Chapter 649: 649
Chapter 649: Can’t Be Saved
The abductor disappeared right after casting a spell. Lin Jin was impressed by how the black-robed man operated. In fact, he wanted to learn how he could pull off such a stunt.
The enemy left.
It was a signal that it wasn’t time for him to confront Lin Jin yet, or perhaps he wasn’t ready.
From the way he was acting, the black-robed man was evidently confident in his abilities.
Did he think that his black wind chains and Ghost Vine Cage could keep Lin Jin in?
Lin Jin tried to break free only to find that he couldn’t shake the black wind chain off, not even after using his pet beasts’ strength. His pet beasts were tough, but the chains were tougher.
Lin Jin even tried Spell Negation but it didn’t work.
No doubt, the spell level was too high for what Lin Jin could handle. This was practically on a whole other realm.
Should he deploy the Clear Wind Sword now?
Lin Jin sent an instruction using his psyche, and the sword around his waist transformed into a sword flash. Flying out at breakneck speed, the sword slashed at the black wind chains and the result disappointed Lin Jin.
The chains refused to break.
He tried cutting the Ghost Vine Cage too, but to no avail.
This Ghost Vine Cage was most peculiar as it could actually withstand Clear Wind’s Sword Energy. This surprised Lin Jin, since Clear Wind had already achieved the standard of an immortal blade.
It was no wonder the black-robed man was confident enough to leave them alone.
He had an absolute advantage.
“Fine!” Lin Jin gave up resisting for now. He looked around secretly. Lin Jin felt doubtful that the enemy had actually left this place. Perhaps he was still nearby, keeping an eye on him, just like when he ambushed Lin Jin earlier.
After waiting for a moment and nothing happened, Lin Jin gave up. Aside from opening the Visitation Hall’s door, he didn’t have any trump cards left. Lin Jin didn’t plan on using this ultimate move just yet.

He would wait.
The enemy must have a reason for bringing him here, so why should he panic? Why not wait for them to reveal their purpose?
The wait lasted several hours.
Sunlight barely reached this strange forest. The only thing they got were individual rays of light that penetrated the thick vines above their heads..
It was as if countless lightbulbs hung above their heads in this dark area.
Then, the black-robed man returned.
A black wind swept over and he appeared out of nowhere together with an old man. Lin Jin was once again, impressed by his skill. The black-robed man cast Lin Jin a glance before approaching the oriole with the old man.
“Old Monster Xu, that’s her!” the black-robed man said. His deep voice sounded arrogant, sinister, and even savage. No doubt, he must be a forceful character.
The old man was bizarre-looking too. He was definitely an immortal, but his hair was disheveled, his back arched, and his skin was as wrinkly as tree bark. With his uneven skin tone and his malignant tumors, he appeared to resemble an old toad more than a human being.
His appearance alone, told Lin Jin that he wasn’t an orthodox immortal.
The old man named Old Monster Xu didn’t say much. The black-robed man undid the Ghost Vine Cage as the old man approached their victims. Then, the old man placed two fingers on the oriole’s wrist.
As a professional, Lin Jin could tell that Old Monster Xu was probably an immortal physician, even though he was merely watching on the sidelines.
Lin Jin got curious and wanted to see how this immortal physician would conduct the treatment.
Soon, this outwardly hideous old man frowned, revealing an uglier countenance. “Why is she so badly hurt?”
His question was clearly directed to the black-robed man, so the latter answered, “It was an accident. Black Water hasn’t gotten used to using the Ghost Hand yet so he ended up overdoing it. This oriole was strong too. She accidentally got hurt during the struggle.”

“Ghost hand? You mean the treasure that made the Phantom Hand Devil famous? You actually gave that magic treasure to a new disciple?” Old Monster Xu looked baffled.
The black-robed man laughed and pushed back his hood, revealing his face.
This man wore a stern expression, as well as a crown with three skulls on his head. A flowing beard and mustache grew on his long face, and he held a horsetail whisk in one hand. The oppressing immortal aura he exuded could only be described as frightening.
“The Ghost Hand is good, but it’s only a magic treasure. It means nothing to me. Let us not talk about that. Old Monster Xu, this oriole is needed for chanting the Mantra of Heaven. She cannot die. I don’t care what method you use, but you have to save her,” said the black-robed man firmly.
Old Monster Xu continued with his treatment but he clearly made little to no progress.
Although Lin Jin had yet to perform a diagnosis, he could tell that Old Monster Xu was a capable doctor. He was an immortal after all. To be specially invited here by the black-robed man, he must be highly skilled in medicine, surpassing the famous doctors Lin Jin knew by a mile. He was probably even better than Lin Jin.
The injury must be incredibly complex if it gave Old Monster Xu a headache.
One could even call it an impossible task.
Lin Jin was the exception.
This woman was an oriole monster, so she fell within the ‘jurisdiction’ of the museum. In other words, no matter the injury, the museum had a treatment method for it.
As Lin Jin pondered, Old Monster Xu shook his head. “This monster is too severely wounded. The Ghost Hand has shattered her meridians, so forget me, even if the miracle physician can’t save her. It’s better if you just bury her. You can forget about her soul because that’s shattered too.
Upon hearing this, the black-robed man looked baleful.
Even Lin Jin could hear that the oriole was destined to die.
He hesitated, wondering if he should step up instead. He had an understanding of the situation after coming in contact with the oriole’s blood earlier.
Indeed she was badly injured. Still, there were a few ways to save her.
The most challenging part would be saving her shattered soul. It was also this reason that Old Monster Xu had to give up. This was the reason why he said she was beyond saving.
Lin Jin’s Psyche-Refining Needle just happened to be the best technique to mend souls. In other words, if Lin Jin stepped up. The oriole wouldn’t have to die.
Lin Jin had that much confidence.
As Lin Jin pondered, the black-robed man seemed to have thought of something and turned to Lin Jin. He started approaching Lin Jin, and he opened the Ghost Vine Cage with a wave of his hand. Even the black wind chains bounding Lin Jin disappeared.
Old Monster Xu watched the process curiously. Despite Lin Jin’s composure, he was secretly bracing himself. If this black-robed man intended to do him harm, he would open the Visitation Hall’s door immediately and escape.
Though, Lin Jin couldn’t be sure if the man had any means of stopping him. After all, this person was a genuine profound immortal.
If Lin Jin couldn’t even open the Visitation Hall’s door, he would be out of ideas. For now, he could only proceed without a plan.
What surprised Lin Jin was that the black-robed man stopped about five steps away. He saluted Lin Jin and said, “I’ve heard of your good name, Appraiser Lin. I have offended you earlier, so allow me, Yan Shenjun, to apologize to you.”

Keepers of the Neeft
The Indigo Empire has conquered half the world’s nations, their people, and their gods. According to its citizens, old and new, the rest of the world will follow. In the capital of the Throne-home, the Imperial Academy produces the next generation of great leaders to drive that expansion. Cadryn Bence knows he will be one such leader, he’s overcome his common birth, mixed heritage, and every other obstacle to be the top of his class. He dreams of glory on the southern front against the Gravanik States. He will not be finding it. Instead, if the glory he expects. Far to the north, lies the unassumingly named North-Eastern Extreme Frontier Tower, a backwater post if ever there were one. Through the machinations of the Emperor’s state religion, and a cult within it, Cadryn will find himself on his way to this first assignment. On the frontier, Cadryn will discover that neither his campions, nor the Neeft itself, are what he expects. Follow Cadryn on his journey to discover many truths: about himself, about the Empire, and about the very world he call home. ****** Keepers of the Neeft is a (bit dark) fantasy story revolving around Cadryn and his journey of discovery. There’s a fairly wide cast of supporting characters (his fellow Keepers) all with their own reasons and motivations behind how they came to be at the Neeft. Current release plan is to have part 2 completed, then fully edit up till the end of part 2. I am in the process of editing the earlier content as I complete the updates/re-writes. Apologies for any rough content in the meantime. My primary objective with Keepers of the Neeft is to work on developing content flow and establishing a community of people who enjoy my writing style. I write SF/F and horror as my primary genres, Keepers is actually my 3rd novel length work, but my current project. Updates of new Content will currently be in the form of one larger post on Tuesdays.
