Chapter 682: 682
Chapter 682: Purple Thunder Needle
If it was the heaven weaving spider that emerges from the cave, the formation wouldn’t attack it. Instead, Miao Yan Zhenren and the others would send a fragment of their psyches to greet the creature, to validate their existence to this ‘Shenjun’ and befriend it.
Lin Jin had to admit, the immortals had thought it through. He had nothing else to say to them.
He leaned towards the possibility of Yan Shenjun being dead. In the future, Lin Jin might return to the cave just to clarify what Yan Shenjun was looking for down there.
This was on the condition that Xiao Huo achieves Rank 8. Before that happened, Lin Jin couldn’t afford to take that risk.
After the three profound immortals set up the formation, the group started their journey back. They wouldn’t be using the Cosmic Ink this time because Lin Jin had to pay quite a heavy price for each teleportation. Due to the large size of their party, Miao Yan Zhenren produced a magic flying tool that belonged to the Mystery Dao Sect.
A Thousand Mile Flying Boat!
This was one of the few premium immortal treasures the Mystery Dao Sect possessed. Miao Yan Zhenren couldn’t bring himself to use it on most days, but he decided to make an exception this time.
After all, he couldn’t embarrass their sect in front of others. This was also a display of strength.
It was Lin Jin’s first time riding such a massive immortal flying boat. He mused, ‘So this is what flying boats look like in the xianxia universe.’ Crafted from tough wood and various metal, the vessel flew in the air at a speed that surpassed Lin Jin’s cloud.
On the flying boat, the immortals engaged in pleasant conversation. Thanks to Lin Jin, the grudge between Inferno Monk and Miao Yan Zhenren was resolved. After talking to each other, Miao Yan Zhenren revealed he was quite impressed with Inferno Monk’s abilities. After all, the latter was probably the last fire profound immortal in existence.

The Mystery Dao Sect had many half immortals cultivating the fire attribute. As they didn’t have a fire profound immortal to guide them, these half immortals had to conduct their own research. Making progress was excruciatingly slow, and it takes hundreds of years for one to make a small improvement. Mystery Dao Sect would consider it a great blessing if Inferno Monk could stay in their sect for a few years to guide their disciples.
Perhaps in another few hundred years, the Mystery Dao Sect could produce another fire profound immortal.
As Miao Yan Zhenren and Inferno Monk conversed, Xuan Yue Zhenren merely smiled silently. Then, she went over to Lin Jin and said, “Mr. Lin, may I speak to you in private?”
They moved to the back of the boat where Xuan Yue Zhenren opened up, “I heard from Yunshang that Mr. Lin’s master, Curator, has the phenomenal ability to appraise and treat beasts, is that true?”
Lin Jin nodded at once. Xuan Yue Zhenren may be a woman, but she could still support the almighty Immortal Cloud Sect as well as any other man. In fact, she was doing a splendid job leading the sect. After all, nearly all immortal sects on the same level as the Immortal Cloud Sect started decaying since the great immortal tragedy.
Of course, one could also say that the Immortal Cloud Sect was just like the Mystery Dao Sect. Both possessed rich backgrounds. In the commercial world, these sects were like large corporations, and the great immortal tragedy would be a financial crisis. Whenever one occurs, survival hinges on how well-established a corporation was, as well as the competence of its leader.
Thus, Lin Jin acted courteously toward Xuan Yue Zhenren and saluted her as a junior.
This was perfectly normal behavior. Even Qin Yunshang was much older than him, much less Xuan Yue Zhenren.
“I’d like to invite Mr. Lin over to our Immortal Cloud Sect. We too, have an immortal beast that we hope Mr. Lin can treat,” said Xuan Yue Zhenren.

Lin Jin anticipated this request. He had heard Qin Yunshang mention this in the Visitation Hall. Some of their sect’s immortal beasts sounded like they had chronic diseases that even immortal veterinarians couldn’t treat. From that point on, Lin Jin knew that Qin Yunshang aimed to seek treatment.
Sure enough, Xuan Yue Zhenren brought it up.
In Lin Jin’s opinion, immortal beasts were merely Rank 6 beasts. So long as they were beasts, no matter the symptoms or how tricky the disease, he had absolute confidence in his ability to treat them.
His tempered confidence was derived from his rich experience in treating and appraising beasts. And so, Lin Jin replied smilingly, “I gladly accept your invitation, but I may need you to give me a few days before that.”
Seeing how respectful Lin Jin was acting, Xuan Yue Zhenren nodded in satisfaction. She knew Lin Jin had to return to the Mystery Dao Sect to treat their Qirin beast.
That was the top priority. If she were to cut them off, Miao Yan Zhenren might just turn against her.
Moreover, the Immortal Cloud Sect’s issue wasn’t of great urgency so they could afford to wait. Halfway through the journey, Xuan Yue Zhenren and her fellow disciples bid the group farewell before parting ways.
After all, the flying boat was headed for the Mystery Dao Sect. While both sects have enjoyed a good relationship, they were still different sects. A degree of distance should be maintained. Since Xuan Yue Zhenren knew they were on their way to treat the Qirin, secrets were involved. Not wishing to trouble them, Xuan Yue Zhenren chose to return to their sect.
Xuan Yue Zhenren’s reputation was on par with Miao Yan Zhenren’s, so all immortals sent her off with a salute. Lin Jin was grateful to her. Despite never being formally acquainted, Xuan Yue Zhenren was willing to contribute her sect’s entire force to assist him. This was the most obvious sign of friendship.
It follows that friends should naturally help each other.
Inferno Monk had nowhere to go. Having faced Miao Yan Zhenren’s relentless invitation and due to his friendship with Lin Jin, he decided to visit the Mystery Dao Sect.
It seemed to Lin Jin that the Mystery Dao Sect wanted to offer a permanent senior position to Inferno Monk at their sect. Lin Jin didn’t want to get involved in this. Whether or not he chose to stay was entirely Inferno Monk’s decision.
As the oriole woman was a monster, she could never have anything to do with the people of the Mystery Dao Sect. Miao Yan Zhenren wouldn’t allow it since they had rules to abide by.
This incident, however, sparked an opportunity. With some persuasion from Lin Jin, Miao Yan Zhenren decided to accept the oriole as the sect’s monster disciple.
Exceptions had always been made in the past, so such a decision wasn’t exactly uncommon.
The oriole was very excited and grateful. Old Qing Zhi felt the same. Finally, man and monster could be together without having to hide their relationship in the dark.
Back at the Mystery Dao Sect, Miao Yan Zhenren sent everyone away and invited Lin Jin into the main hall. There, Miao Yan Zheren, Lin Jin, and Mr. Qi sat in private. Out of the blue, the old man carefully took out a needle that glowed with purple light.
The Purple Thunder Needle!
Lin Jin immediately recognized it.
A profound immortal grade magic treasure! It seems Miao Yan Zhenren managed to craft it successfully.
Exhilarated, Lin Jin accepted the needle with trembling hands.
In the teaching of the Body-Recast Psyche-Refining Needle Technique, the Purple Thunder Needle was known as the strongest acupuncture tool. At some point, Lin Jin figured he could never possess one in this lifetime. Apparently, miracles do exist in this world.

Sorcery in Boston
The timid daughter of some of the greatest spellcasters ever to have lived has found herself in another world, courtesy of magic gone awry. In Boston, Massachusetts, in the year 1935, she finds some kind souls in a hard era. In the heart of the Great Depression, as war looms around the corner, she seeks to find her place, and must come to terms with both who she is and what she truly desires. Author's Notes: Release Note: I recently realized what the hold up is. My current mental state is not compatible with the planned ending. If I wrote the ending according to what currently feels right, it will be a wretched, cruel ending that feels monstrously unfair and invalidates the work of the various characters... because that's how my life feels at the moment. The planned ending is coming out hollow and awkward, no matter how I write it, and so I've been bashing my head. I will finish it, once I manage to either brute force something decent out, or once my head gets screwed on straight. Audience: This story is not for young children - it contains some profanity, sexual content, violence, gore, and significant adult themes. Most of these are handled delicately enough not to upset teens or adults (hopefully), hence the lack of relevant tags, but it is nonetheless unsuitable for youth. It's fairly slow paced, and focused on the development of very human, very flawed individuals. Length / Completion Estimates: The outline currently involves two books. Book 1 is expected to be done with Chapter 43. It'll probably be completely finished by sometime in March of this year. I expect to move on to the far-more-lighthearted Of Gods and Dungeons (currently in progress / on hiatus). Afterwards, I may decide to redo Book 1, or write Book 2, or actually start sharing the story most dear to me, that I've been working on for several years now. Draft 1: Please be aware that this is first draft material. I do intend to come back to do a second draft after the story is complete. If anyone notices any issues whatsoever with the story, please let me know (pm, etc) so that I can improve the second draft. Writer's Pledge: I've taken the Writer's Pledge, meaning I'm commiting to completing this story. I'm a proud member of WriTE, a group dedicated to finishing stories. It will be done! Behind the Scenes notes: This picture was commissioned from an inked artist by the name of DanP. Up until the time of the protagonist's arrival, history has proceeded as before. Some places and characters have been borrowed from wikipedia entries of interesting figures from the time. I will make note in the chapter comments when such things come up. Naturally, I've taken a great deal of liberty with them. In interest of respecting individuals, I've either attempted to portray them as accurately as possible, or modified them sufficiently enough that they're simply an inspiration, instead of a real portrayal. I've attempted to be as accurate to the era as possible, but I'm not a historian. If you're aware of inaccuracies, please, bring them to my attention so that I can correct them.
