《Blue Road》Episode 14 (Part 1)

Fawn’s eyes shot open as she jolted out of the futon. She looked around, finding herself back at Ken and Kelly’s apartment. Fawn wiped her eyes and breathed in and out to calm down her nerves. It occurred to her, she and Ashley had met each other in the past after all, if that dream was any indication.

“So, we met after all, if only I could’ve told Ashley that,” Fawn said to herself, trying to maintain her smile as she let the tears fall off her face.

Her eyes widened; there was something else in her dreams, she noticed. Her death, family’s demise, and Ashley’s supposed departure, could all be connected in some way. She had no clue when or how it had happened either, but…

“Huh?”

Richard yawning, got Fawn’s attention as he stretched his arms and sat on the bed-couch.

“Oh, Richard, sorry. I didn’t mean to wake you,” Fawn murmured.

“No, it’s fine.” Richard waved it off. “I’ve been awake for quite a while, to be honest. I also heard you talking to yourself.”

“How much did you hear?”

“Bits and pieces of it. Something the matter?”

“I was thinking about how all of us might’ve died,” Fawn replied. “Maybe it's a series of events, caused by the same person.”

“Well, we don’t know for certain.” Richard shrugged as he got out of bed. “But I’m sure we can find out why, slowly but surely.”

“You think so?”

“Are you serious?” Richard and Fawn turned to muffled yelling from the other side of the room.

Ken and Kelly opened the door and entered the room. They had bed-heads, baggy eyes, and stretched out their work uniforms with mismatched socks and shoes.

“Sorry guys, but we need to get up early today for work,” Ken told them.

“What?” Richard’s arms slumped to the floor as his mouth gaped. “Why?”

“We got a call from the boss,” Kelly replied. “We have a crucial meeting to attend to.”

“At this hour?” Richard inquired. “But the sun hasn’t come out yet!”

“Sorry, but that’s out of our control,” Kelly said. “At least you’re human again.” She pointed out.

“Oh yeah, how did you know I was a blue blob before?”

“The voice was a dead giveaway.”

“Oh, I see.”

“We should get ready and hurry,” Ken said.

Richard, Kelly, and Ken had breakfast and headed toward work. Fawn took matters into her own hands and tried to find some clues about the killer herself. Whoever they were, had to be around here somewhere, she just had that feeling. Fawn flew off without telling Richard, thinking he wouldn’t notice by the time she came back. He seemed to be busy, anyway.

On the way there, Richard asked why Kelly wasn’t repulsed by his transformation. She told him he wasn’t the first blob she’s seen before. Kelly attempted to inform him who the other person was. A clearing of the throat interrupted their talk as the group reached the entrance to the office building.

They turned to face Mindy, standing beside the entrance. She tapped her foot and checked her watch.

“Oh, are we late?” Kelly asked.

“No, you’re right on time,” Mindy replied, looking up at them. “Commendable work you three.”

“Thanks.”

Wow, a compliment, that’s new. Richard thought, crossing his arms.

“Shall we get going?” Ken asked. “I want to get this meeting over with.”

“Go ahead without me,” Mindy told him. “Kelly and I need to have a chat first.”

“We do?” Kelly inquired. “Are you mad at me about something?”

“Question, where were you last night?”

“Excuse me?”

“She called out her shift and left.” Ken pointed out.

“Did I ask you?” Mindy retorted with a side glare.

“No, but still,” Ken muttered in disgust.

“You could’ve at least told someone,” Mindy mentioned.

“I did. I told Richard and... nobody else.” Kelly answered.

“Minus 20 points.”

“Aw, man, but I couldn’t find Charlie or Claudia anywhere. I knew you’d say no, so I didn’t bother telling you...”

“Want me to lower your score further?”

“No, ma’am!”

“What’s going on here?” Charlie’s voice interrupted the chat. The group turned to their boss as he entered the room alongside Claudia.

He furrowed his brows. Instead of heading inside for the business meeting, his employers stood in the open, having an argument amongst themselves. Nevertheless, Charlie continued to be optimistic toward the employees beneath him.

Mindy composed herself and adjusted her glasses. “It’s nothing, sir,” She replied.

“Oh, well, it’s great to see you guys here.” Charlie continued. “Now we can get things done sooner.”

“Where were you?” Richard questioned, squinting his eyes and staring at him.

“I was prepping for the meeting, you know, the usual business stuff,” Charlie replied. “Now, shall we get going?”

As the group headed over to another enormous room, Ken placed a hand on Richard’s shoulder to get his attention. He told him not to let Mindy get under his skin, as she was hard to describe. Richard didn’t know what to think of it, but nodded, as they went inside.
