Chapter 2 – 4 (part 1)

The First Slave?

I went to Banza’s house and looked around inside again.

“I wonder if I overdid it a little…?”

If the others had been here, it would’ve been a pretty tricky situation.

The back wall of the house had been blown away. Of the 28 corpses inside, 19 of them were mixed in with the rubble, various body parts blown off. The remaining 9 had each been divided into two, their insides spilling out. The one survivor, Banza, had fainted from having his hands cut off, and had soiled himself. Because of all that, the room was filled with the stench of filth and blood.

“Well, time to clean up.”

I summoned three medium size golems and set them to work cleaning. First, I brought Banza outside and washed him with water. While I was doing so, I noticed him trying to resist, so I had one of the golems tie him up tightly with rope, and strung him up from the eaves of the house. I used the other golems to move the large pieces of debris and broken tables, and furniture etc. outside. The small golems finally arrived then too, so I had 10 of them gather the dead bodies and move them outside of the room. The rest of them continued to transport the captured thieves.

After about 30 minutes, nothing was left in the room.

I was then able to wash the whole room, using water magic to mimic a pressure washer, and cleared away all the filth from the walls and floor. I disposed of the dirty water outside, then used wind magic to first dry the room, then to air out the stench. Compared to its original state, the room was in much better shape now.

After that I froze the dead bodies outside, and stored them in the bag. All the broken furniture was burnt to get rid of it.

I’d done everything I set out to do, so I finally had some free time. I went back toward the direction of the field, and using earth magic, gathered a large amount of clay.

I mixed the clay together with some hay using alchemy and formed a square shaped box out of it. It was 2m across, 4m wide, and about 60cm deep. Then, using wind and fire magic I dried it. The final step was using fire magic again to help the clay harden and set. I had made a “bathtub” out of earthenware. Even though I only half knew what I was doing, I think it turned out pretty well.

I put the completed bathtub into my bag, and went to the garden area of the house where all the girls were.

I dug a square shaped hole in the garden and hardened the sides so I could put the bathtub in, then filled the remaining gaps in with soil. Next, I used earth magic to build up a wall around the tub. A hole was built in one side of the wall to serve as an entrance. Finally, I filled the tub with water and used fire magic to warm it up. At last, the “bathtub” was complete. (I didn’t make a roof, as I don’t think I could’ve made it properly so it might’ve been dangerous)

I called the three catgirls, who were still in the house, out.

“What’s up Tenma?”

“Wah, what is this hut?”

“What did you make?”

They were very interested in what they thought was a hut. When I answered that it was a bath, they all exclaimed,

” ” ” A bath! ” ” ”

Their eyes opened wide in surprise, then they quickly went inside, overjoyed.

“Can you three let the captured women into the bath? Even if we don’t have soap or towels, just being in the water would be enough.”

Lilly asked the women still inside if there were any towels. There were no clean towels left in the house, so they looked for and collected them from the other houses. It turns out there wasn’t a single bar of soap in the entire village. The three girls also gathered some pails alongside the towels.

Only 4 people could bathe at a time, so they took turns in groups of 3. One catgirl sister was included in each group, to help the other ladies in general, but also because they could use magic to keep the water warm.

While all the women were bathing, I took a walk around the village and came across a food storage cellar, so I went in.

As I was leaving the house, the catgirl sisters had made it very clear that I was not to peek under any circumstances. It seems they somehow still weren’t over the incident from before, so I just nodded in agreement.

The food cellar was unexpectedly large but, there was hardly any food left in it. Instead of food, the thieves had accumulated their treasure in one corner.

There was around 1,000,000G worth of money, 2 small boxes filled with jewels, 146 swords, 136 spears, 130 bows and 20 barrels filled with arrows, maybe 10,000 to 12,000 arrows total. It was a weirdly high number of weapons for the village.

“Strange, even with this much gold and jewels, it’s an abnormal number of weapons for a group of 100 thieves to have.”

I thought it best to let the catgirls know about it first and decided to put off collecting them until later.

I left the cellar as it was and returned to the house. It seemed the third group had finished bathing, and Milly who had been watching over them, had just come out.

“Milly, do you have a minute?”

Hearing me call out, Milly approached while wiping her still wet hair with a towel.

“What’s wrong, Tenma? HA! You were trying to watch me while I was bathing, weren’t you?”

“No, it’s about something serious. Call Lilly and Nelly, I want to talk.”

Seeing my serious face, Milly calmed down and called the other two out.

After they all gathered together, I told them about the weapons I had found in the food cellar.

“What do you guys think?”

“It really does feel like way too many.”

“Couldn’t it just be a coincidence? They just happened to have a lot of spares or something.”

“Even if that’s the case, how could the thieves have gotten this many seemingly new weapons? It’s still a lot of spares for the number of thieves that we defeated.”

We concluded that for now, we would just count them all and record it so we could report it to the guild.

After we were finished talking, I tried to get into the bath but the three girls were strongly against it for some reason. I had no choice but to boil some water in a pot and use that to try and wipe myself down.

After so much had happened it was already close to dawn, so I decided to talk about it further only after I had gotten some sleep.

By the time I was woken up by my stomach growling, the sun was already high in the sky. Based on the position of the sun, it was around noon.

I sleepily got out of the carriage while yawning. After all that had happened, of course the women had been reluctant to let me sleep under the same roof as them, so I had slept alone inside of the carriage.

It was a little early, but I started to make lunch.

I topped up yesterday’s leftover soup by adding dried meat and some veggies, and more water and salt until it had a good flavour. Some bread I had bought in town completed the lunch menu. Since there was enough for all of the ladies too, I called out to the house.

Instead of Lilly or one of the catgirl sisters, it was the lady who had served us tea yesterday at Banza’s house who came out.

“Even though you saved us yesterday, we’ve treated you rather rudely and we’re truly sorry for that.”

“Nah, I don’t mind. Given the situation, it’s only natural.”

The woman who apologized first thing was named Serna, and it seems she was the daughter of the former village mayor.
