《When Fireflies Diminish | Poetry》26 | The Winter Inside

When was the last time my soul felt it?

The comfort and warmth of belonging

To someplace, to something?

When was the last time my soul felt free?

Like a gliding bird in the sky, unrestricted,

Chirping with a purpose and glee?

I know that I used to be unaffected by society,

By time itself, by the responsibilities.

Yet, at some point, I lost something.

The night lost the stars, the moon hid.

The river wind no longer caressed me.

The sunrise, the peak of the heat,

All had dulled somehow, some way

They no longer gave me the hope or familiarity.

I still yearn for some place, for something.

But could I even fill the emptiness in my chest

When my soul felt so bereft and wintery?
