A bell was heard once again. Sighs were exchanged across the dense room. "Ahh, the sweet sound of despair!" Junko stuck her tongue out at everyone. "OKAY! LETS PLAY THE MONOKUMA SHIP SAILING GAME!" Monokuma sounded way too excited for everyone's liking. "Upupupup! Our next ship is one near and dear to our hearts! Let's give a warm Bon Voyage to our next contestants, Naegi and Kirigiri!" Monokuma chuckled.
Kirigiri closed her eyes and got up. She began walking to the door. Naegi was still in shock. He was going in a tight closet for 25 minutes...with Kirigiri! He blushed at the thought. "Naegi-Kun!" Kirigiri didn't turn around. She just twisted the doorknob gently and walked in. Naegi jumped up "R-Right! Coming Kirigiri-San!"
When Naegi got in the room, Kirigiri was already sitting on a bench. The small click was heard, letting the two know that the door was locked. She sighed. "Why do we have to do this? It's completely irrelevant and not helpful to finding out who the mastermind is." Naegi walked over to the bench and sat next to the lavender haired girl.
"It's not so bad, Kirigiri-San!" The ahoge wielding boy smiled in hopes of cheering the stone cold girl up a bit. Kirigiri grinned slightly and then stopped when she saw that Naegi had been looking at her. "What?" "N-Nothing! It's just.. You're so..cute when you smile, Kirigiri-San! Why don't you smile more?" Her facial expression changed for once in forever due to the response the boy had given her.
"I don't like people to know what I'm thinking." She said briefly leaving the boy with a face that could be read 1000 different ways. "That's a shame! You look lovely when you show your feelings!" Kirigiri turned to her side, now fully facing Naegi who had a pink tint to his cheeks and a small curve on his mouth. "Promise me something!" Kirigiri had already been said she was cute so she wasn't sure how to respond very well. She wasn't good at this whole "expression her feelings" thing.
"What is it, Naegi-Kun?" "Promise me...that you'll try to smile more.. At least to me! Because I would love to see you smile more! It gives me hope!" His face was a deeper shade of pink and so was yours. "I-I um, well I am not sure how to respond to that bu-" Kirigiri was cut off by Naegi's sharp eyes. He held his pinkie out, wanting you to intertwine yours with his. "Okay." You gave in and spun your pinkie finger around his.
"Kirigiri-San, will you please promise me something else?" "Um..sure, what is it?" He put a stern face on and grabbed her hands. "Please don't die. Because if we get out of here, I.. I wanna spent the rest of my life by your side, solving crimes and bringing hope to people." Kirigiri nodded and hugged Naegi. His face showed a slight delay but a few seconds later showed happiness and peace within himself. He started to hug back, patting her back.

Kirigiri broke the hug and looked down. "So, I guess we have a deal then?" Naegi nodded and yawned, surprising the detective. "Hey Kirigiri, say.." Kirigiri looked up quickly, faster than Naegi had ever seen, and looked into his eyes. "Do you know how much time is left?" She let out a deep breath that she was unaware she was holding. "I don't know, I think 18 minutes or so? Maybe even more." "Okay, that's fine. Thank you." Naegi replied. "Why would he want to know? Kirigiri thought.
Naegi laughed and scooted over slowly, trying to nonchalantly get closer to Kirigiri. "You've got this, Makoto." Naegi told himself over and over in his busy mind. "N-Naegi?" "Crap. She caught me. Aboard aboard!" His mind was always one step ahead of him. "Oh um, hi Kirigiri-San.." He didn't want to explain what he was doing because Kirigiri would probably slap him.
"What are you doing?" He knew it. Naegi let out a sigh and then explained why and what he was doing. "I was.. Trying to um.." "Naegi, take a deep breath and then explain." *sigh* "okayiwastryingtogetcloseenoughtokissyoubecauseyouaresobeautifulandithinkilikeyou"
Naegi covered his mouth, a new found nuclear weapon that he could not control. "Haha, I mean whaaaaaaaat?" He tried to play it off. Kirigiri's eyes were wide and definitely said "I heard all of this and I'm taking note for future references." "Naegi-Kun did you.. Just say you like me?" "I'm a goner." He thought. Naegi had to reply but he didn't know how. He was just caught but not caught because he just admitted to it, well his heart did, his mind was taking some time to decide.
"Um, well.. Yes, but it's fine if you don't feel the same! I'm fine just being friends with yo-" Kirigiri fell into Naegi with a hug. Naegi's face, once resorted back to normal, had turned a shocking pink now. He smiled and closed his eyes. "No I feel the same, Naegi-Kun."
"R-Really?" Naegi sputtered. "Mhm. I do. But I'm not sure how to express it." The girl's set of deep purple eyes met the boy's emerald ones. "Maybe like this.. Here." Naegi grabbed her hands, shielded by gloves. He looked down at them and then glanced back at her. Kirigiri read his expression and stuttered. "I-I can't do that." She knew what he was trying to get her to do. He wanted her to take her gloves off.
"It's okay if you can't or don't want to. I just want to know everything about you so I can learn what and what not to do. Kirigiri, you don't have to but I would like to see what's underneath. Not just your gloves but also underneath your iron mask. I want to see you smile more. I want to see the real you."
Kirigiri looked down so Naegi couldn't see her eyes, just shade. He held her hands more tightly but still gently. She bit her lip and took her hands out of his grip. "Kirigiri-Sa-" he looked up to see the mysterious girl slipping her gloves off, revealing burn marks all across her hands. She still had her head down.

"This is why I wear gloves. No one wants to see this grotesque sight I have to deal with forever." She released hold of her lip and sighed. "Kirigiri-San.." Naegi gripped her gently but lovingly again. "They're not gross. They have stories. Everything has a story. You just have chosen not to share them. I think they're lovely. They make you you." Naegi began tracing each scar with his fingers, when a tear fell.
Kirigiri still had her head down. She hadn't said a word. She couldn't say a word because she knew she would have to explain her feelings, which she did not want to. She was trying to hide her emotions when a small tear fell and landed on her hand.
Naegi took note immediately and placed his hand under chin, lifting her head slowly. "Kirigiri-San, are you ashamed that you showed me your hands?" Kirigiri opened her eyes. "No it's not that, it's just that no ones ever said those things about my hands. I showed someone once, because I trusted them, and they left as soon as they saw them."
Naegi wiped her tear away with his thumb. "Well I'm not going anywhere." She looked into his eyes again. He was smiling at her, warming her heart by the second. "Say Naegi, if you want, I'll tell you everything. Anything." Naegi sat up a little. "What do you mean by everything?" "You said my scars have stories. They do. I can tell you how I got them if you want to know, I mean you said you wanted to know everything about me so.." Naegi cupped her face. "I would love that."
Kirigiri slipped onto the floor and looked at Naegi. "Do you want to hear or not?" She smiled which made Naegi's heart flutter. He loved when she smiled. Naegi got up and say down next to her as she leaned back onto the cold floor, dragging Naegi with her.
She laughed at him being taken by surprise, he loved her laugh. And the two layer there for what seemed like hours, as Kirigiri pointed to each mark, telling how each came to be.
"How long has it been?" She asked. "It's been about 15 minutes so about 10 left.." Kirigiri sat up, slipping her gloves back on. She brushed her jacket off, as if nothing had happened, and put her iron mask back on. Naegi began to stand up and started towards the other direction when he heard a faint gasp.
Kirigiri started to walk. Had she just opened completely to someone? What did she have left? She turned around and lifted her foot slightly dragging it, causing her heel to get caught on one of the tiles. She took a deep breath, as it really did take her by surprise.
Naegi turned quickly and rushed to her, at the least trying to break her fall. The detective closed her eyes and waited to hit the floor, but she didn't. She looked up and saw Naegi holding her. He was panting and looked like he had seen a ghost. "A-Are you okay, Kirigiri-San?" She continued to look into his eyes. She was lost in them. "I think so, thanks Naegi." He started to help her stand fully, when he stopped and started back into her eyes.
"N-Naegi, w-what's wrong?" Kirigiri had trouble finishing her statement but managed to do it. "Kirigiri.. I-I.. I really want to kiss you!" Kirigiri's eyes widened and she turned bright red. She smiled and fluttered her eyes closed. "You really are an interesting character, Naegi-Kun." He took this as a yes and inched closer to Kirigiri's face.
He closed his eyes and soon enough his soft pink lips pressed against hers. Kirigiri started to stand, wrapping her arms around his neck, as they continued to embrace. He pulled her closer and held her waist. Sparks flew as if there were fireworks.
They both broke it off and stared at each other, lost in thoughts and shades of purple and green. Naegi pulled her close again and held her to him. Kirigiri hugged back, listening close to his heart beat, matching the rhythm with hers. "We only have about 2 minutes. So we should just so we should just wait for the time to finish." They both stayed intertwined with each other, not wanting to move and longing for time to just stop.
And so Naegi and Kirigiri sat back on the bench and waited for time to be up, interlocking fingers. Surely enough, Naegi was right about the time and Monokuma unlocked the door, hoping to see some action. "TIMES UP YOU LOVE BIRDS! GET OUT!"
Naegi looked at Kirigiri and they both nodded in sync. They agreed to not let anyone know what went on in that closet. They both unlocked hands and walked out of the room. Kirigiri had put her iron mask back on.
"Kirigiri-San! What happened?" Asahina shouted cheerfully. "What do you mean? We talked." She was too good at that whole hiding emotions thing, while Naegi on the other hand wasn't too bad but also not very good.
"Naegichii what went on?" Hagakure elbowed him in the direction of Kirigiri. "Ow, we just talked.." "About what!" Naegi started to blush but played it off fast. "All we did was tell stories from the past."

8 167Advent of the Mindfire Mage: A Challenger's Return Story
Updates MWF, 6PM EST! Not so long ago, a story was posted on Webnovel, one that fired my imagination unlike almost anything before or since. It was known as The Challenger's Return: Rebirth of the Rainbow Mage. However, 150 chapters in, the author NightWind, who I'd personally interacted with and begun to consider a true friend, vanished from the internet without a trace. And so, I have acted upon my fervent desire to pick up his torch, to refuse to let his world that stirred such passion in me die. Read below about my own take on The Challenger's Return. Was Lheticus summoned to the Tower by chance, or by choice? Either way, with the new power he wins, he won't hesitate to burn anyone who seeks to keep him from his true love to cinders, and with a unique ability of the highest potential, he may just succeed, but he's just as likely to burn himself down. And as it turns out, the latter case may be woven into his very destiny...can that destiny be changed? And if it is, what will be the repercussions for the Tower? (You may want to read a fair amount of the original Challenger's Return before starting this, as, particularly in the early chapters, many things that are laid out in it are glossed over in this story.)
