《The Maxwells' Legacy》[Chapter 17] Maxwell M. Moriarty's Story - The Duke's Daughter (Part 3)

After following the Duke around the manor, we finally arrived at a set of two gigantic doors…

The Duke stood in front of the doors and took one hand out of his pockets and placed it on the doors. Then he took a deep breath, and with one movement that wasn’t visible to the untrained eye, the doors flew open. I walked inside and was amazed by what I saw. There was a beautiful indoor garden lit by the moon, and in the middle of it all lay a girl with yellow and red hair and dark skin asleep. The Duke stepped forward and spoke,

“This is my daughter, Shefra Skever (Sheff-rra Skee-vir). She had entered a comatose state a couple of days ago.”

The Duke, although trying to hide it, began to shake very slightly, indicating that it was too much for him.

“Your grace, d-do not worry. I believe there is a way to cure her, a-and I will do everything I can to ensure that she gets up again.”

“... Thank you. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have some matters to attend to.”

I bowed as the Duke walked out. I then turned around and walked towards the Duke’s daughter. I placed my suitcase on a nearby table and hung my coat on one of the nearby hedges. I first began by checking Shefra’s pulse, ensuring there were no irregularities, when I turned around and saw James standing at attention near the door.

“James, could you p-please leave the room?”

“Hmm? Are you sure?”

“Yes, James. I am.”

“... Okay.”

James turned around and miraculously managed to shut the door. I then summoned Drafold by my side as I checked Shefra’s current condition.

“Hey, Maxwell.”

“Yes, Drafold?”

“Who’s this girl?”

“She’s Shefra, the daughter of Duke Renild.”

“Wow.”

“W-What’s so interesting?”

“This girl is a living miracle, Maxwell.”

“Explain.”

“Maxwell, she currently has the perfect balance of Devilish and Angelic Blessings in her body.”

“It seems so, b-but what of it?”

“Maxwell, it means if treated correctly, she could become a very powerful existence.”

When I heard this, I paused for a moment and turned to look at Drafold.

“What do you mean, Drafold?”

“Maxwell, if you are able to stop the blessings in her body from fighting, this girl will at least become as powerful as a dragon.”

“Wow, now that’s interesting. But I-I have no idea h-how to do that.”

“And that’s what I’m for! Hehe, I know exactly how to cure and strengthen her!”

“Really?!”

“Yep!”

“Well, then, quickly. Tell me!”

“Well, it is very easy to actually get the treatment inside her, but in order to cure her, that’s where things will get very complex and very tricky.”

“Come on, D-Drafold. I don’t have much time…”

“Pa~tience, Maxwell. I’ll instruct you on how to do it, okay?”

“Okay.”

“Well then, write down and attain the following items. You’ll need an acupuncture needle set, a syringe with a very thin needle, some mana stones, some…”

Drafold continued to list many things, some of which I don’t feel like listing. I wrote the items down and gave the list to one of the nearby guards, who gave it to the Duke, who got everything within 17 minutes.

“Okay, Drafold. I h-have everything.”

“Wow, that was fast!”

“I-I know, but I guess since the Duke’s desperate, h-he’ll get anything quickly.”

“Interesting. Okay, Maxwell, read this book. It is a compilation of all notes and thoughts on the Magician’s Tumor.”

Drafold throws me a holographic book made from mana as he spoke. I almost dropped the book, but was able to catch it. I began to flip through the pages quickly, when I felt my Mind Array activate. It suddenly began to summarize the facts I read and began showing me a recollection of facts. After reading the book, I felt my head grow heavy with fatigue as facts started to flow into my head. As even more knowledge flowed into my head, I fell over.

“Maxwell!”

I felt myself slowly come to again as my body suddenly turned cold. I get up slowly as someone near me began shaking me. I turned around and saw Drafold shaking me, but he was saying something I couldn’t hear, when a loud ear-piercing ring shook in my ear.

‘Hey, Maxwell. This is The Professor. As I am setting up this array, I am leaving you a message in here. I just wanted to tell you this array is actually an array that improves your IQ and increases your overall Intellect, Wisdom, and Awareness. If you’re hearing this message, then that means that your mind is reaching its very limits. This means that going any further would strain your mind too much and could break your sanity. That is unless you use your certificate, Maxwell. Maxwell, while I was working on your Mind Array, I connected it to your certificate. Maxwell, you are a very special boy, and that is why I am going so far for you, so Maxwell, know this. Your certificate is very powerful due to %^!% & *^ *%, [email protected] %^# & *^ ^(&$ #$%*$*#!%#, as it strengthens your mind and your memorization powers. So use it wisely. And finally, you can use your certificate to control your array, so if you ever want to use your array, turn on your certificate. That’s all.’

After that message played in my head, I sensed my eyes whir as my certificate opened up. The world around me began to change, as everywhere I looked, information would pour in about that object. After a bit, I turned to look at Drafold, who was crouching in the corner. I tapped him on the shoulder, calling out to him.

“Drafold, a-are you okay?”

“M-Maxwell! Oh, how I’ve missed you! I was so~ worried about you!”

It seems that Drafold was worried that I had died. I patted his shoulder and calmed him down. I then grabbed his tiny hand and pulled him over to talk.

We started discussing what I had read in the book and various methods to cure the Duke’s Daughter, Shefra, but we always came to a dead-end. You see, even though Drafold knew how to cure her, after telling me his method, I found out that his method only had a 50% chance of survival, and I wasn’t going to play a coin flip game with my patient’s life, so I decided to talk to Drafold about other methods.

“Well, that method won’t work, it’d only make things worse.”

“Yeah, you’re r-right. But what else is there? W-We’re running out of time.”

“Well, there’s- actually, nevermind, it’s impossible.”

“W-What do you m-mean?”

“I was going to suggest using blood imbued with The Dragon’s and Giant’s blessing, but where the hell would you get blood that powerful to combat The Curse of The Earth.” (The official name of the highest level of The Magician’s Tumor).

“I s-see… But what if there’s a chance that I’d be able to acquire that f-for you?”

“Well, then we’d need to put the blood into her body, where we’ll control the flow of the blood.”

“But why d-do we need dragon and giant blessings?”

“Well, dragons are descendants of devils that mingled with divinity, while giants are the exact opposite, angels that started playing around with darkness.”

“S-So by introducing them i-into her body, we create a way f-for the blood in her b-body to reach peace?”

“Exactly.”

“But what h-happens if that fails?”

“That’s why we need blood that has had both draconic and gigantic blessings, as they would’ve existed in harmony in one person’s body, and that is why I said it’s impossible for us to get some of that blood.”

“... Wait for a b-bit.”

“Hmm? What’re you going to do Maxwell?”

I didn’t bother replying to Drafold as I touched the back of my hand, where a dark red magic circle appeared with an interface, asking one question

Suddenly, a portal appeared, where two hands came out and pulled me inside along with Drafold. We continued to fall for a bit, before another portal opened and we were pushed into the Kabbalah. When I arrived, I knew I had come back earlier than expected, as the books, scrolls, documents, artifacts, etc. were still being chained and placed inside their individual icosahedra. I sneaked past the Devils and went to look for Rex, when I overheard a conversation between the Devils.

“Can you believe it? The Kabbalah reduced to mere shreds all because of some guy called The Professor.”

“At least he gave us back everything. I heard he actually rebuilt the chains and icosahedra, and if a book was torn apart, he rewrote everything in it, from the images to the text. Everything was exactly the same.”

“Ah, well, I was just upset that The Kabbalah, the pride of The Devil’s Palace, was broken.”

“But it was also repaired by the one who broke it, so it seems fair to me.”

“I don’t know.”

After hearing all that, I realized something. The Professor was the reason why The Kabbalah was a mess. I was turning around when I bumped into a huge tower.

“Umph! Who t-the hell put a tower h-here?”

“Well, I don’t know whether to take that as a compliment or as an insult.”

I looked towards the source of that familiar calm, but cunning voice, and realized I hadn’t bumped into a tower, but Rex.

“Oh, h-hey Rex.”

“Hello, Maxwell. I’m very busy at the moment, but I guess you came here for an important reason.”

“Huh? How did you k-know that?”

“Because Maxwell, if you came here for some random reason, you better start running.”

Rex’s eyes began to glow an ominous shade of green.

“W-Wait, I did have an i-important reason to be here.”

“Oh, then good.”

“Uh, Mr. Rex, do y-you have any blood that has d-draconic and gigantic b-blessings?”

“That’s it?”

“Um, yes?”

“Well, then, yes. Hold on tight.”

Rex picked me up and shot straight up towards the artifact room.

After Rex entered the room, he began looking at some vials filled with what seemed to be blood. After searching for a while, he walked to the other side of the hall, when I decided it was too quiet.

“R-Rex, how do you guys have s-so much blood here?”

“Well, Maxwell, we demons have discovered a way to replicate blood a couple of centuries ago, and a couple of decades ago, we succeeded in replicating blessed blood. We decided to call this process cloning. So we always have an excess of whatever blood one would need.”

“Woah…”

“I agree. Whoa.”

Rex continued to look, until he pulled out a glowing vial of yellow blood that was giving off a purple glow.

“This blood seems to be the only blood we currently have that has both draconic and gigantic blessings and has been successfully cloned.”

“What d-do you mean?”

“It means that this was the only vial we succeeded in cloning, the others are almost done being cloned. This one, though, is very special, so be careful with its use.”

“Thank y-you, Rex.”

“Good bye, Maxwell.”

I pressed the back of my hand, where the circle and interface appeared again, this time asking whether I’d like to go back to where I was.

When I was dropped back off at the garden, Drafold came back out of the top hat with a dumbfounded look.

“M-Maxwell, where were we?”

“Oh, we were at The Kabbalah.”

“Oh, okay, I thought we were at The Kabbalah for a second, but I knew it wasn’t possible… Wait… What?”

“We w-were at The Kabbalah.”

“EH?!!!”

“Don’t d-dwell too much o-on it.”

“True, I-I guess.”

I walked over to where Shefra was and laid out all the materials, herbs, manuscripts, and tools I had gotten and began to formulate a plan how to use everything, including the vial of Draconic and Gigantic blood.

“Drafold, h-how would the b-blood help the patient again?”

“Since the giants are basically demonic angels and the dragons are divine demons, and since both are at peace, they could help bring peace into her body by balancing everything out by calming down her demonic and angelic blood.”

“Ah, thanks. W-Well, better get to work.”

I put on some gloves and a mask, after which I opened the vial and carefully poured all of the vial into the syringe, making sure not to inhale any of the aura given off by the blood. I check that the blood is at the tip before quickly numbing her neck using acupuncture. I then locate her jugular vein, rub the needle with a healing gel and slowly insert the needle from the side of her neck, trying not to scratch her voice box or her nerves. While doing this, I activated my array and began analyzing the information and compared it to the patient’s vein diagram. Using this, I was able to know precisely when I had reached her jugular vein. When I knew the syringe entered the vein, I slowly began pushing the blood out into the vein. Once the syringe had been totally emptied, I began pulling the syringe out. I was confident that the holes the syringe had punctured into her jugular vein and neck wouldn’t affect her at all, as the gel would just heal the holes instantly. After completely removing the needle, I began the hardest part of the operation. I grabbed a very thin acupuncture needle, and using my array, I was able to locate where the blood I had inserted was. I began poking the needle, using it to block and direct the blood to her spine, hip, and rib cage. By directing the blood to these bones, the bones will then begin producing the blood I had inserted naturally. Every time I was able to direct the blood to the bone, I would use the needle to poke at the bone in such a way that only a bit of the blood enters the marrow, as that’s all it’ll take. I then moved onto the next bone, and repeated that until I had spread the blood every where. I then grabbed a special needle and rubbed on some numbing and healing tonic. I then attached a tube leading to a very big blood bag to the needle and stabbed the needle right into the crown of the Duke’s daughter. Right at that moment, my array was able to pick up that Shefra’s heart rate began to climb as the mana in her body began to climb.

“Hah, e-everything’s going g-good.”

Then Shefra’s head began to turn red as blood began to shoot furiously out of Shefra into the huge blood bag. Then I grabbed another special needle, except this one was even thinner. This time I attached it to a mana storage stone. I then proceeded to rub a green mana conducting and healing tonic onto the needle. I then carefully poked the needle right into her heart, where enormous amounts of mana began to flow into the stone I had prepared. After doing all of this, I sat down on chair nearby and drank some water and took a quick breather, all while keeping track of the time. After exactly 4 minutes, I got up and checked her heart rate and mana level. After ensuring everything was normal, I carefully removed both needles, making sure the puncture holes both closed instantly after I removed them, affirming that the healing had worked. I then prepared a quick brew for Shefra to drink. After finishing the brew, I let it cool before pouring it into Shefra’s mouth, making sure she didn’t choke on the brew. After pouring the brew down Shefra’s throat, I sat down and take a deep breath, stretched out my limbs, and began talking to Drafold for a bit.

“Man, that w-was way too n-nerve-wracking. My hands seem l-liking they’re fazing in a-and out from e-existance from h-how much they’re s-shaking.”

“Great job, Maxwell! I’m really proud of you! I had a feeling you could do it!”

“T-Thank you, Drafold. I guess I s-should go report to t-the Duke, t-though.”

I got up and walked over to the door to leave, when I turned to look at Shefra one last time, but what I saw made my heart skip a few beats. Shefra’s veins had turned pitch black.
