"What?!" Dad asks.
"I've been thinking about it for a while. I just didn't know how to tell you." I say.
I've finally found the nerve to say
"I know you don't believe in it but I do." I say.
I'm gonna make a change in my life
"Did she put you up to this?" Mom asks.
"No—" I say.
"She's trying to turn you, it's best you leave now while you still can." Dad says.
"She didn't "put me up to this." I'm doing this willingly, I love her so much." I say.
Starting here today
I surrender all my love
"We love each other too. We don't need a piece of paper to prove that." Mom says.
"Maybe the tradition is stupid." I say as mom walks away.
She turns around and hits me on the back of the head.
"Ow." I say.
"Don't let your ancestors down, Y/l/n." Mom says.
I sigh and she walks away.

I just think it's stupid. I've wanted to get married since I was a kid and I was told that I never would.

"In one year, this will be the day we got married." I say.
Next year lets call this day our anniversary

"It's fine." I say.
"Tommy will follow the rules." I say.
"He gotta find a girl first." Alexa says.
I laugh and Alexa smiles.
"I can't believe we're married. We're gonna spend the rest of our lives together." I say.

It will not be 'crunchy' (minimal action, minimal descriptions of powers/abilities) but instead be focusing on world building and political maneuvering. As a warning, it is fairly dark.
