trying to land his strike at El. A few seconds had passed but for them it feels like hours, still no words have been spoken but they all understand what will happen if they failed this endeavor.
To El and Kit’s horror, they hear the sound of an opening door, if the other stranger comes inside the room now they are doomed. “I can’t hold much longer if it’s the other one…, we’re dead.” El thought. Tragedy strikes the two, it is the other stranger and it looks like he will join the fray. The stranger pulls out his own dagger and closes the door shut, slowly walking towards the three people locked in together. “You are so weak, defeated by two kids Vaniere…” The other Stranger bragged, he then proceeds to kick El’s side. The kick is so strong it knocks him back to the walls. Vaniere the Fiendling repeats the other stranger's action however he kicks Kit in his stomach, making Kit lose consciousness for a few seconds. “Stupid kids! You’re just lucky you landed a hit, and what took you so long Don?” Vaniere stepped his left foot on Kit’s agonizing body, while Don proceeded to go near El then grabbing his head like a hawk clutching its prey. The two continue their conversation like nothing happened. “Who the hell is that urchin and how did he manage to get in here?” Don asked with an irritated tone. “I don’t know, what I know is he’s going to die painfully” replied Vanniere gleefully.

The two hoodlums’ starts torturing the two; Vaniere keeps kicking Kit while Don punches El in his stomach. El feels throwing up as Don’s fist hits his stomach, but he endures as he sees Kit still trying to fight back by grabbing Vaniere’s foot even though he keeps failing to stop it. This process repeated several times and then. “Enough of this playing! Let’s call the boss and kill that urchin” Don shouted. Hearing those words, El begins to panic as his new found friend no, his only friend will die because of him, with that on his mind, he musters all his strength to fight back and then an idea pops up. El is a student of the arcane, but not like any other student, he is better, he is known as a young wizard that can cast even without a spell book nearby. El begins to think deeper about his memories; he needs a spell that he can cast and most importantly a spell strong enough to help them in their predicament. After silently muttering the spell, a booming sound blasts BOOOOM!
With a clap of his hand a red aura exploded around him, a powerful yet noisy spell, but with that spell, in El’s mind its like hitting two birds with one stone. Everyone was blown away by the powerful blast of energy from El’s spell, throwing all of them to the four corners of the gloomy room, except for El who casted the spell. Vaniere smashed through the empty crates, was shocked on what has transcribed, tries to get up and starts figuring out what just happened, looking around the room, in his right he sees his comrade also been blasted away but through the table which broke into pieces, in his left the urchin has also been thrown away by the mystic force slam into the wall then to his surprise, the kid who they kidnapped was still in his position unmoved for even an inch. The hair in the back of his neck started standing up as he realized who made the powerful blasted of energy. “He can use magic!” That is the answer he concluded in his mind, he decided he needs to knock this kid down fast or they will lose this fight. The situation suddenly shifted, the composed bandits suddenly became the panic ones. “Get up Don! The spoiled brat did it!” shouted by Vanniere in panic completely forgotten the other kid. Don was pulled back into reality thanks to Vanniere’s shout; he immediately scanned the room to look for the spoiled brat that they kidnapped. There in the middle of the room where they were all, he saw the kid's shocked face. “he must be terrified now that we know he’s the one who did it” Don said to himself, but as he finishes his thought he sees the kids expression change immediately from a terrified pup to a wolf ready to bite, without a second thought he threw his dagger with an intention to kill, then he realized what he did and suddenly felt regret. “Fuck! We are supposed to catch him alive” Don mutters to his own thoughts as the dagger leaves his hand straight to the kids face.

Hearing the shout of the fiendling, El realizes his predicament, his advantage dissipates and he needs to cast another spell immediately or Kit’s pain would be wasted. He recollected his thoughts and began focusing on his magic ring given by his brother, casting another spell then suddenly a dagger is hurtling towards him. Clang! A sound of metal to metal hitting each other suddenly rings around the room. Don’s dismayed feeling changed rapidly to surprise, then impressed, then to the feeling that he’s being challenged as he sees a translucent blue shield appear in front of the spoiled brat he just threw a dagger with.
El’s quick thinking saved himself from his impending doom, with just a split second he managed to change his incantation of evocation to abjuration with ease. El’s talent for magic is not just for show, he’s actually going to attend the prestigious school for wizards, the Gilsorths Institute of Arcane through a recommendation by one of the Circle members this coming summer.
As the magical blue shield dissipates into thin air, the Fiendling rushes towards El ignoring El’s magical capabilities and bets on his speed, withdrawing another dagger he readies himself for any spell El will throw but El is still trying to compose himself, seeing this brings a faint smile to the Fiendling but as he approached El, he felt a lighting fast tackle to his side pivoting him through the wall and almost knocking him unconscious. El is also surprised at what happened, the reason he did not cast another spell is because he already saw Kit darting on all fours prepared to ram like a bull the incoming danger in front of El. Another loud crash sounds and echoes from the room giving all of them a waking jolt to their exhausted consciousness. A minute later, Don without giving a second thought throws another dagger, however instead targeting El it's the urchin that tackled his comrade who is his real target. With quick thinking, El too casts another spell although not to attack but to protect his new found friend Kit however he is already exhausted by using two powerful spells even for him, so he decided to cast a weaker but effective spell. A translucent blue light appears wrapping Kit like an armor making the thrown dagger divert a little bit away to its target course saving Kit from a fatal blow receiving only a scratch to his left shoulder, making Don more and more agitated towards him.
Losing his patience, Don runs towards El as fast as he can and kicks El straight to his stomach, the kick was so powerful that it lifts El from the ground as if he’s been catapulted into the sky while Vanniere who’s not even fully recovered from Kit’s tackle, punches Kit straight to the face making the urchin lose consciousness for a minute. El after hitting the ground was lifted up by the furious bandit by his hair making him scream in agony. “You snotty brat! You can use magic huh? How about now?” Don said as he slaps El continuously. “That brat needs to be knocked out Don no more playing” said by Vanniere as he drags the unconscious Kit towards Don. “You’re the one who’s been playing, stop dragging that urchin and kill it already” Don replied as he continue to torture El with his powerful slaps. Vanniere hates being told what to do however Don is right he must stop playing around with the urchin and start readying his dagger, he positions himself on top of Kit and prepares to strike a deadly blow. “NOOOO!!!!!!!!!!” El screamed from the top of his lungs as he sees what is about to happen even though he feels he was about to lose consciousness he steels himself and begins to struggle. Then out of nowhere the closed wooden door bursts open with a deafening sound. A place that was supposed to be the door was destroyed breaking the wooden door in an unrecognizable pattern. In the wide opening of the destroyed door shines a bright light coming from outside, a silhouette of a towering man with what looks like a sword in his hand can be seen from the inside of the now lit room.

The year is 2152. Rune Yahui is a nineteen-year-old failure, not having gained entrance to college or the military, with no significant prospects in life. Even worse, Rune is the poorest of the poor, hailing from the mega-slums of New Southern Chicago, the lowest pit of America. In a stroke of rare luck, Rune is admitted into the program and happily submits himself to the surgery and digitization process. Unfortunately for him, he wakes up several hundred years later than he expected... or does he? **Author's Note** This isn't a type of story typical to RRL. You may have noticed LitRPG in the tags, but it's a relatively minor element in the story until later. You may also notice Slice of Life is in the tags. This story is going to be slow and there won't be any power tripping until way later if at all. The focus will be on character development. That doesn't mean I won't still have action/excitement, however. I encourage you to give the story a try. Maybe it will be your thing, maybe it won't. Thanks for even taking the time to read this, and if you do give my fiction a try, I hope you enjoy it. If you don't, well, I hope you find something that you do enjoy. Happy reading!
