《The Final Light》Chapter 14: The escape of light

My feeling was right, there turns out to be a hive of mutants and the Geiger counters are off the charts, it is weird that the only couple of items that have survived the war that happened is that and still used as we can’t at the moment create our own that work like these ones so old tech it is but easy to make and use. With the radiation and the hive of mutants it is going to be hard but why was the radiation here not leaking outside when the tunnel was not collapsed or did we all go through the wrong the hole in the ground if so then we are fucked this place may have already been collapsed before the operation and during the time this sector of tunnel was under our control.
How interesting that is something I have to ask Jackson when this is over because this something that could bite us in the ass in the future. After all us are through the hole in the collapse we take out time before we realize we wasted a good amount of time for us to get out of there “Sir, this is a tunnel that has not been mapped for long time” “what do you mean Jones” I look at him and he looks like he is shitting himself “this particular tunnel network is part of the old world tunnel system so this part leads outside and thus would explain why it is highly e-radiated” well oh shit if that is what is going on we are currently and royally fucked “but there a checkpoints throughout the tunnel network that would lead to the main and more known network of tunnels for Last Light” well I take that statement back.
“Winters how long before major radiation poisoning” “well Jones I thought you would know this but it takes around 2 hours depending on the amount of radiation with what we have at most 30 minutes” well we need to go, “I would not recommend going fast as Sir and I have both noticed there also mutants or a hive if you want to call” thanks Kimber “well we have to move fast but slow if not then I can’t wait to help new plants to grow” a nod of agreement followed after I had said that so that is the plan get out of here as fast and quietly as possible simple.
High Combat Commander, Jackson’s POV:
I wonder if the operation is going well or not it is killing me not knowing this kind of information at the moment “Sir, we have a transmission from the Main assault unit or the reinforcements” ”what is it I don’t want to know how long it is until they can confirm that they are with Team: 5165 got it” “Yes sir, they have reached the team sir and are now setting up a more advanced base then what was previously was built by the Team, Sir” I wave my hand to say ‘info received’.

Now that is not breathing down my neck of worries this order just made a completely new one, this government needs to be replaced this is not right, why sentence this talented man for ‘research purposes’ but the reason why is quite interesting though I even doubt he knows what he can do I am surprized with how the government noticed this before the military.
Now I was wrong with how I thought it would be easy it is semi hard to do, that is what she said. I hate it how I am wrong a lot of time, now with what is going on according to Jones we are about halfway to the checkpoint along that way we have discovered new mutants as well while sneaking around, the time we have left as well is around 14 minutes left.
Now during that time we were traveling down the tunnel the headache started to come back but it is not as bad as before when I had it, I swear this headache has to lead to something that is more but I am getting of track with what is going on at the moment which nothing as we are hiding behind an old fridge freezer as the hive is somewhat active now due to an unforeseen noise that we did not look out for at all and that said noise was the timer for a change of filter for a gas mask which made quite a bit of noise, and so that noise that was made woke up a bit of mutants near us, so we are currently waiting for these mutants to go back t the resting state that they were in.
While we are here I noticed something different about them though they seemed to be more hesitant around certain areas of the tunnel and rarely go near them I want to find out why but, the time is getting low. After the last few of mutants go back to sleep we make our move our goal before we have to change filters we want to reach the bend to where we have a straight line to the check point, “Sir, I understand we are meant to be no talk but something is off and we are rapidly running out of time due to what happened we only have 10 minutes” “what do think is off Lich give me sit rep” ”well uh, if you want me to, with the mutants I feel like they are letting us pass through here there should have been multiple times they have spotted us and alerted the others but they haven’t” he does have a good point about them, its to un-natural for them to let people pass “you do have a point there Lich now I am going to hope your off feeling is right” I grab a little timer that I have extra just in case, I set the time to 10 second for it to go off find a place to throw it and release.

It goes off and the whole of the area near it poke up and head to the noise and sit at it, they don’t become aggressive and attack the timer, they sit where the noise is being produced, after that one grabbed the timer and started to head towards the checkpoint, so with that information can’t we just run out of here with out having to be jumped by them “change your filters now ok I have a plan that could go wrong very easily but it could save us a lot of time if my hunch is right” they all look at me and do so because they have that much trust in me or just following orders from a higher up I know Kimber would trust me enough right.
When they were finished with the changing of filters I put 3 fingers and put one down and then another then the last finger went down and I ran for the checkpoint that was out of sight the others followed suit after I lifted off, when I reached the bend I looked to see if we had anymore running to do and tuns out the bend led straight into the check point and there I found my timer all covered in drool, it is going to be a pain to clean that.
The others caught up and started to head inside the check point and taking the larder up and I followed as well, once we all reached the actual tunnel network and not the old one, Jones took a bit to find out where we are but once he did it was smooth sailing from there. Now if I were to have kids I will be telling the story of me escaping a highly radiated tunnel network from the old era I hope that story is told for generations to be.
HCC, Jackson’s POV:
“what is it you need of me Mr, Prime minister” “don’t be so formal Jackson call me by my name I hate being called Mr, Prime minister” “ok then what is it you need Cooper” “well what I want is a particular uprising delt with as it getting out of control” “there is an uprising” the silence I am getting is not a good sign it is probably a major one at that if he is this quiet “yes there is once Team: 5165 gets back I want them to get rid of them” “will do” I walk out of his office and walk back to Military HQ. if he is so worried about an uprising no one knows about he has let the power get to him which will make my moves harder to do to reform the military and government, that time will come I am sure of it.
I also hope Richard got that letter
“Well, we are here the closest we can get to the FOB” Vector Jones he is one person I would not want to piss off at all as if you do ‘oh boy it seems we are facing a cliff but the map says to go jump to reach our location, well here I go’.
After a good walk we did from the check point we found a emergency ladder to the surface and according to our guide we should be close to the FOB so I head up first, it is good climb to do as these tunnels are not small Hight wise I’d say 5 story’s and width ways around 4 story’s so not small but not that big either, but I am at the hatch or man hole I should say, I apply a bit force for it to move up and slid it to the side and head up and the surprise I got when I got out was something “who are you!” “Wait don’t shoot that’s the commander!”

Re-Ordaining of the Chosen
Alea cheerfully hummed as she descended the steps, brimming in upbeat while her colleague, Quarren Leos, shot her a look of skepticism. “So… were you right about him?” he asked doubtfully. She came to a stop for a moment, her humming falling silent before she shook her head, waving her medium length light-blonde hair from side to side. “I was wrong about him.” Quarren raised an eyebrow in confusion at the convoluted response.“But you seem quite happy?” he asked again. “Because I am. But I was wrong about him. He was… so much more than I ever expected.” Alea looked at the sky overhead with a smile. “That boy… no, that man, is amazing. I firmly believe he will come to stand on top of any adversary he faces. He is destined. He is Chosen.” Quarren snorted as he stepped past, shaking his head. “Okay. Each to their own beliefs but you’re sounding like a nutjob. That skinny twig? Everyone calls him a cripple, you know,” he shook his head.“Rumours are always false, Leos,” Alea answered with a disapproving shake of her head. “You wouldn’t know. He is so, so much more.” “I saw him with my own two eyes. I didn’t see anything redeeming,” Quarren rebutted. “Well…” Alea chuckled. “You haven’t seen what I’ve seen.” In the year 917 of the Imperial Calendar, the Great War had just ended between dozens of nations. All were ecstatic when the current generation of the two Archduchy's, after the war, agreed to let their children wed. The excitement was short-lived however when the Aerianne Princess proved to be a dragoness among men but the Kanarian Prince was worse than even mediocre. The Prince disappeared and the wedding was shortly forgotten as society lived on. Until one day the Young Heir of Kanaria returned to Farrien a changed man, bringing demise with him. Follow the story of the Chosen ordained by the Goddess of Time as he returns to the past to right his wrongs and set things back straight again!
