《Fantastical Stapler》Chapter Kos: Downfall

A few days had passed and Kos was returning from a day of work. She seemed to be in a worse mood than usual.
Kos*: "Of course he was lying. I could tell by the look on his smug face."
She walked home and opened the door to find a mess. Not the usual mess she was used to, but an even worse one created by some fiend.
Kos: "What the?"
A sound could be heard from across the street.
???: "Thief! Someone broke into my House!"
A woman walked out of her apartment with terror on her face. She looked around but Kos was already gone. Kos checked every one of the apartments and only the ones owned by women seemed to be in bad shape.
Kos*: "Firil!"
She did not hesitate as she took off towards where Firil lived.
Kos*: "I'll catch that thief in the act!"
----
Firil was enjoying a nice stroll. She had just parted from Moris and was now making her way to her apartment. Noises could be heard from inside which caused her to panic. She swung the door open to find a masked man Rummaging through her belongings.
Firil: "What the-"
She dropped her briefcase as stomps came up the stairs.
Firil*: "No, is he-"
Her thought was cut short as Kos made her way up the stairs panting all the while. Firil finally snapped out of her stupor and readied a small wind revolution. The thief stopped and looked towards the girls.
Kos did not give him any time as she created a shadow clone and tried closing the distance between her and the thief. He effortlessly dodged all her moves. Kos cornered him near the kitchen sink and then proceeded to use a water revolution that brought out water from the tap to wet his clothes.
Thief: "Damn."
The thief started moving towards the window of Firil's apartment but before he could get away, he was hit with electricity that Firil had produced. This made him stagger a bit.
Thief: "Feisty. aren't you?"
He backed up to the balcony and jumped down.
Firil and Kos: "Wait!"
They rushed over to the balcony and looked down only to find nothing.
Kos: "You can't just survive a fall like that. He must've got caught on something."

Firil: "Who was that?"
Kos: "No idea but it seems he's been raiding women's apartments. Some sort of dedicated creep. Let's just report this and get it over with."
Firil looked back at her apartment. She noticed something odd.
Firil: "No, it doesn't seem like it. He didn't take anything that would make him a creep anyway."
Kos: "You sure about this?"
Firil walked back to the balcony and looked down.
Firil: "Yeah i think s-Hey!"
She focused on a bicycle that was moving down below. She picked up her phone and dialed a number.
Firil: "Stay right there, I need to talk to you. Come on, Kos, we have to get to the bottom of this."
Firil dragged Kos by the arm downstairs. They walked outside of the apartment building and were greeted by a familiar young Lyclan in delivery clothes.
Firil: "How are you, you little scamp?"
Lotin: "Come on, Firil, you swore you wouldn't call me that."
Kos: "You guys know each other?"
Firil: "I helped him out and now he helps me out with pizza."
Lotin: "Finest pizza in Sonh. You should try it Ma'am."
Kos: "Pass. Seems you just arrived. Did you see a man in black clothes running by?"
Lotin: "Sure, he ran past me. Seems like he was making his way to the slums."
Firil and Kos both had a realization and started running towards the slums, Lotin followed, confused as to what was going on.
Lotin: "Is he a bad guy or something?"
Kos: "Very bad. Stay here."
Lotin: "I can fight too!"
Firil: "He's not kidding."
Kos: "That sounds even worse for a child. Stay here!"
Lotin was forced to stay as Firil and Kos ran towards the slums. They ran everywhere in search of the thief but could not find anything.
Kos: "This is too weird. I don't hear any screams."
Firil: "Now that you mention it, yeah I don't either."
Firila and Kos noticed some people walking by. Firil composed herself and started walking towards them.
Firil: "Long time, no see. Shil."
Shil became so frightened but tried to remain calm in front of the others.
Shil: "What do you w-want?"
Firil: "You wouldn't happen to have noticed any people in black clothes recently, have you?"

Shil: "I don't do that anymore. I swear I didn't see anybody."
Firil: "Don't even try lying."
She readied an attack in her hand before Kos caught her arm.
Kos: "They're not lying."
Firil: "Fine, if you say so."
Lotin: "See, you needed my help."
Shil and his crew made their exit quickly as Lotin arrived on his bicycle.
Lotin: "If anyone around here was robbed, you'd hear it. Trust me."
Kos: "Look, what we're doing here isn't very safe so if you don't go back to what you were doing, I'll knock you sideways."
Lotin: "And I'm not some kid. I can tell you how a thief acts. Firil, can we go back to your apartment, I might be able to figure something out."
Firil: "As you wish, kiddo."
Kos: "B-Bu-arghh whatever."
----
They arrived back to the scene with relative ease. Lotin searched around for a bit while Kos and Firil watched him do his thing.
Kos*: "Even kids won't listen to me anymore. I'm great with kids!"
Lotin came back with an idea.
Lotin: "Well it seems like he was searching for something specific. Not just valuables but something that was important."
Firil: "And it seems like he was only going after women."
Kos: "Not poor women, at least."
Kos & Firil & Lotin: "Meaning..."
Firil: "Oh..."
Kos: "Do you have any idea, Firil?"
Firil: "I think I need to call someone. Unrelated."
She walked off with a worried expression on her face.
Kos*: "She's lying..."
Lotin: "So who are you?"
Kos: "Her coworker."
Lotin: "You must really care for her, huh?"
Kos: "Sure I do."
Kos*: "At least I wish i tried to."
Firil returned with a happy expression on her face.
Lotin: "So do you guys know of anyone else who could potentially be attacked by this guy?"
Kos: "Hmmm. Oh! Sherry!"
Firil smacks her head.
Firil: "Oh how could I forget about her!"
They frantically made their way over to the house of Sherry Colz, an employee of Syptomatics Incorporated.
They approached the house and could hear voices from inside as well as flashes that appeared to them. They ran towards the door to find Sherry on the ground with Sincan and Cervo tending to her.
Firil: "What are you doing here?!"
Sincan: "Was walking home when i saw her door open, Cervo was with me."
Cervo: "I'm going to go pursue the criminal. Stay here and tend to her!"
Cervo took off towards the exit and disappeared. A few minutes later, a police car was on the scene and the situation seemed to be resolved. Cervo gave his report as a Solik and Sincan did as well.
Firil: "Sure are lucky that Sincan was here, right?"
Kos: "Yup, sure are."
She stared at Sincan who was still talking to the officer.
Kos*: "I didn't expect Firil. Why would she do this? What's there to hide?"
Officer: "Well we seem to have a good description of the perpetrator so you people are free to go. Ma'am, anything to say?"
Sherry: "Not really."
Officer: "Okay then."
The officer hopped in his vehicle and drove off. Everyone seemed to go in their own direction except Firil and Sincan. Kos observed them from afar and couldn't figure out what they were saying. After a while she gave up and left. Sincan escorted Firil to her house and left after making sure he was safe.
He started walking down the stairs but before he could exit the building, a large man appeared.
Oxe: "You took care of a nuisance for us. Why didn't you tell them you knew the thief."
Sincan: "Because that's something you want to know."
Oxe: "And what do you want in return for that?"
Sincan: "Let me in on it. I get the password out of Firil and you give me a nice position as a CEO for one of your companies."
Oxe: "Or?"
Sincan: "Or i get the password and reveal it to the entire world and get a decent promotion anyway."
Oxe: "Don't try and threaten me."
They both stared at each other for a while before Oxe finally gave in.
Oxe: "Fine."
Sincan: "Good to know. How do I contact you?"
Oxe handed him a slip with his number on it and walked away. Firil was sleeping soundly in her bed while this all took place right under her nose.

The Designated: Out of Control
It happened quicker than anyone would have imagined. Multiple hurricanes were one thing. People had dealt with that in the past. But, like kids playing dominoes, one thing crashed into another. Areas affected by hurricanes needed resources all along the Gulf and East Coasts drew rescuers and resources away from other parts of the country. When wildfires lit up the Pacific coast and mid-west, those areas were already understaffed. Driven by hurricanes in the Pacific basin, uncontrolled wildfires burned through towns, destroying everything in their paths. Across the Pacific, Asia didn't escape. From the Philippines, across China, into Indochina, and Bangladesh and India. Typhoons and cyclones pounded the coasts and far inland. Widespread flooding forced millions from their homes and across international borders. Mexico was hit hard and thousands died in mudslides as Katia slammed into their East Coast. The refugees fled north and west. Rumours started that hundreds of thousands were headed for the US border. Instead of running out of steam in the southern US, several hurricanes tore up the eastern seaboard, devastating cities and renewing their strength before veering east across the Atlantic. Maria and Ophelia veered east and slammed into Europe, reaching as far as the Netherlands and Russia before finally dissipating. After that, too many weather stations were offline to provide any form of co-ordinated information or warnings. Wildfires in Portugal burned ahead of the storms, fanned by hurricane winds. They sparked wildfires leapfrogging across Europe, beyond any one country's ability to cope. Already uneasy from multiple terrorist attacks over the summer, anti-refugee groups seized the opportunity to stage protests across Europe. Some turned violent as they clashed with police forces. Several governments declared martial law to quell the rioting and enforce evacuations along the path of the storms. Rumour and speculation overwhelmed facts. Unrest spilled over into widespread violence. Then sickness broke out in the displaced populations. Within a matter of a dozen weeks, tens of millions died. In the coming winter months hundreds more would follow. The Designated Project was activated.

The Weaver's Burden (HIATUS)
Weavers... this lot has been synonymous with freaks at best, and devil worshipers at worst, since they were first found. Thankfully, they make up a negligible number of people, but they can still be incredibly dangerous. Oftentimes, they wind up killing themselves or others when their ability to perform magic begins to manifest, acting as a sort of natural culling process for weavers. However, this was well before the Republic of Sidia realized that the ability to manipulate reality can be reigned in, controlled. So if you had the chance to turn something dangerous into a weapon, why wouldn't you? This is what fate awaits a young man named Emmet. After his weaving manifests and blood is on his hands, he is given a choice: the gallows, or the Esphell Monastery. What awaits Emmet at the monastery? What is this magic, and how can he control it? What happens to weaver's once they are properly trained? And most importantly, will he survive long enough to have these questions answered?
