《String//Nagito Komeada》(14)

And so it stands, the time to stop loving her comes.

The world, sadly, likes to take the things it gives.

It gives you a string, and gives you a lover. Gives you a good life, or a life with lessons. The world gives you beautiful things to look at and beautiful people to befriend.

I, of course, being nearly 19, just want the one thing the universe didn't give you:

Freedom to choose.

The string, it ties me and everyone else around me down to a particular thing or person.

It tied me down to Hannah.

It tied her to Hajime.

If only the world wasn't so structured, I could of been with her. Oh, the beautiful love story we would of had. Two kids, in love all their lives, finally get together and maybe even tie the knot.

Again- fate comes in the way.

The world, though, was the one who had me rebel. Had me cut her string. Or maybe it was me? Is the universe in control? Or am I? Some situations I never know.

Did the universe not want me to have any relationship with (Y/N)?

Curiouser and curiouser, huh?

I suppose in the end, it was my ever changing luck that got us to this point.

I remember when we were young, and I would stay the night at her house, she would light a candle. (Y/N) had a tendency of falling asleep before she could blow it out, so it was up to me to do so before I left for the night.

Though I never wanted to blow out that candle.

Blowing out the candle meant it would be dark, and cold. It meant I would have to leave (Y/N) until the next day, or the next time we met.

There, of course, was the lighter though. To light the candle, and make it warm and bright again.

I suppose in a way (Y/N) was- no, is- like a candle.

The warmth that I truly never wanted to leave, the thing that caused a fire in my heart because, when left so alone she could burn cities.

She's my candle.

Unfortunately, the lighter is gone.

So, in the end, it's cold and dark for me. There will never be a next time we meet.

Someone else is making her glow now and that's okay, I suppose.

Truthfully, I knew I would never end up with her. My ending was never destined to be one of a fairy tale.

Maybe for the longest time I had hoped that she would come to me, asking for a future together. Maybe when I went to see her and had the accident, that was the universe telling me it wasn't meant to be.

Now, all these years later, I think I'm finally ready to walk away from the candle and forget about finding the lighter.

The dark is where I plan on staying, if it keeps her burning brighter than the sun.

fin.
