Who’s to say the fun needs to stop with a trilogy? You heard that right, the Open Novella Contest is back for a fourth edition!
For fellow users who’ve returned from years past, welcome back. We are so glad to see familiar faces coming to this corner once again. For new users who’ve recently discovered this profile, we’re excited to see new friends join us on this writing journey!
Whether or not you’re a new or returning ONC writer continue reading further to learn more about the Open Novella Contest.
★ The Open Novella Contest is a collaborative project spanning different corners of the Ambassador-run profiles.
★ The Open Novella Contest has one goal in mind - encouraging Novella writing.
★ There is a slight change from last year’s ONC in which this year’s contest will be a total of 13 weeks from February 1st, 2021 to May 2nd, 2021.
★ This is a writing challenge unlike NaNoWriMo
Although NaNoWriMo is an extremely impressive feat to accomplish, for those with compact schedules the Open Novella Contest provides a wide berth in the writing timeline and a shorter word count goal.
★ Perfect opportunity to test out a new genre
Let’s be honest. We’ve all been there, wanting to delve into a new genre but not necessarily for a full-fledged novel. You can use ONC as a way to “test the waters” before you dive into the world of your new genre interest!

★ New Year’s Resolution or Personal Goals in mind
Perhaps you have New Year’s Resolution set in stone, or you’re wanting to escape from the writer’s block box, or simply to set a new personal goal for yourself!
★ Dust off the old ideas you shelved in the past
Whether it be an idea you shelved a week ago or an idea from the beginning of your Wattpad profile, this is as good a time as any to dust it off and bring it back to life.
★ You either missed out on the last ONC and/or have counted down the days until the next!
Look no further, in a few days time the Open Novella Contest will officially launch on (Eastern Standard Time) and you’ll be free to write your novella masterpiece!

This is my 3rd story on RoyalRoad, the other two having long since been dropped years ago. They were a mess of ideas and had no real substanence to them, leading me to begin hating writing them and eventually just stop writing altogether for about a year and a half. Finally, after reading hundreds of thousands of pages of novels, from low fantasy to sci-fi litrpg's to thousands of pages long xianxias, I finally feel ready to write a real story that isn't a cesspool of ideas blended together. I plan to see this out to the end, as I already have the first few major arcs planned out unlike my other stories where I thought of ideas as I wrote. This story takes place in a world with a litrpg system, as per tags. This isn't a VRMMO or Reincarnation story. The main character exists in and is from said world. There are some differences from other litrpg's which will be explained in author notes in the few few chapters. I plan to publich 6-7 chapters a week, each 2-3k words long. If i fail to do so I will create a back-log I have to eventually make up but as of writing this it's the summer for me so I'll have plenty of time to write.
