Chapter 354: Chapter 354 – A Sky-High Price
Chapter 354 – A Sky-High Price
The price rose higher and higher.
Unwittingly, it had already gone above five thousand.
In those private rooms, many honored guests hatefully smashed their tables as they forfeited one by one.
There was nothing they could do. Among them, there were quite a few who didn’t truly need anything in this auction, and only came to support the Wind God Trading Company. On top of that were the successive items brought out by the auction. As a result, they didn’t bring along their entire family holdings — Normally, having five or six thousand spirit crystals was enough.
But who could’ve imagined that a prismatic Innate Mending Pill would suddenly appear in this place?
It would be good if one went with some friends to work together and join in on the action. Under the command of the person with the largest influence, several forces could support one organization — Of course, this didn’t rule out the fact that everyone wanted to be resolute and uncompromising. If someone came over by themselves to play around, they would be out of luck. If they didn’t have enough spirit crystals, they would have no other choice but to instruct their servants to rush back for more. However, who knew if the prismatic Innate Mending Pill would still be here once the servants returned?
This was practically toying with them!
As a result, fewer and fewer groups remained. Afterwards, there were only four or five private rooms left that were still persistently announcing their own bids.
At this time, as they continued to call out prices with reddened faces, they also rejoiced in their hearts.
It was fortunate that they came and that the Wind God Trading Company did a good job in maintaining secrecy. Otherwise, if someone else with even more abundant financial resources arrived, then perhaps there wouldn’t be any way to participate in the bidding competition. Even if it was them!
Among these few private rooms, there was one where four men and women resided. The rims of their eyes were flushed red, and their fingernails dug into their palms.
The beautiful Ah Zhu was unwaveringly staring at the large screen. She didn’t allow her mind to wander one bit: “Six thousand two hundred!” After that, she heard a few more quoted prices, and quickly retorted, “Six thousand three hundred fifty!”

The price was gradually beginning to stagnate. However, there wasn’t a single person who was willing to give up. As before, they kept raising the price step by step. The differences were extremely small.
Ah Zi was very nervous. She clenched her fists so tightly that her fingertips blanched white. Her pursed lips were also pale: “We must win it. We must, we must… Fifth brother…”
Chang Min and Yu Fei were constantly rummaging through their own inter-spatial tools to pour out the spirit crystals inside:
“I still have seven hundred here!”
“I’ve got four hundred fifty-eight left in this one!”
“Keep looking! Keep looking!”
“I’m looking! Great, there’s nineteen more in here!”
Pile after pile of spirit crystals were released, and thrown onto the ground.
Right now, no one cared if the spirit crystals were dirtied. All of them only wanted to gather even greater numbers to make a successful bid for that prismatic pill!
If it was only a simple prismatic pill, perhaps they wouldn’t have acted this way. But when all was said and done, this was an Innate Mending Pill! They absolutely couldn’t miss it!
Just when everyone couldn’t find any more spirit crystals, the prices being announced outside had already reached seven thousand.
Ah Zi’s slender fingers trembled: “Altogether, we only have seven thousand one hundred twenty-five spirit crystals…”
With the quoted prices, there was still a surplus of a little more than one hundred — No. Now, there was only a difference of a few dozen spirit crystals.
“Seven thousand eighty!”
“Seven thousand ninety!”
“Seven thousand one hundred!”
“Seven thousand one hundred fifty!”
Yu Fei pounded his forehead with great strength, and ruthlessly smashed himself against the back of a couch.
Chang Min almost cracked his teeth with how hard he clenched his jaw.
Ah Zi and Ah Zhu’s tears instantly tumbled down. The two beautiful figures couldn’t help hugging each other as they cried bitterly.
Yu Fei heaved deeply: “It’s all because of me! It’s my fault! If I hadn’t bought those Tiger Vitality Pills before this, I certainly could’ve taken out several hundred more spirit crystals now!”
Chang Min took a deep breath: “This isn’t your fault. Any Tiger Vitality Pills would always be given to little brother. If not for that, little brother wouldn’t be alive right now. Every time we save some spirit crystals, it’s customary that we buy dozens of pills as a stockpile. Otherwise, if we travel too far away, little brother might run out of medicine… Therefore, this isn’t your fault, Ah Fei.”

But no matter how these four people tried to comfort one another, they weren’t able to change the facts.
When all of the spirit crystals in their possession were added together, even if they traded away every last cent of their wealth, they wouldn’t have been able to purchase this prismatic Innate Mending Pill.
At this moment, the earnest hopes and expectations in their hearts turned into despair.
— Gu Zuo didn’t know about the despair of the other people.
At this time, because another two groups didn’t have enough spirit crystals, there were only two private rooms still in the competition.
An intense fight passed by. In the end, the price of the prismatic Innate Mending Pill halted at nine thousand eight hundred spirit crystals.
Gu Zuo abruptly let out a sigh.
To be honest, he was no less nervous than those people who were locked in the bidding war… Nevertheless, he never expected that this price would get so close to ten thousand.
Originally, he believed that, at most, a thousand-something spirit crystals could settle things.
It would’ve been similar to the first two auctioned items for the finale.
The one who ultimately obtained the prismatic Innate Mending Pill was the honored guest of a certain private room. However, this person’s identity and origins were unknown. Only the manager of this branch of the Wind God Trading Company took the spirit crystals and handed over the auctioned item that belonged to the other party.
And with the sale of the Innate Mending Pill, the heavy curtains of this instance’s auction were drawn to a close.
Everyone who came to participate in this time’s auction felt that it had been a worthwhile trip.
In an auction of this standard, being able to sell an auctioned item for nearly ten thousand spirit crystals was truly a rare sight!
Gu Zuo accepted the bag that Shopkeeper Fang presented. Inside of it, there were no fewer than twenty thousand spirit crystals packed away. He raised an eyebrow: “There’s a lot, Shopkeeper Fang.”
Shopkeeper Fang smiled and said: “If the second pill was auctioned, the price would’ve surely risen even higher. So, don’t worry about this. The total was just rounded up to a ‘whole number’.”
Gu Zuo wouldn’t split hairs over this bit of spirit crystals. After silently thinking things over, the corner of his mouth curled into a grin: “In that case, many thanks, Shopkeeper Fang.”
Naturally, Shopkeeper Fang was happy. After that, he took the initiative to stand up and guide Gu Zuo out.
This small passageway that the two travelled through really didn’t overlap with the routes of anyone else. Once they walked out, they appeared directly in front of the auction house’s large doors.
Gu Zuo bade his farewells to the other: “Shopkeeper Fang, I’ve already been out for quite some time. I must be on my way.”
Shopkeeper Fang probably thought of a response in advance. At this moment, he cordially asked: “After this auction, there will certainly be many people making discreet inquiries about Pharmacist Gu’s traces. It may be assumed that, due to the relationship between our Medicine Heart Pavilion and the Wind God Trading Company, people will be coming to this Fang as well… This Fang has no other choice but to discuss a plan with thee. If there truly are such personages, how shall I inform Pharmacist Gu? Apart from that, this Fang also has an unreasonable request — In the future, if Pharmacist Gu has any top-notch medicinal pills, would thou consider our Medicine Heart Pavilion?”
Gu Zuo pondered, and nodded his head: “Your prices are fair, so I can naturally do that. As for the people who might come looking for you… We’ll discuss it at that time.”
Shopkeeper Fang struck while the iron was hot: “Since Pharmacist Gu isn’t completely opposed to those people, what shall be the contact method when I need to find Pharmacist Gu?”
Gu Zuo paused.
The contact details…
Soon after, Gu Zuo thought of a method: “If you want to find me, send a message to the West Garden Tavern. My people will be there to deliver your message to me. When that time comes, I’ll naturally give you a reply.”
Shopkeeper Fang didn’t try to fish out the other party’s true origins. He also wasn’t disappointed. He only said his farewells to Gu Zuo with even more cordial familiarity.
Once Gu Zuo’s silhouette disappeared, Shopkeeper Fang turned around and departed.
Following this, how they scouted any information would be their Medicine Heart Pavilion’s matter…

The Shape of Home
The world of Alvelotyl is one of fantasy, one filled with many races, an expansive magic system exploring themes of identity, some LitRPG elements, moral ambiguity and no small amount of magical inventions similar to those in our world. Dragons with blogs showing off their hoards of treasure live alongside [Hunters] chasing Giant Toads, or [Bandits] using rifles charged with Fire Magic. The Shape of Home is a story within this world, and follows the exploits of Yuri Scalesmith, a budding Lizardfolk adventurer from a small country town with a knack for inventing, and how her life drastically changes after she’s taken from home forever following a single catastrophic event. After being taken from her previously normal life, Yuri is thrust into a world of sprawling streets, magically mutated monsters, and a crime war for territory stretching across an entire city. The Shape of Home normally updates every Tuesday and Saturday at 6PM GMT, but I'm trying out different upload times to see how people react and attract others in differing timezones. There will be two week long breaks after each story arc's Interlude. This story is also a participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge!

The life of a teenage hellworlder
We've all heard of the trope that Earth is a deadly planet by galactic standard; and has thus honed humanity into a ruthless species bent on surviving at all costs. As it turns out, that trope is true. Sapient species that evolve on safe planets develop to be peaceful and compassionate - and the ones that do on dangerous ones become violent and selfish out of need - usually wiping themselves out. But obviously, not every violent species drives itself to extinction - resulting in them being feared and ostracized - including humans. The life of a teenage hellworlder is a sci-fi slice of life story that revolves mainly around Thomas, a sixteen-year-old New Britannian attending a Xeno high school, who befriends a lonely apex predator named Javqua. Getting written by two amateur teen writers, things may sometimes be inconsistent or be confusing - feel free to comment and point out these problems. Gore, profanity, and traumatizing content tags are only for minor events in the story and do not happen often. Chapters are around 1k - 2k words - pretty short, but that's because we're all busy with our own lives and school. Trust us - we would gladly upload 5k word chapters if we could. We tend to upload new chapters every Saturday or Sunday. Please consider supporting us on Patreon!

Grin the Cheat
There was a time when heroes roamed between the Four Great Cities. They fought for kingdoms and princesses and they lived and died by their valour. Or so the stories say. The way the minstrels sing it, everyone had a swashbuckling good time. Nowadays, buckles are rarely swashed. All the great beasts have been slain, all the great treasures unearthed. Princesses are few and far between — the ones worth fighting over, anyway — and the kingdoms have been divvied up between the sons of sons of sons of the heroes of old. No valour required. Frankly, the hero business is in a sorry state. Luckily for Grin the Cheat, thieving and murder are thriving as usual. If you have a moment, please vote for this story at Top Web Fiction. Note: This is my first work of fiction, and as such, there will almost certainly be issues with pacing, grammar, the writing as a whole, and the story as a whole. If I reach a suitable point to pause the story, I will most likely do a complete rewrite as a separate RR posting. If you have any suggestions, feel free to post them here or in the discord. Mary Susan Oceanrunner and the Brutus Saint's Academy
Join Mary Susan Oceanrunner on her quest to do... erm... something really important for the world... probably... Ahem. Long gone are the days when every hero could do whatever they wanted - now, we are civilised. We have government. Law. And proper forms. Lots of proper forms. (Final episode 25/07/2022. Also - beta readers far into the book rate the 'gore' degree as below 2/10, so the warning is a bit much) Mary Susan Oceanrunner is a poor girl from the orphanage, who like many others before, has to fulfil her destiny. The prophecy had been told, and she is the only one who can make things right. Erm... probably. Anyway, she can't just go and kill monsters like in the middle ages. First, she must apply for the appropriate permissions, fill the forms, learn about the proper loot taxations... Hey, no one said adventuring would be easy, right? Disclaimers: No claim made by any character by the book should be treated as the author's or anyone else's opinion on any subject. Most likely, it was just the funniest thing the Author could think of at the time of writing. This book contains many references to other works. It will probably be best enjoyed by individuals familiar with at least some of the following: 1) Computer games2) Fantasy in general3) Science fiction4) Tabletop RPGs5) Conspiracy theories6) Corporation work life7) Long forgotten prophecies uttered millennia ago in almost as forgotten languages under a starless night three dusks before the great convergence8) Filling any government-mandated form9) School10) EnglishMy ultimate goal is to make as many people experience something akin to joy while reading (think ~a bit louder exhale through the nose). It doesn't mean every scene will be funny or joyful because that's not how this stuff works. I can neither confirm nor deny having any other hidden agenda outside of that.
