It’s already been a week since I’ve left Gunjo City, but……

“That’s weird, I should’ve been able to see the village near the halfway point by now….”

I had gotten myself lost.

After leaving the city I really felt like I was going at too slow of a pace. Had I been following the map properly, I should be at least halfway by now, or so I thought! There should also be a village halfway between Gunjo City and the dungeon city too!

During the past week we had come across a forest, we’d secured more food from a river, then after that Shiromaru got lost, and various other smaller events had happened too.

What had happened to Shiromaru was a tad unlucky. He was swept away by the river so he couldn’t use scent to find his way back, I had to use Investigation to search for him, then go out and get him myself. Although it felt very slow, we were actually travelling over 20km a day on average, and I had planned to arrive at the village today.

But, it was almost sunset already. I had to start setting up camp for the night, so I stopped the horse drawn carriage in a calm area.

The “camp” was really just a simple barrier I put up around the carriage, so I could prepare some food.

The carriage I rode in was the same one as before, when I had hunted boars (thieves) with Lilly and her sisters, though I had made a lot of modifications to it since then.

First I had remodelled the main body into a box shape, using both strengthening magic on it, and sheets of iron.

Then I affixed space-time magic to the inside, just the same as my dimension bag. From the outside it looked to be roughly 2m wide by 3m long, with a height of 1.8m, though it was taller than that in fact, around 2.5m due to the wheels etc. However, the inside actually stretched out to about four times as big.

The modifications ended up costing around 300,000G, mostly due to the price of the iron.

Thanks to all the extra weight, it would take several ordinary horses to pull it. I used both strengthening magic and weight reduction magic over the entire carriage, both of which would need to be topped up with more magical power each day, so it ended up turning into a horse drawn carriage exclusively for magic users. I’m the only one officially registered to use it, though.

Thanks to my simple way of living, I’d likely have an easier time staying at any strange inns compared to your average traveller, too.

I was considering whether or not to put in a bathroom in one corner of the carriage. While thinking and looking for the best space,

“THIEF!” I heard someone shout.

I used Investigation in the direction of the voice, and a reaction came from the other side of a nearby hill, about 100m away. It was apparently a group of 16 people being attacked by 20 bandits.

“This could be dangerous.”

The group of 16 seem to have been attacked by surprise, and the bandits had them completely surrounded.

I gave up my renovation of the carriage, took off Shiromaru’s collar and ordered him to attack from the opposite side as me.

I then gave orders to Tanikaze and headed up the hill.

Watching from atop the hill with my Night Vision, the group of 16 were in a tight spot, as I had suspected.

It looked like those being attacked included six adventurers, three merchant like men who seemed to be employing the others, and seven slaves.

While observing them, I heard Shiromaru howling from the side opposite me. Answering him, I launched a fireball into the sky.

“What’s going on!?”

One of the thieves cried out, warning the others to be wary and surveyed his surroundings.

“GYAA!”

“It’s a wolf monster– GUUGH-“

“It’s huge, GWAGH-“

Faster than their wits, Shiromaru launched his attack from the opposite side.

In order to finish off the remaining thieves who were now in wild disarray, I charged straight into them with Tanikaze.

“Reinforcements are here! Everyone tighten up your defenses!”

The thieves weren’t the only ones who were confused. Despite the confusion, the group of 16 listened to my words and defended themselves.

“That wolf over there is your ally too! Don’t fight with him unless you want to die!”

I added. If I hadn’t, Shiromaru probably wouldn’t have been able to tell friend from foe. If any one of those adventurers attacked Shiromaru, they would be killed for sure.

Because we took the thieves by surprise, me (and Tanikaze) and Shiromaru together took them down quickly.

“Amazing! What kind of person is he?!”

“Ask me about it later! For now, believe in your allies and shore up your defenses!”

“But there are only three bandits left… No, looks like they’re all already dead.”

Though the bandits had worked together some, they hadn’t expected a surprise attack, so it was fairly simple for us to take them down.

“Enough, return Shiromaru!”

At my command, Shiromaru came bounding back, his tail wagging behind him. I patted his head.

“Although I’m grateful for your aid, are you really our ally?”

One of the adventurers called out from a short distance away.

“That really depends on you. If you want to be hostile toward us, I won’t go easy on you.”

Hearing the determination and willingness to kill behind my words, the adventurers winced and threw down their weapons, then raised their hands in the air.

“As you can see we have no hostility toward you. Rather, we’re grateful.”

“I can see that. I’ll take your word for it.”

I replied and made Shiromaru stand down. The men approached me after that.

“Those guys surely were thieves. How many were taken out…… looks like it was all of them. I’ll gather them up.”

“Yeah, all of those guys were taken down by you and the wolf.”

After hearing that, I told Shiromaru to go and gather all the bodies of the thieves together. Before the fight, I had told Shiromaru to avoid ripping the thieves to shreds, as much as possible anyways. Because of that, most of the bodies were still mostly intact.

I was putting the dead bodies into my bag, when,

“Thank you very much for saving us from such a dangerous situation.”

said one of the merchant looking men as he approached.

“I work as a slave merchant, my name is Jayman.”

Name: Jayman

Age: 43

Race: Human

Title: Slave Merchant

He noticed I raised my eyebrows slightly as he mentioned slave merchant.

“There’s no need to worry. I am an officially established merchant…… But I guess it’s no good just telling you that. I don’t know if you’ll accept this as proof, but please take a look at this.”

With that, he pulled out a piece of paper.

The paper read “Slave Commercial Licence”, with his name printed, as well as various items of warning and contract terms. Finally, ‘I, Alsus Von Sanga give my seal of approval to this document’ was written.

“I don’t know if this is a genuine document, but because the Duke himself is named here, I can trust you to some degree.”

“Is that so, I’m grateful for at least that much. Just calling me Jayman is fine. Also…… if it’s possible, could you take off that mask and show me your real face?”

I remembered that I had changed into a temporary disguise to hide my mouth from view. When I removed the mask, Jayman and the other adventurers were all equally surprised.

“You’re that young!? I had thought you might be a young one but…… not as young as this…… might your name be Tenma?”

Hearing that made me become more wary.

“Sorry to startle you. The truth is, I was the one who handled Geese as a slave, and that’s when I heard about some person named Tenma-san rather than the Duke.”

Jayman said, and he then continued on about what he had discussed with the Duke of Sanga.

It included the deal made between myself and the Duke, so I decided to ease up on my wariness.

“So then, why is Tenma-san in a place like this…… Although we’re thankful you’re here, I had heard that you were aiming to go to the dungeon city. Isn’t this the opposite direction of the dungeon city?”

I took out my hand written map and showed them.

“I’ve been following this map, but it looks like I screwed up somehow……”

Jayman took one glance at the map and explained, the truth coming as a shock to me.

Translator’s Note: Sorry for the delay! I was kept busy in December between studying and all that comes with the holidays. Thank you for your patience everyone.
