《Rebellious Spouse {T.K}》Chapter - 2

A piercing sound of alarm echoed inside the eerie silent room. Where a handsome young male was sleeping peacefully, who didn't even budge at the intrusion. After few minutes another ring echoed, this wasn't any alarm but a phone call which the young lad receives every morning at exact 8 a.m.
The familiar sound of the phone ring finally managed to receive a movement from the sleeping like a log male, who shuffled his hand on the night stand and received the call. The person from the other side said something making the male jolt up in his bed, sleep vanished from his pretty almond orbs almost immediately.
"I'm up", the male spoke, voice getting extra deep and groggy because of his sleepiness as he hung up the call and threw the phone casually. He spent few minutes stretching and yawing to over come his sleepy state and then made a beeline towards the washroom tiredly.
Can't blame him, he has to work his ass off throughout the day. Even if he was a creative manger he has to run around department to department, floor to floor like a faithful obedient dog.
Sometimes the work load is too much that he has to take it at home because anyhow he has to return back sharp at 8 p.m as per his family rules and finish his work at home till late at night. This is the reason he gets a hard time to wake up in the morning.
After freshening up, the handsome male wore a pastel purple shirt paired with black dress pants. He doesn't like to wear a full formal suit because he will abandon the blazer anyway, as he will get all sweaty even in air conditioned building.
Styled his raven hair by pushing it backwards, showing his flawless forehead, wore his favorite watch which was gifted by one his close friends, took his phone, bag and car keys before heading down stairs.
Descending from the stairs, the male noticed his family was already in the dining table having breakfast.
"Good morning everyone", he greeted with a polite bow as he sat beside his mother who smiled at him as everyone greeted back casually busy in their own world.
"Taetae unckie", little jungmin threw himself at his favorite unkie who was beside him.
"Hey buddy", the youngest kim brother cradled the youngest member of the family, showering him with kisses.
"Eat eat.. Or else you will be late for school", the older of the two hugging duo, baby talked making the little bean giggle.

"You are late again, tae", a pretty woman said, smiling sweetly which didn't really reach her eyes but it got unnoticed by everyone other than the aforementioned male himself.
He studied business and was a topper for a reason. His sharp eyes can understand people just by their simple body movement.
"Yeah.. Was tired a little", he mumbled smiling anyway.
"Try to wake up early, taehyung.. Breakfast and dinner should be your priority as family time no matter what", came a stern voice from his father.
"Yes dad", he said bowing his head slightly.
His mother served him his waffles decorated with banana and honey on top. He contemplated whether to ask while starring at the food but seems like his mother noticed his dilemma.
"Somin forgot to mention strawberry syrup on the grocery list, tae.. I will send someone to get it today", she said to her youngest son.
"It's okay mom", taehyung smiled as he digged in, ignoring the churning in his stomach because he hates banana with honey as a topping.
"Tae.. Are you free this lunch?", another pretty lady who is his sister asked.
"Not really, noona", he replied politely.
"Well whatever it is just leave it and help Mingyu.. He was having some difficulty in his project", she said more like ordered.
"It's fine taeri.. Tae has his work-", mingyu tried to deny but was cut off.
"He can help you out, mingyu.. It's his duty", another male voice came from the other head of the family seat who is the eldest son of the Kims.
"But hyungnim", mingyu tried to speak again but was stopped by the raised hand of the CEO.
"I can help you hyung.. Just mail me the details", taehyung said smiling because it was his elder brother's order and he can never deny his elders.
"Thank you, tae", mingyu smiled at the youngest who returned it back.
Little jungmin was blabbering and giggling to taehyung who was smiling and listening to him like always but somin's stern voice stopped the little one to speak further, saying he shouldn't talk while eating, making him pout.
After a silent breakfast, well for taehyung, everyone left to work leaving behind the older kim couple and Somin.
Taehyung took jungmin with him to drop him at school because the little one doesn't like to go with driver uncles. Somin is too busy to drop and pick him up. And Jongin is ceo so of course he is busy.
Taehyung reached the building, greeting back politely to everyone and straight away went to his small cabin consist of a simple desk just in front of big window, a full length shelf and a long couch. A flower vase kept neatly at the corner beside the couch with pretty flowers in it, and some artistic paintings in the wall.

It was simple yet sophisticated as he himself decorated it. Being a kim, his cabin is much smaller but he never mind that. He was satisfied with his small temporary shelter.
There was a soft knock on his door and Rose, ceo's secretary came inside with a smile with loads of files in hands.
Taehyung returned the smile, sighing lowly.
"Let's get started", he mumbled under his breath like everyday since past two years.
After a tiring day, taehyung slumped on his couch, exhausted, it was 6 p.m and staffs are already leaving. He completed his work somehow today because he need to see his one of his close friends on dinner who was whining since days.
Generally, he always meets his friends or anyone from outside during his lunch break so that there won't be any problem but today he had to help mingyu during lunch and reluctantly cancelled his plan.
His friend didn't listen and demanded to have dinner and he couldn't deny. As he has very less number of friends and doesn't want to loose anyone. But there is a dread in his heart, he need to take permission from his father in order to have dinner outside.
As mentioned breakfast and dinner is strictly family time and he needs permission to do otherwise.
But again he has seen his noona and hyung going out for dinner giving an excuse of work, then his father would allow him too, right?
Inhaling a deep breath he called his father, hands already shaking.
"Yes taehyung", came the deep intimidating voice of his father. He doesn't remember when was the last time the older kim smiled at him casually or even talked softly with him or with anyone else for that it matters. That man is always dead serious if its not necessary to smile.
"Evening Dad.. ", taehyung started with a greeting trying hard not to shutter, getting a hum in response.
"Um! My friend wanted to um.. have dinner.. Can I go, dad?", he asked biting his lips.
"Don't you know you are supposed to have dinner with family.. Who is this friend of yours? Is he/she more important than family?", his voice was calm yet stern and cold.
"N-no Dad.. Of course not..-", taehyung started, to defend himself but his dad cut him short.
"You could have had lunch with them.. Why dinner? It's clear you don't want to have family time", he accused without even listening to taehyung who literally wanted to cry now. Disappointing his family is the least thing he wants to do.
"Noo dad.. I helped mingyu hyung during lunch so had to cancel my plans... It's okay I will cancel the dinner too.. Family is always important to me dad and you know that", he said calmly.
"Good.. Come back home on time...you can go for lunch tomorrow or can spend the sunday with them", with that the older kim hung up the call.
Taehyung leaned on the couch defeated. It will be a hard time to explain his friend.
He returned back home greeted his parents and went to his room to chang into comfortable clothes before joining the family dinner.
"Taehyung I heard you wanted to go for dinner. Did you have a blind date?", somin asked in a chirping voice but taehyung clearly heard a mock in it.
"What are you even saying, somin.. Just eat quitely", Jongin said sternly.
"Tae knows his limits, eonnie..so don't talk rubbish", taeri was the next one to defend him.
And taehyung was in cloud nine smiling at his two older siblings who just nodded. Mingyu smiled seeing taehyung getting happy at such small gestures.
"I was just saying.. He is young and can get attracted to anyone", she still tried to prove her point.
"Somin.. Taehyung knows our family rules.. So you don't have to take so much stress", Yejin said sternly, she doesn't like the fact what her daughter-in-law was trying to portray.
Where as hyunbin was quite all these time just having his dinner silently, like always.
After finishing his food, taehyung waited for others to finish so that he could return back to his room. His family has strict table manners.
It was 9.30 when he finally laid on his soft mattress heaving out a tired sigh, thankfully he has no extra work to do tonight and closed his eyes to wait for the peaceful slumber conquer his mind.
This is his usual routine since past two years when he joined the company after completing MBA.

2/17 NOTICE: I'm putting this on hiatus, possibly permanently. I didn't want to spam with an "update chapter", so hopefully here and in the story blurb will get enough eyeballs. There are a couple reasons for ending SSA for now. 1) I wrote the next chapter but wasn't happy with it. I've been less and less satisfied with SSA's quality the more I thought about it. Part of the reason is... 2) I am seriously thinking about trying to publish some novels to help pay the bills, since I don't have my other source of income anymore. I have never asked for anything from SSA readers, no money, not even a review or rating. SSA is written for fun to amuse myself, primarily, and I would kind of feel bad actually charging someone money for something as unserious as that. I don't think it is good enough to ask anything in return. To use an analogy from music, SSA is more like a jam session with a bunch of friends. You're just chiling and having fun playing some music. I mean, if you are Mozart or even Eminem, your jam session is good enough to sell, but for an amateur beginner like myself, haha, no. If I want to publish something, I feel like I need to go the proper route of practice and rehearsals, which might be more similar to a classical concert performance. With SSA, I work from worldbuilding notes and a loose outline, but what you are essentially getting is the first draft with lots of so-called pantsing. Pushing out a web novel like this also means it is very difficult to go back and improve things without breaking everything else downstream. I wanted to try this "jamming" approach, as it was a good way to teach me about another aspect of writing, but to move forward, I think I need to hone my "classical" techniques, which emphasize rewriting, or at least, revising outlines. 3) While I intend to try to make $$$, my actual current goal is to "get gud". I've spent a lot of time recently trying to understand the self-publishing industry, and I'm pretty sure I can make some money by using short-term strategies with my current amateur skill level. But I've seen too many authors come and go/burnout, and really, the only way that I think I can enjoy writing and still make money on a long-term basis is to become a better writer. And the next step for me, which I haven't done much before, is to spend more time on rewriting and outlines. That is pretty much antithetical to the way SSA is developing. I've always been kind of 20/80 plotting/pantsing, but I want to spend a lot more time outlining before I even start writing. SSA jam sessions don't really fit my goal anymore. If you're curious about what's next, read on... Among other regrets, I regret not finishing SSA. It's the first story I've dropped, but then again, it's the first web novel I've attempted, so I suppose that's not a surprise. I don't think traditional web novel formats suit me that well. The whole SSA story I had loosely planned (beyond a first book or major arc) is way too large as well. Big story = good for neverending webnovel with Patreons, bad for penniless and fickle writer like me. I am currently outlining a complete trilogy to another story in great detail. I want the story to end concisely, and I also want the chance to really spend a lot of time on the full outline to spot pacing problems, character issues, lost themes, and so on. I'll still share this story on RR. What I intend to do is finish book 1, flash-publish the whole thing here for a few weeks, then publish on the big Zon. Repeat for books 2 and 3. The upcoming story will be about crafting heroes. The backdrop is an isekai-like setting, where elves will summon humans to their world as heroes, but the whole hero crafting business is still in its infancy. The elven mage researchers are figuring out how to imbue heroes with power, while the heroes are trying to figure out how to use the powers that they gain. Humans are the best hero templates because they are blank and have no intrinsic magic. Or at least that what the elves thought. The human MC has his own secrets... There will be some similarities with litrpgs, but I would call it more a progression fantasy or gamelit story. For example, the stats are very low, at least initially. Say we have a stat called Str. Going from Str = 1 to Str = 2 is a huge deal. Also, going from Dex = 0 to Dex = 1 is an even bigger deal. I guess you could call it a "low-stat litrpg", haha. Also, the heroes won't be gaining stats simply by killing things or leveling up. You can't increase stats arbitrarily, either. There will be rules to how stats can increase, and how they work with each other. The elven mages will be figuring out these rules in order to craft stronger and stronger heroes. Some inspiration will be from cultivation magic systems, but there won't be overt cultivation, at least for now. A theme I really want to explore is the idea of interactions. That includes things like hero crafter vs hero, tactics vs strategy, skill synergies, racial interactions (dwarves, elves, etc), and son. Yeah, so hero crafting. I'm super excited about this project and venturing into publishing. If you want to check out the upcoming story, you can follow my RR author profile to see when it drops here. Finally... THANK YOU TO EVERYONE! I'm very sorry that SSA is stopping, but I hope at least some of you will find the next story at least as enjoyable, if not more. Thanks to all the readers who gave SSA a shot. Big hug or solid fistbump to all of you, whichever you prefer! I hope this message is not a downer but an upper, because I am psyched!! -purlcray -------------- BLURB: Talen, youngest Master of the Koroi, makes his way to the Empire's capital to salvage his clan's fate. But the bustling city has few opportunities for the traditionalist. For the old sword clans are fading. With the rise of alchemy, gold can purchase strength that ordinarily took years of training to cultivate. Sword artists, once rare and accomplished, are quickly growing in number, especially among the wealthy noble class. Even with such alchemy, though, no one has advanced to the rank of Grandmaster in countless years. Talen's true dream is to walk the path of a sword artist to the very end while fulfilling his clan duties. And then the Swordgeists return, fabled founders of all sword arts, gods who had touched the world long ago and vanished. These myths turned into reality warn of a coming threat. Alongside this warning, they issue an invitation to the Sword System Academy, a path to power beyond the mortal realm. But first, they will hold an entrance exam... Story notes:Sword System Academia blends elements of western and asian fantasy such as xianxia and litrpg. I took parts from different genres I enjoyed and twisted them into my own creation. There will be an explicit system, both of the litrpg kind and the hard(ish) magic kind, but it is embedded within an academic structure that will develop over the course of the story. This is my attempt to design a unique type of system, the System Academia.
