《Fantastical Stapler》Chapter 6: The Trip

A few days later Sincan was told that he'd be going on a business trip with Vanessa and Moris to a branch in the Gissal region. The office there had been suffering from problems for a few weeks now and they were low on staff.
Sincan: "It'll be a good way to make some connections I guess. I'm getting nowhere like this."
Moris: "Hey, started packing everything you need?"
Sincan: "Not like we need that much."
Vanessa: "Still, it's nice to be safe rather than sorry, Sincan."
Sincan was still trying to figure out a way to get past Kos finding out he had gone against her wishes. It seemed as though it was more trouble than it had been worth.
Sincan*: "I'll get the license and tell her i caught another one, that might be good enough."
----
He packed his stuff the next day and prepared to depart. Before leaving, he decided to practice the dominity martial arts exercises. Martial arts were more useful in this world due to the existence of wheels, which provided magic. Sincan had decided to learn the basics so that he could better defend himself in a fight.
He had to hurry to the train station because he was too busy doing the exercises. Arriving there, Moris and Vanessa greeted him. They were both dressed up in Jackets and sweaters because of the cold weather. Vanessa wore ear muffs while Moris had a scarf tied around his neck.
Moris: "Yo, Sincan. Did you oversleep?"
Sincan said while breathing heavily: "Just doing some exercises."
Vanessa: "Well, try to be more vigilant next time, okay?"
Sincan: "Got it boss."
They checked their luggage over one more time and made their way over to the Heavenly highway. It was a cliche name that was coined in the early medieval ages. It was found by an old king. A highly advanced highway that ran throughout the continents, connecting places all over the world.
They boarded the train and and made small talk on the way to Gissal. Passing by the mountains of Voster made even Sincan appreciate their natural beauty. Vanessa was too busy organizing files to pay attention to them and Moris seemed to have a stern look on his face as he kept fiddling with his smartphone.

After a couple of hours, Moris nudged Sincan and handed him a layafruit.
Sincan: "Thanks."
He grabbed the fruit and chewed on it, trying to make as deep of a hole as he could. He took a look at the fruit and stared at Moris.
Sincan: "5 layers, guess I'm the lucky one."
Moris: "As if. 6 Layers, beat that."
Sincan: "I admit defeat, O Layalord."
Moris: "Mortals shall never reach my greatness or charisma."
They had a chuckle and finished their layafruits. The image of Shuk Vinters came into Sincan's head. He had not seen him since the ceremony, but his anger had not calmed down. Every time he did something for fun, he would remember him.
----
It was around day that they finally arrived at the Gissal Station. They took their belongings and went through the wheel checks. After finding no dangerous wheels, they made their way over to the hotel they would be staying at. It was an average hotel with acceptable amenities.
Vanessa: "Unpack your stuff and get ready in an hour, we have to start working right away."
Moris: "Aww come on, can't we enjoy the sights first?"
Vanessa glared: "Moris, it's called a BUSINESS trip for a reason."
Moris sighed: "Alright boss..."
Sincan*: "Better to make a good first impression by going soon anyway."
So they put their belongings in their place. They would be staying in this hotel for about 5 days while trying to help the Southern Kom-Kich company's Gissal Branch.
Moris hesitated a little before tossing Sincan a bracelet.
Moris: "Catch!"
Sincan wasn't much of a catcher so he fiddled a little before grabbing it. It was the wind magic bracelet that always seemed to end up in his hands.
Sincan: "Why did you bring this?"
Moris: "The boss said the crime rate in the city's been pretty high lately. So use that if you ever need it."
Sincan appreciated the gesture and put it in his pockets.
----
Vanessa arrived an hour later to take Sincan and Moris to the office. They made their way north through a taxi. They passed by a closed grocery store on the way there which was filled with stray animals. Arriving at the office, they noticed the buildings around town were in bad shape. Broken windows, stray cats and dogs and Garbage everywhere.

Vanessa*: "Worse than I thought it'd be."
Moris*: "Sheesh, would it kill them to care."
Sincan was too focused on the office building to notice the decrepit state of the neighborhood around them. They made their way into the office where about 3 people were working. A Derlin was taking phone calls and seemed to be extremely tired. He hung up on the call he was currently taking and made his way over there to greet the guests.
Manager: "How are you fellas doing? I sure hope the trip wasn't too much of a hassle."
Vanessa: "We're fine Cosja but you look worse for wear."
Cosja: "Do I? I guess it's just the stress getting to me. Hopefully with you around it'll lighten my load. How are you boys though?"
Moris: "Nice to meet you, sir. I'm Moris and this here is Sincan."
Sincan: "Hello there."
Cosja took them to a part of the office that was clean and sat them down before explaining.
Cosja: "You didn't encounter any thugs of the sort while coming here did you?"
Vanessa: "Not at all. I've heard there's been an uptick in the crime rate, though."
Cosja: "It's because of the gangs. Those kids didn't used to be so bad but now they've started going too far. Vandalism, Theft and the like. It's had an affect on the workers and now they're too damn scared to even come to work."
Vanessa: "Why not let them work from home?"
Cosja: "Can't do that. Government is slow on the modernizing aspect."
Vanessa: "I see. Well, I'll focus on the budgeting while Sincan and Moris deal with the workers' safety."
Cosja: "Thanks, Vanessa. You always were the ideal manager."
Vanessa accepts the praise and starts working on the office while sending Sincan and Moris to visit the workers. The workers were spread pretty far out around the office. Sincan and Moris visited the one closest to the office.
----
They knocked on the door to the apartment the worker was living in. Out came a Scalin woman, between Moris and Sincan's size.
Sincan: "Hi, we're workers from the Southern Kom-Kich company. Are you Miss Cerad?"
Moris*: "Should have brought Kos along for this."
Woman: "Yes, I am Lori Cerad. Did Cosja send you?"
Moris: "Yeah we wanted to check up on you because you weren't arriving for work?"
Lori: "You could've just called."
Moris: "We also want to fix the problem though."
Lori: "I think that's more the police's job."
Sincan: "Well from what we've heard, they're really busy right now."
Lori: "Fair enough, come on in."
She took them into her apartment so that they could talk.
Lori: "It's those gangs that are the problem. They stop us from going to work, threaten us, that stuff."
Moris*: "What a bunch of assholes."
Sincan: "Why though?"
Lori: "No idea, it's a bunch of college students or high school students messing with us."
Sincan: "What about other companies?"
Lori: "That's the weird part, it seems to only be us they're targeting."
Moris whispers to Sincan: "Maybe it's some other company trying to get rid of competition."
Sincan: "Could be. Let's not rule out other possibilities though."
Lori: "I just want my job back. Cosja's a great manager and I heard he's been working himself to death."
Sincan gets an idea in his head. One that could possibly work.
Sincan: "I think we could help. We just need to catch them in the act. We get evidence, the cops get to jail them and you can go back to work."
Lori: "Are you sure that would work?"
Moris: "Yeah Sincan, I'd rather not put her in any danger."
Sincan: "Don't worry. We'll be there and we can handle some kids."
Their plan was formulated and they would put it into action the next day.

This Used to be About Dungeons
This Used to be About Dungeons is a comfy slice-of-life adventuring story that occasionally features dungeons. Updates Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Mostly it's about walking in the woods with a friend, looking for mushrooms to put in your soup, or haggling with the guy selling squash, or taking care of a neglected garden. It's putting some jam on shortbread biscuits. And yes, sometimes you go down into the dungeons with your friends, and you kill monsters there, or disarm traps, but when you come out, you realize you've found the perfect magic item to give to one of the local kids that helped you out when your cat was sick. Look, the dungeons are always going to be there, and sometimes you need to make a journey to one of the Spirit Gates, or make a pilgrimage with the local Cleric of Symmetry to a holy shrine. Your tour through the local dungeons can wait. You'll have rivalries with other groups, and find some dungeon eggs that need to be carefully incubated in case they turn out to be something valuable, and help a friend to build a fishing weir. There's a big world out there, a mostly tame place with lots of magic, and even more to do and see. Join me, won't you?The cover image is Morning Sunlight Effect, Eragny, by Camille Pissarro.

Trial of Champions
It all began with a family trip to an amusement park. How were any of us to expect being transported from Earth to participate in some "Trial of Champions," whatever that was supposed to be? Given only an hour to choose the Classes that would come to define our strengths, we were almost immediately torn away from one another and thrust into a deadly game of survival. It wasn't all bad, though, as terrifying as it could be from time to time. The supernatural and magical powers of the Classes were like something out of an RPG, complete with leveling up by killing monsters and completing so-called "Sub-Trials." And despite the juicy Experience to be gained from killing other Champion Contestants, not all of the participants were bloodthirsty murderers; some could be allied with, or even befriended. Even if it seemed like everyone who had been chosen for this Trial, no matter what universe they came from, was at least a little bit crazy. I would survive this till the end, and I'd make sure that my siblings and parents did as well, no matter how many times we were separated from one another. No matter how long it took. No matter what I had to do. --- A first-person litRPG incorporating classes inspired by D&D and other sources. If you like blue boxes but don't need to have huge lists of numbers to scratch your itch, you should be satisfied on that front. Each chapter is, in my word processing document, seven pages long (approximately 3300-3900 words). The Traumatizing Content warning is there because of discussions of certain topics. Nothing that I think deserves the warning actually happens in the story.
