《The Crows and the Plague》The Crow Trap

Sir Emeric, Shlomo, Caleb, and I met outside the inn, having had only just a few moments to throw our uniforms back on. Sir Emeric met us by the front door, pulling up all of our horses with him.
None of us said a word, hoping not to wake any of the people of Codul. With God's blessing, we'd slip out without anyone noticing.
But God, it seems, was not with us that night. Maybe it was because of my sins, or maybe He had some other reason. The sound of glass shattering echoed through the city, and black smoke rose over an orange glow like an early dawn. Dr. Yves' home was on fire.
"Fulk..." I muttered, both in concern and fury for the murderer.
The front doors of every home nearby opened and out walked the citizens, still rubbing sleep from their eyes.
"Fire!"
"There's fire! Get to the well!"
Sir Emeric turned to the three of us. "Ride! Now!"
We all mounted our horses and spurred them as hard as we could. The mares bolted off, their hooves beating the cobblestone streets to make our escape.
Though, we'd not ridden far before we heard a voice cry out, "The Crows tried to kill me! Don't let them get away!"
"Stop the Crows!"
"Kill them!"
The city gates lay far ahead of us, at the bottom of the hill. I might have thought our horses had wings for how fast they flew.
Yet, it didn't take long at all for us to hear the sound of hoofbeats behind us.
"STOP THEM!"
The twang of bowstrings, and arrows whistled past us.
"Don't look back!" Sir Emeric cried.
And we obeyed. A hail of arrows zipped past us. Behind me, Caleb yelped in pain. Part of me wanted to see if he'd been hit, and possibly go back to save him, but I couldn't. I kept my eyes ahead, at the city gates.

The cold night air whipped around me, howling in my ears like a woman in torment.
Zip.
My horse cried out, and before I knew what was happening she fell, throwing me from the saddle. I sailed through the air for but a moment before crashing into the stone streets. My body skidded and rolled down the hill, pain shooting through my every joint. Loud cracks and pops accompanied every hit, but I had no breath with which to cry out in agony.
Three horses rode past me. Then six more. Then ten more.
My head throbbed and spun, my world was a blur of darkness and multi-colored lights all around. My ears rang with a high-pitched sound, like a whistle screeching as a child held it against my neck.
Muffled voices approached, and I could barely make out their words. "Here's one!"
"Take him. The rest will come back for him."
Strong hands hoisted me to my feet. My head fell limp to one side, and agony shot through my arms and legs as they carried me away.
"We caught a Crow!"
Their voices were becoming clearer now, and the ringing in my ears was fading away. My gut threatened to expel every meal I'd ever eaten.
"Take him to the jail! If the others don't come for him, he'll hang!"

Exuperius [DISCONTINUED]
Terravest. The northernmost continent of the world known by many names of legend, but is most commonly reffered to as Athora, has, for eons, served as the land of exiles. Human criminals, dark elves, grayskinned orcs and dwarves that preffer mining with machinery over the traditional pickaxe alike, have come to call this half-frozen hellhole their home. It is a land of great strife, calamity and crisis, where one legendary tale ends only to begin the next, heroes fall down and villains find themselves thrown into lava. Around seventy years ago, a legendary figure appeared out of seemingly nowhere and conquered three human nations, forming a kingdom worthy enough of being called a small empire. However, at the eve of his heirs ascension, the legend breathed his last, leaving this same bloated, chaotic realm without the pillar that kept it together. Already, the carrion nobility, still spiteful for being denied their "rightful" place below the sun, rise up and gather at the court, each eager to consolidate their own power in these troubled times. Tempers flare, power is exercised without restraint and no one expects the hedonistic prince to succeed at keeping the realm together. Alas, as is often the case with such tales, not everything seems to be as it might at first appear and the vain lords of the realm may yet come to regret their carrion will. --- The Content Warnings are there for a good reason. ---

So far, life had done Nuriel Cunningham no favors. The orphaned daughter of a petty thief, she's had to grow up on the streets, with nothing but her wits, her late father's advice, and whatever luck she can scrounge up to keep her alive. However, now that luck seems to have ran out. After being discovered passing as a boy on a ship sailing the Caribbean, Nuriel is blamed for the ship's troubles and thrown overboard, seemingly to her demise. But rather than die, she awakes on the shores of a strange and terrifying island, one inhabited by monsters from a bygone age. Now she has to use every bit of cunning and skill just to stay alive, as one false step could cause her to be torn apart for some ancient creature's dinner. But as she works to stay alive and uncover the island's secrets, she becomes aware of something very troubling. There is someone else on the island, someone not quite human, a creature with glowing red eyes watching her from the shadows. And though the creature seems benevolent, perhaps even friendly, Nuriel is not about to let her guard down. After all, every stranger is an enemy, and there is nothing more dangerous than the attention of another person.

Unfinished - Apologies to anyone who was reading but I have no current intentions to revisit this story Alex was stuck in a rut: He was nearing thirty, and his career seemed to be going no-where; He used to have plenty of friends at university, but had gradually lost touch with them. He had recently started using a dating site, but truthfully he never quite got over his ex. It could be worse; he didn't spend his nights wallowing in self pity. However, he had a sinking feeling that his life was going no-where fast. When Alex decided to take up an old hobby all he really was looking for was something fun to do on friday nights. Thrust into another world by a mad mage Alex must adapt quickly to survive. Unfortunately, Alex showed up late to game night and ends up stuck with a pretty mediocre character in this game like reality. Alex must learn to survive in this new world; just because it all seems like a giant game doesn't make death any less terrifying. This will be my first attempt at writing litrpg. I wanted to set myself the challenge of writing every week and I think knowing people might be reading it will motivate me. I've always worked much better with external deadlines. FAQ Why should I read this LitRPG? I am writing because I enjoy it and you should read it if you enjoy it. If I had to make an elevator pitch I would start off by saying my MC is a rogue type character, which seems a relatively uncommon character at least based on what I have read. I also strive to make the supporting cast three dimensional characters, and not just caricatures. Finally, I can't forget that this is a LitRPG so I have tried to make a RPG system with depth, and one that makes sense. How often will you release chapters? At least once a week is my goal. I am a nurse with a baby at home, so between my hospital and my baby I won't have time for more unless something dramatically changes. Will there be romance? I won't rule it out as I try to let my characters write their own stories. However, there will NEVER be a harem, it just isn't something I am interested in. Gore, Profanity, and Traumatising Content? I don't intend to have any of these present at obscene levels, but my tolerance might be different to yours. The tags are mostly there to cover me.
