As they approached the area of the mysterious portal, they can see groups gathering around it. "Hm, anybody else wanna try it?" One adventure gathering there shouted out with his hands cupped around his mouth. "I will!" The unlucky adventurer raised his hand in the air, Razor turned into his wolf form in panic.
The group of adventurers turned around and stared at Bennett in shock. As the crowd moved to make way for the young boy to walk through while his wolf growled at them, causing them to back off.
"Is this the wolf he told us a few months ago?" An adventurer whispered. "Yeah, but I never thought it was real!" Another whispered back. Whispers began to reverberate throughout the area.
Jack questioned him nervously, "Bennett? Are you sure you want to do so? Well, I'm not looking down on you, I swear! It's just that your bad luck may..." the adventurer in green trailed off. "Aha, don't worry, I'm sure this time my bad luck won't drag me down!" Bennett said optimistically, putting up a thumbs-up sign. "Let's go, Razor!" The green-eyed boy patted Razor, who was in his wolf form, and entered the mysterious, glowing portal and disappeared from there.
"I bet you a thousand mora that he would come back alive with the sword," the same adventurer who was rude to him(chapter 7) whispered to his friend.
Entering the strange dimension, they saw a complicated obstacle course with hidden traps in front of them.
While exploring the domain of obstacles carefully, Bennett nearly got into near-death experiences while exploring it, but thanks to his wolf partner who warned him about the traps incoming, the unlucky adventurer avoided them. Of course, you cannot get rid of his bad luck that sticks onto him wherever he goes, so they had a few difficulties progressing with that, but sooner or later, they would always get back on their feet in no time.
"Phew!" The unlucky adventurer sighed in relief as the mechanic doors opened in front of them. At the end of the room seemed to be an adventurer with brown hair and blue eyes hugging his legs at the corner. Approaching the adventurer in green, Bennett realised it was another one of his old members, Royce. "Royce!" The green-eyed boy said in realisation.
Royce jumped in fright as he looked up at the unlucky boy. "Bennett? You again?" The adventurer in green said, looking unhappy that he was here. The white-haired boy reach out his hand to help Royce up when the brown-haired adventurer said, "No need, who knows if I'll catch your bad luck by doing it?" Royce said rudely. Bennett's smile faded and retracted his hand back slowly. As the blue-eyed adventurer tried to get up, the wolf growled at him furiously, causing Royce to fall in trepidation.

Razor pointed to the unlucky adventurer's hand with his paw, trying to tell his partner to reach out his hand again to help the adventurer up. As Bennett did so, the blue-haired adventurer, trembling from what the wolf did a few seconds ago, grabbed the unlucky adventurer's hand and thanked him for his help insincerely.
"Your wolf is crazy! Learn how to control it!" Royce whispered, which is to no avail as the wolf heard it with his sharp ears. "I don't think Razor's in the wrong, to be honest, you've got to treat others like how you want to be treated, Royce!" Bennett encouraged him. "Oh, whatever!" The brown-haired adventurer said back. Then there was silence between the three of them before the green-eyed boy asked the adventurer in green, "So, why are you here?" "I have no idea how to do this thing to unlock the door!" Royce complained, pointing to a nine-tile platform that was settled in the middle of the room. "We're supposed to observe which platform glows and try to remember. Then, we have to trace it back five times. Each time it will be doubled, like the first try you need to remember 1, then 2, then 4 so on and so forth! By the fifth time, we need to remember 16 of them! And if you get it wrong..." the blue-eyed adventurer trailed off. "What are the consequences?" Bennett asked curiously.
"You will get electrocuted on the platform you're standing at!" The adventurer in green cried out. "What?" The white-haired adventurer echoed. "I got electrocuted once, it's scary! I'm never doing that again!" Royce said, his voice trembling. Sighing, the young adventurer said, "I'll do it." As he approached the nine tile platform, he felt the same weight on his right foot, again, but even stronger.
"I have to Razor!" The unlucky boy said firmly, trying to move forward, but to no avail. The wolf refused to let go. "Don't worry Razor, I'll be alright! I can handle it!" Razor still refused to let go.
Turning his head to the humungous pillar not far from them, Bennett could tell that he wants him to go there. "Oh, uh Royce, we'll be right back!" He said as he follow Razor and disappeared behind the pillar.
"What is it?" The white-haired boy whispered as Razor turned into his human form. "I will do it, you watch," the red-eyed boy said. "No!" Bennett said softly. "I know you don't want me hurt, but I'm worried about your safety too!" The adventurer continued. "Do not worry, Razor's memory strong," The other boy said firmly. "I said that I will protect you." The grey-haired boy said as took one of Bennett's hands and gently placed his above. "Trust me." Razor continued.

The green-eyed adventurer felt his cheeks flush with a light shade of pink. "Alright, I trust you. But please be safe," He said, concerned.
As the red-eyed boy turned into his wolf form, they approached the nine tile platform in the room.
"Go, Razor, be safe alright?" Bennett repeated as he squat down and hugged his legs, watching his wolf partner going towards the platform.
Watching nervously, Razor observed the places in which the platform glowed closely and carefully. Doing it, flawlessly, the wolf managed to succeed the first four times.
When the fifth one came, Bennett's heart accelerate in fear of his partner getting electrocuted. Please, please be safe Razor... Bennett prayed in his heart.
The doors opened, at last, Razor did it! The green-eyed boy got up and went to hug the wolf that was approaching him. Royce, without hesitation, ran straight through the open doors. "I knew I could count on you!" The unlucky adventurer exclaimed. "Let's go now!" He continued as they walked towards the doors that were open for them.
As they were about to go through the door, it shut tightly before they could go to the other side. "Oh no..." Bennett groaned, they did not know that there was a time limit to the door, or was it his bad luck? Razor, who conveniently turned to his human form said, "Razor will do it again, Bennett wait here." "Thank you Razor..." the unlucky adventurer smiled sheepishly.
Though nervous, Bennett could not help but giggle at the bunny hops his partner was doing while jumping from one tile to another.
As the doors opened in front of him again, Razor turned into his wolf form and went through the doors together with the unlucky adventurer.
"Where's Royce?" Bennett questioned, confused. "Royce?" He shouted across the room where there were floating platforms. Each platform was settled slightly far from the other. Below the platforms were hot lava, waiting to engulf them in the event they fall. The heat from the lava was so hot that both of the boys could feel the heat from afar.
"Ah, help me!" A faint voice could be heard, it was Royce's. As the unlucky adventurer strained his eyes, he saw a small figure hanging onto one of the floating platforms, the furthest ones to be exact.
"Fear not, I'm coming!" The white-haired boy shouted back. As the unlucky youngster jumped on the platforms, Razor followed him, concerned about his safety more than his. The platforms were unstable, wobbling here and there, making it difficult to go from one platform to another. When they reached the final platform which Royce was hanging at, Bennett went to him and hold the blue-eyed adventurer's arm with both hands, struggling to pull him up. Sweat trickled down both of the adventurer's foreheads due to the great heat from the lava below them.
Then, it hit Razor as he sensed something terrible is going to happen to the three of them on the platform. As the bottom of his paws glowed purple, he used his teeth to get hold of Bennett's collar. Summoning power in his paws, he made a high jump, carrying both Bennett and Royce to the end of the room. "Why did you do that? It was lucky I brought Royce with me!" The green-eyed adventurer asked with frustration. The wolf remained silent and pointed at the platform they were previously at which vanished not long after.
Shocked, Bennett praised his partner for doing that, without Razor's help, they would have fallen into the pit of hot lava. "This wolf is extraordinary!" The blue-eyed adventurer switched up and complimented the red-eyed wolf. Bennett smiled as they proceeded to go through the door that opened in front of them.
There, they were standing on one end of a cliff. In front of them were black mists swirling lazily, what lies under it was unknown, at the other end was a board sign saying "finish line". But if they were to cross it, they would probably fall from a great height.
"How are you going to get there now?" Royce said in despair. "We need to get through, or we'll be stuck here forever!" The unlucky adventurer said. "But we would fall! That's worse than staying here!" The two adventurers started arguing for a while before the wolf reached out his paw and went forward to the black mists. "Razor!" Bennett's voice trembled in fear, worrying about his partner falling into the unknown.

If you would like a more in-detail synopsis, one that contains minor spoilers, please check out the "Synopsis" chapter at the beginning of this fiction. If you read and enjoy, please leave a rating or review! FORMERLY TITLED: THE GLIMMERLING This story was formerly titled "The Glimmerling", because the first part was a short story of that title; it has since been expanded upon, thus the title change. Chapters 1-8 (30k words) are the first 'arc', if you want to get a feel for the story. To give some context on the setting: Magic is a bit weaker in this story than you might be used to, and we start off following some relatively new magic users. For some perspective, being able to light a campfire with magic is considered relatively advanced for someone who is the age of the main character. Magic can become very powerful - and there are some examples of powerful wizards within this story - but it's not where the main characters are yet. Part of the story is about following them as they learn more about magic. Enemies are also very dangerous, and running, hiding, or trying to talk their way out of a dangerous situation is often a better choice than fighting for the characters. While I have added tags for traumatizing content, sexuality, violence, swearing, etc. I try to avoid super-explicit descriptions of these things. But they are part of the story.
