《Super Sekken (An Action Shonen Story)》Super Sekken, Ch. 31: The Night New Tako Stood Still

"My sight deceives me, but my instinct can't. Whenever I am in danger I can't help but flee. Whenever there is peril, I choose flight. I can out maneuver anything I put my mind to, because that is who I am. I am the Iron Leg. I am the Untouchable Slippy. I am what I've always been: unique. I can't run from my talents, for without my skills, I am talentless. If I can't accept myself, then I can't accept others... so I must fight for my talents. Fight for others'. No one will make the same mistakes I did, and no longer will they as long as I stand! We are more than just people, we are strong! We are capable! We are super! And I.... I am... SUPER SEKKEN!!!"

Miyuki launched to her feet. Her once deceived eyes now were closed off from the terrors that scarred her mind. As long as they weren't in use, she could not be broken. As long as she stayed blinded, there was no mimicry to drive her mad. Her instincts were all that mattered, and she started to pay more attention to it than she normally did. By the feeling on her skin, she could tell 'Mimic Madness' was still in the room. The sound the floors made was rock solid like tile, and not the grass that she was deceived into believing.

While Miyuki removed her ability to see, the summons would merge. The four summons turned into two, then the two merged into one, and that one taking the shape of the girl. This girl then calmly smirked, jumping to her full power and charging a fist straight for Miyuki's chest. Unknown to her, Miyuki's senses had become enhanced so intensely that she could react to something a hundred times her speed as opposed to the ten she normally could do. Miyuki's sensitivity forced her to leap right over the girl's fist, then swiftly landing behind her. The moment Miyuki landed, she launched a knee into the girl's back and knocked her swiftly to the ground.

"B-but how..." the girl muttered in shock, looking at Miyuki with a face of surprise and fear. There was no way her ability didn't work! How could she even fight without looking, that was impossible! Sight was everything! The thought of abandoning one of the core senses of the body was unheard of by her.

Desperate times call for desperate measures, and the girl had one last trick up her sleeve. She reached for that 'soft drink' she placed on the throne earlier. In reality, that soft drink was not a simple cola, but was the most deadly weapon 'Mimic Madness' carried on her. It was no drink, but actually a stick of dynamite, more so a roll of dynamite! In her other hand would be Stronzo's lighter, which one of the summons had picked up in the midst of their battle.

With the most careful and delicate hand, the sinister girl would quietly light the roll of dynamite. Since Miyuki had abandoned her sight, the girl took advantage of it by silently under-hand tossing the roll over to her. The moment it was tossed, she made a full-speed sprint towards the elevator door. The fuse silently burned next to Miyuki while the enemy had fled for safety. If the fuse wasn't stopped, the room would have collapsed on top of them. If 'Mimic Madness' didn't get stopped, then I-35 would have lived for another day! Which did Miyuki prioritize... well, there was only one that she could hear. The sound of the burning of the fuse was blocked out by the sound of the girl's footsteps... therefore, Sekken's body went after what was the most obvious course of action: chase after 'Mimic Madness'.

"OH NO YOU DON'T!" Sekken shouted while sprinting after the girl. No matter how hard both ran, neither would be lucky enough to escape the incoming...

-KABOOOOOM!

Both Miyuki and the girl would be swept away by the sudden overwhelming blast. The deafening roar of the blast and the immense force rattled the ground and tore the remaining room apart. Under the cloud of dust stood twisted metal, destroyed walls, the floor was obliterated, and the entire room was had been reduced to shambles in just a split second. The roof was barely standing, which held multiple classrooms above it which had also sustained some damage from the blast's shockwave. The supporting columns were blown to pieces, which meant this room was bound to collapse in just moments.

Miyuki slowly stood up from the rubble, fanning away the cloud of dust. She tried opening her eyes, but her vision had deteriorated enough to be considered blind. One thing did come into her mind though, one that angered her greatly. This person sat dynamite off in the room... what happened to Manaka? What if she got hurt?

"You... YOU! WHAT DID YOU DO?!" She yelled at the girl, who was audibly scrambling to her feet and getting ready to make another run for it. Before she could escape, the girl would feel the back of her shirt grabbed and violently pulled towards the furious Miyuki.

"YOU ARE NOT ESCAPING FROM ME! BECAUSE OF YOUR SUICIDAL TACTIC, NOW YOU'VE GONE AND GOT US BOTH KILLED!" Miyuki then raised the girl upwards by her shirt. Though she could not truly see, 'Mimic Madness' would have been given the harshest glare by the stern milky white colored eyes of her captor. "You coward, you won't escape me! I promised you that, and I will just have to beat you before the ceiling collapses!" The girl fearfully stared at the unchanging face that Sekken wore. She gave no words, for only sorrow was worn on her face... that sorrow turning into terror followed by an anguishing scream when she was tossed in the air.

Miyuki could feel the power in her body starting to return. Her muscles began to bulk up from how tense they were and her veins bulged from overflowing Ki. Her remaining strength had suddenly multiplied in the midst of her fury. This raging power... she felt more than just her own power behind it.

From the side, she could hear the calm voice of a boy speak: "You can end this... remember our training! If you combine our strengths, they'll stand no chance against all three of us!"

From her other side, a soft female voice would be heard too: "Don't worry about anything, Miyuki! Save our school! For all of us!"

Their voices were distant.. but they felt very real to her. Though she couldn't believe who she was hearing, they spoke the words that she needed to keep moving. With one final overwhelming rush of power, Sekken's fist became many. "THE POWER IN MY BODY IS MORE THAN JUST MY OWN! THIS IS THE STRENGTH OF SORA, OMO, AND EVERYONE ELSE WHO WISHES TO LIVE IN FAIR COMMON SENSE! NO LONGER ARE WE YOUR PUPPETS TO FEAST OFF OF!" The punches rained and rained into the side of 'Mimic Madness's skull. Miyuki's fists would continue to glow brighter and brighter until all of her energy would be focused into a single wind-up punch. This final punch would have been thrown, sending Mimic Madness soaring through the room's ceiling... and many more after that, never to be seen again.

That final rage filled punch violently shook the entire room. Not only that room though, it could be felt throughout the entire school building. This final attack had such incredible strength that it scared even the people outside of the campus... and what would come next terrified bystanders like Detective David and the SAT troop even more.

The exhausted Miyuki stood where she was, taking a deep breath through her nose and then slowly exhaling. It was over... finally. The Goddess of Shadows was gone, and she was the one to do it just before her clock ran out. Her energy had deleted, so there was no escaping what came next. All that was left was to embrace the inevitable fate that would befall her. Miyuki fell to her knees and held her arms out.

A tear would fall down her cheek, then a smile. "I guess this is finally it, huh? I saw this coming. At least I could do it in time..." Miyuki then hung her head low, weeping softly to herself.

At last, the walls would give out to their damage and crumble. Once the walls around her crumbled, the ceiling caved in behind. What was once a massive room was now reduced to a pile of twisted concrete, metal, and rubble in seconds. The damage carried over to the classrooms above, of whom would cave in right behind until a whole section of the school campus was just a massive pile of debris.

-.-

All of New Tako stood still that night. The news was quick to spread the word of the damage done to Maguro High. It would only take a few minutes before every news channel would be filled with the breaking news.

Rescue teams continued to pull away at the rubble, but it took a while to safely locate the collapsed structure. The police, the fire department, the rescue team, and even the locals lent a hand in the effort to find any survivors. An hour of constant work would pass until they were able to get some signs of reaching the bottom.

"Keep looking! There are children under there! We can't keep them trapped all night!" one of the rescue chiefs would demand as more rescue teams arrived on the scene to pull away rubble. There were a total of a hundred people trying to help clean the trashed scene.

More time would pass. The end would be in sight as the bottom is finally reached. Two rescue workers would help each other move a large piece of concrete. Once it was moved a few feet away, one of the workers would call out: "HEY! WE FOUND SOME!"

In a cloud of dust, the bodies of Miyuki Sekken and Omo Manaka would be found together. The two friends had laid next to each other, one softly cradling the other in her arms while wearing a soft and peaceful smile.

One of the workers would grab her by the arm to pull her out. Once she was out, another workers would try shaking her. To their unpleasant discovery though, the moment their hand touched her body, they'd figure out that she was stone cold.

"Nothing... she's cold." one of the rescuers would say, shaking their head slowly at the other.

The second rescuer would wave a hand at more people to come over to help. In moments, first aid kits and emergency workers reached the scene.

"It's freezing cold outside, did you check her pulse?" Another rescuer would ask before placing their ear to the girl's chest and listening for a heart beat. One of their hands would press their wrist. "No... I..." They'd slowly say, then turning their head to the rest of the group. "I feel it! It's faint!" They would exclaim. "Get the stretcher! I'm not sure if they'll be alive much longer. We need to get her to an ambulance, and fast!"

Once that was yelled, the girl's eyes began to slowly crack open. Her eyes faintly scanned the pile of rubble. All of the surrounding workers then looked at her as if they had just seen a ghost! The girl patted her chest, then giving two short coughs. With a sheepish smile, she'd give small wave. "H-Hey..."

The worker nearest to her would quickly speak up, saying: "Hey! How are you feeling? Are you alright? What's your name?!"

"I'm... I'm... Miyuki. Miyuki Sekken." She would weakly reply, looking up at the worker. Her gaze on the worker would then shift to the pile of rubble, noticing the sight of the other girl still laying. Her feet were caught under some of the rock, which some workers were trying to move.

"I-I can move it" she would offer. Her body then beginning to get a soft glow to it as she would grab the rock. With a small struggle, she would begin to lift it out of the way. Once it was out of the way, Sekken bent down and gingerly lifted her sleeping friend off of the ground. Sekken held Omo in her arms in a bridal style, softly muttering "Omo...".

After looking over her for a few moments, her glad expression turned into a solemn and mournful one. "Rest easy, my friend... I don't think I'll ever find someone as good-hearted as you."

With a few small steps, Sekken began to climb the rubble. She could only manage a slow pace, because pushing her body any harder caused her unbearable pain. Her legs were numb, and her head had extreme aches. Her mind had fogged up, and all she could focus on was getting away from this nightmare.

On his radio, David would get a message. "Detective, one of the survivors is coming your way."

"Yeah, I can see them." David would shortly respond, then turning his head towards the approaching Miyuki. "The hell was that?"

"Wow, that's one way to say 'hey, you're still alive! Glad to see you still kickin' Miyuki!'" She'd lightheartedly tease. "Sorry about the megaphone... and the school..."

David softly chuckled, then shaking his head. "I'd rather you come out alive than some piece of equipment." The Detective then looked over at the girl in her hands.

"She's in pretty rough shape, but I'm sure she'll manage. I survived the ceiling collapsing on me, so she should too... right, Omo?" She'd softly ask, then giving the sleeping Manaka a small shake. "Omo...?" She would repeat, then shaking her once more.

Both continued to watch in anxious silence. At last though, some small movement could be seen. The once shut eyelids had begun to slowly crack open. The girl's eyes met with Miyuki's, then a weak smile coming upon her face. "Yeah... we'll be... fine" she weakly responded, before slowly shutting her eyes again to return to sleep.

"Omo...?" Miyuki would ask again, giving Omo a soft shake. "Hey... Omo... I thought you said you'd be fine..." she would then give a harder shake. Her shakes could only work so much... but now there were no more shakes to be given. Omo peacefully laid in her arms and falling into a lasting sleep.

The weight in Miyuki's hands would begin to feel lighter as Omo laid. The contented face Omo wore was now expressionless and empty. Her body would begin to darken until it was all one shade of void black like the night sky. Her body would then quickly dry up, before losing all of its shape. What she once knew as her friend had become dust that sifted through her fingers, then quietly blown away in the night wind.

"No..." She'd groan. Sekken fell to her knees, her hands pressing against the hard asphalt, and then hanging her head low. "No... no..." she'd continue to repeat over and over again until the moment she lost consciousness and blacked out.

EPILOGUE

Maguro High, New Tako Town, Japan. 1 Year Later

Since I blacked out, I wasn't there to experience everything else that went on that night. I had awoken in the hospital room where Detective David would have told me everything. Based on what he told me, everyone who was a part of I-35 and associated with its crimes were arrested and placed in maximum security prisons. Erin Seijo, Light Guy, Crazy Billy, Jen, Steve (who was eventually caught by the SAT during the time I was fighting Stronzo), Mr. Taro's son, and more.

David and I were the only ones who saw Omo's body turn into dust, of which neither of us had an explanation for. Though her body was never found, others were. With some excavation of the soccer field, the police were able to find the dead and decomposing body of Headmaster Sato. Further analysis and studies concluded that he had been dead for just over a year, along with the rest of the school's administration.

The body of Fumeina Megami was also found at the school. Her mother was heart broken when she first learned of the news, and considering her husband had died a few years ago, no one knew how her mentality would handle the loss of her only child. Truth is, is that she wouldn't...

After that night, all of school was canceled across the district. Police had a search warrant for every school in the district to search for any remaining people working for the gang. Students would have resorted to online schooling for the coming semesters while Maguro High would be rebuilt and restaffed.

Miraculously, the police were quick to cover up the existence of superpowers. The destruction of Maguro High would be popularly fabled to be caused by 'worn out construction'. I was forced to sign a contract to never use my powers in the general public, because I too had to take part in covering up its existence.

Just because superpowers were under the radar didn't mean that they were gone forever. There was only a matter of time before the truth would be revealed to the world... and by the time that happened, I would already be out on the front lines and preparing for my next big adventure.

So, that was my first year of High School. Quite the wild journey, wasn't it? Not every day you can say you overthrew a big-bad mafia with supernatural powers. It sounds cool on the surface, but the misery that comes with it is not a fate I'd wish upon even my worst enemy. With I-35 gone, a lot of us had to start over again. I was no exception, rather a big example of this.

-.-

For the first time in just over a year, the doors to Maguro High would open once more. Me? I was the one to open it! I had the honors of being the first student to enter the High School, and as a second year. With a soft smile on my face, I inhaled the warm summer air, and exhaled any stressors that may have laid before me.

My foot stepped in, then followed by the other. Behind me were rows and rows of other eager students who were just as excited as I was to come back! All of us had wandered in with no comprehension of what the day held. Would today be a good day? Would today be a bad day? Some of us would have a rough time, others would have the best time. The gamble was what made me excited... because no matter what the future held for us, we, or at least I, knew that in the end, another day was going to come.

Time moved forward, and life still flowed... and as long as life flowed, there was no stopping it.

My wandering eyes gazed up at the tall ceiling of the gym. The endless height was just as I remembered! "OOp- SORRY!" I would quickly say, looking at the small group of people I accidentally bumped into.

"Ay, watch where 'ya going!" one of them would shout. The shouting one would get a sharp look by the second person.

"Hey, don't be rude! You're talking to Slippy the Untalkable!" the second one would say with a snort.

"Careful, she's gonna ignore you to death!" the third one added, only to catch a surprising sight... I was... laughing too!

"Hah hah, yeah! I'm kiiiinda still working on that one..." I'd gently laugh too, rubbing my neck nervously. "I don't think any of you should be rude, really... because, you know, I am the boss of I-35."

The three would look at each other, then at me. "Oooooh no! I-35, I'm so scared!" they'd mock, only to find themselves eating their words when five other students would walk in from behind.

"Ayyy, you guys are here! Glad to see you!" I'd call out to the five other friends. "You wouldn't want a Hot Tamale now, would you?" I would tease to the three rude students, then lightly poking their noses.

The three students would once again look at me, then the five students standing behind them. "Is she not kidding?" the third one would mutter to the other two. The second and the first would gaze over the school uniforms of the five, of which wore decorated pins on them. The three would then anxiously back away, before turning and making a run for it.

"SLIPPY HAS FRIIEEEENDS!!!!!" They would all shout with shock while disappearing into the distance.

I couldn't help but sigh with a soft smile, then facing the five. "It never gets old... so, New I-35, what's on the agenda today? Planting more trees? Organizing the janitor's closet? Maybe help Ms. Cumber teach art class?" I would ask, one of them quickly speaking up.

"I was thinking about hanging up some more posters for the upcoming soccer game."

"Soccer game? Oh no! When is it? I hope I don't miss it."

"Next Friday Afternoon!"

"Oh, right! We all should get tickets then!"

"Sounds good to me!"

"You don't need to buy me one" I would add in to the group's discussion.

"Huh, why not?" The five would ask, then some even making some small assumptions. "Oh, Slippy's probably got detention again, hasn't she?"

"Aaaaactually no..." I would respond with a small smirk, then grabbing the bottom of my uniform. With a soft pull, I would reveal what was underneath my blouse, which left all five of them in shock.

"NO WAY!"

"ARE YOU FOR REAL!?"

Before I knew it, all five would disappear down the hallway, each shouting "OH MY GOD SLIPPY IS BAAAAAACK!!!!!"

Yeah... today was going to be a good day.

-.-

"So, you've held up well today, Soccer star?" I would be asked that following night during dinner. Dinner would be the same as it usually was: fast food. My parent could afford for it pretty easily with his kind of salary, so he didn't see the need to cook too often.

"Yeah, today was pretty great!" I'd exclaim while unwrapping the packaging to the steaming hot freshly cooked chicken sandwich. "Thought I'd skip out on a few classes with some of my friends to go help the coach prepare for the soccer game coming up."

"Miyuki, what have I told you about skipping your classes?"

I would gently sigh, then proceeding to take a bite out of the sandwich. "Damn, that's a good chicken sandwich."

"Miyuki...."

"What?"

"Don't change the subject..."

"Oh- right, eheheh" I'd nervously chuckle. "What was the question again?"

He would sigh, then shaking his head slowly. "You're one unique girl. Ever since the day I met you, there was always something about you that stuck out like the rest."

"Heeey, are you saying I'm flashy??!"

"Well... you are the one who can glow like a lightbulb... though for legal reasons that's a joke."

"Fine... though don't act like you're not flashy either, Dad." I would say, then changing the subject to a pressing question that was on my mind for a while now. "Speaking of you, how's your new job been?"

"You know I can't talk to you about that... We can't talk about superpowers."

"But you just did!"

"No I did not, I was just saying that we can't talk abo-"

"And by saying that, you are!"

"... listen here you little shit-" He would speak up, though of course, what he meant was in a playful manner much like all of our 'arguments' are. Before our playful banter would continue, he would be interrupted by a ring on his phone. He would check to see who it was, then suddenly groaning. "I gotta take this one, I'll be right back." he would then leave the room quickly.

Of course, as any kid my age, I'd be curious to see what the call was about. Especially considering how urgent it looked, thus pushing me further to eavesdrop on what he was talking about. It had to be from his work, or else he wouldn't have been keeping it so secretive.

"Anderson, we need you at HQ tonight. It's urgent."

"Uhhh, does it have to be right now?"

"Of COURSE it does! We have new traces on that necklace! The lab was able to pick up what the substance was and where it came from. If we find where it came from, then we can potentially find more of these superhumans lurking around."

"Oh. Really? I'll be right there then... do you want them too?"

"Them? Yeah! Bring 'em too. Once we get that location, the president wants to ship you and your whole squad there immediately to investigate."

"Huh, alright then. I'll let them know as soon as possible." With that, he would have hung up his phone, then slowly rubbing his face with a sigh. "Welp... Miyuki!" He would call out, which would be followed by me eagerly rushing over to him.

"Huh, what's up?"

"Tell me... how would you like to travel the world?" He would slowly ask with a smile. Me? Travel the world? My heart raced with excitement and I couldn't believe my ears! Did this mean... I'd get to be a part of his work? This changed everything... an offer I never believed I would be asked before. This offer would only mean one thing for certain:

A new adventure was about to arise... and I wasn't going to miss a single bit of it.
