Squall: Take this!
Squall punched one of the Wither Skeletons' as the Wither Skeleton was sent flying to the wall before falling to the ground and poof out of existence.
(Y/N): Whew...is everyone alright?!
Marie: I'm fine, Master~!
Willow: Same.
Squall: Me too.
You sighed in relief as you spoke up.
(Y/N): I'm glad everyone's alright. We should continue finding those Blaze Rods.
Everyone nodded as the four of you continued on walking through the corridors of the Nether Fortress until Squall spoke up.
Squall: Hey (Y/N), once we get these "Blaze Rods" what do we do with it?
(Y/N): Oh, you see...
You then began to explain to Squall and tell him the plan on getting everyone home.
Squall: I see. Kazuma has a plan to bring us back home is by slaying the Ender Dragon?
(Y/N): Yeah, I hope so.
That's when Marie stops you using her paw as you and Squall stopped in your tracks.
(Y/N): Marie, what is it?
Marie: Shh, listen...
Everyone stood quiet as they heard the sound of a Blaze breathing close by.
Squall: What is that creature?
(Y/N): Blaze.
Squall: That's a Blaze?
(Y/N): Yeah.
Willow: (Y/N)...we found the monster spawn with Blazes...
(Y/N): Looks like we hit a jackpot. Okay, everyone. I want you to kill every Blaze so we can get the Blaze rods.
Squall: How much do we need again?
(Y/N): I think for about...twelve blaze rods.
Squall: Alright, it sure seems easy.
Marie: Master, do we have any food?
You checked in your inventory to see a lot of food.
(Y/N): Plenty enough for us. Okay everyone, on three. 1...2...3!
The four of you ran out of cover and charged towards the Blaze rods and began to kill them.
(Y/N): Okay, I think we've got enough Blaze Rods! Let's skedaddle outta here!
You yelled out as the four of you followed the torches and ran back to the entrance.
Once the four of you got to the entrance, you see Megumin, Yuuki, Iris, and Amy waiting at the entrance as they see you four.
Megumin: Ah, there they are!
(Y/N): Hey y'all!
Amy: Lord Squall!
Squall: Been a while hasn't it, Amy?
Amy: How did you end up here?

Squall: I've been looking for you and Mia this whole time before I ended up here. Everyone in Samuido was worried that the two of you just mysteriously disappeared without a trace.
Amy: Oh...I see.
Amy says as she lowers her head in sadness.
Yuuki: Come on, Amy. Cheer up, I know Kazuma has a plan to get us back home, it won't take long.
Amy: Yeah, maybe you're right.
(Y/N): Anyways, I've got all the blaze rods, we should head back to the others.
Everyone nodded as we all left the Nether Fortress and followed the trace of the torches back to the portal.
Eventually, everyone got out of the portal as Melissa spoke up.
Melissa: Now that we have all the ingredients we needed, what's next?
Kazuma: The next thing we need to do is to craft the Eye of Ender!
Megumin: "Eye of Ender"? What's that?
(Y/N): Uh hold on...
You said as you flipped through the pages of the book to find the meaning of it until you found it.
(Y/N): Right here. It says "An is a craftable item used to locate strongholds and activate the portals within them."
Iris: So this "Eye of Ender" can be able to locate strongholds?
(Y/N): Yeah, that's what it says in the book. In order to find a stronghold to get to the End world. In order to make one, we're going to need blaze powder and ender pearl. Does anyone have Ender Pearl?
You asked everyone.
Everyone: Nope.
(Y/N): Well that's just great. Wait, I thought everyone had the materials ready. Has anyone ever killed an Enderman before?
Amy: No, not really.
Mia: They're tall and scary to fight! They even made scary noises if you look at them!
They pointed out.
Mitsurugi: That's true, but there's an alternative way to kill them easily.
Squall: What are you suggesting?
Mitsurugi: Alright, in order to get ender pearls is by killing Endermen. We will make a small "trap".
Marie: A small trap? How?
Marie tilted her head in curiosity.
Mitsurugi: I'll show you.
Mitsurugi pulls out an iron shovel and began to instruct everyone as they all listened to him.
Mitsurugi: First: Dig out a 3x3 hole. You can replace the floor, like me. Now, make a small roof using slabs. Leave 1 slab open though. We will place a trapdoor here. This will be entrance and exit.

He says as everyone watched him in awe.
Mitsurugi: This should do. Next, we're going to need to enchant our swords with loot 1 or 3 with sharpness if you can.
Iris: Oh, I see~!
Skelly: I see you have a good plan, Mitsurugi.
Mitsurugi: Ahaha, thanks!
Aqua: Anyways, since Mitsurugi built a small trap, can we try to kill an Endermen under that thing?
Darkness: I think we can. We did have blaze rods that we had in the Nether Fortress, but we didn't get Ender Pearls.
Melissa: I guess it's true, we didn't really bother fighting the Endermen.
(Y/N): Alright then. Everyone should rest up, Kazuma, Mitsurugi, and I will fight the Endermen at night to get Ender Pearls.
It's been three nights as you, Kazuma, and Mitsurugi got all the ender pearls and the materials you all needed for the Eye of Ender.
(Y/N): Alright everyone. I think it's time we're ready to fight the Ender Dragon.
Kazuma: Mmhm.
Mitsurugi: Yeah!
(Y/N): To get to the Ender Dragon. We have to get to the End world, we have to find the Ender Portal and it's different from the Nether Portal. In order to find the portal, we use the Eye of Ender to find its location. We throw this thing and it will go in the air and then land so it could point us in that direction to where the Stronghold is. We just keep following it until it stops.
You instructed as you continued.
(Y/N): There are 12 slots around the End Portal which can be activated by using the Eye of Ender. We have too much Eye of Ender with us, just in case if we lose it. Anyway, here we go!
You said as you throw the Eye of Ender on the air and everyone began to follow it. It keeps disappearing every time it stops in the air as you keep throwing it in repeat until it eventually reaches the stronghold location.
This goes on for about 2 minutes until it stops and finally reached its location as you spoke up.
(Y/N): Hey, I think this is it!
Willow: You sure?
(Y/N): Yeah, this is the spot right here. Everyone, be sure to dig straight down with your shovels!
You said as everyone pulled out their shovels and dug straight down until everyone found the stronghold.
Kazuma: We're here! This is the Stronghold!
Kazuma says in excitement as everyone looked around.
Darkness: Whoa, so this is what a stronghold looks like.
Megumin: Yeah, it looks a little old than I expected, and there some mosses on the walls too.
Yunyun: Hey everyone, there a four paths around us. Which way do we go first?
Yunyun asks as Arue spoke up.
Arue: I think we should try leaving the torches until we find this End portal.
Squall: Good idea, everyone spread out into groups and yell if you found the End portal.
Everyone: Okay!
Eventually, everyone began to spread out in four paths.
About a minute or two, you found the End Portal with Yunyun, Marie, Willow, and Mia.
Mia: Is this...
Yunyun: ...an End Portal?
(Y/N): Yeah, this has to be. Everyone stay here, I'll go get the others.
You told them as you sped off to get everyone.
Squall: Is this the portal to the End World?
(Y/N): Yeah, this is it.
Everyone looked at each other as Kazuma spoke up.
Kazuma: Is everyone ready to defeat the Ender Dragon?
Arue: We Crimson Demons are ready to take down the Dragon with our strongest magic!
Iris: Yes, defeating the dragon will return us home.
Megumin: I agree.
Amy: Me too.
Mia: Yuppers!
Melissa: Mmhm~
Darkness: Okay, since everyone is prepared. (Y/N), I want you to do the honors.
You nodded at Darkness as you placed the Eye of Enders around the slots of the End portals as you finally placed the last Eye of Ender at the bottom until the End portal activated. Everyone looked at the portal and only to see the void as you turned to everyone and spoke up.
(Y/N): It's now activated. Once we enter this portal, there's no going back, got it?
Everyone nodded in confirmation as they all had determined looks on their faces as you spoke up.
(Y/N): Okay...jump!
You yelled as you jumped straight into the portal and everyone followed behind you.

The Last Science
[This story is on a temporary hiatus due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. I work in healthcare and unfortunately no longer have the freetime to continue posting on a regular basis. As soon as our workload decreases, I will return. Thanks for reading! 💙] No one ever knows the whole story. Nestled deep in the forests of the Pacific Northwest, something is emerging. Kept in absolute secrecy, it seeps into a fading town, quietly shared from person to person. For Alden Bensen, a directionless high school graduate, this discovery could mean an escape from his empty existence. To Rachel DuValle, perpetually underestimated and dismissed by the world, magic represents a chance to become something much greater than herself. In the face of an unsuspecting world, their decisions shape the growth of a budding society discovering untold power. This potent force offers anyone the power to change humanity forever—or send it cascading into swift and total annihilation. Want this story in smaller bites? Click here! The Last Science is an ongoing science-fiction / low-fantasy web novel series, focused on the modern world with a twist. New societies bud and grow, but the people who make them up are imperfect and flawed. The story includes elements of mystery, action, crime, interpersonal drama, relationships, philosophy, sociology, politics, and much more, all centered on the perspective characters driving the tale. Each chapter is pretty long (average ~8000 words), so find somewhere comfy to read. Content Warning (by request): This series delves into some topics and situations which may be upsetting for some readers. In American rating parlance, the narrative would be rated PG-13 (except for language), but some have noted the story can get pretty dark on occasion. Ars Magica
Our vision comes back into focus. Our eyes, while being able to perceive the immediate surroundings, still leave us with our minds uncomprehending towards what is actually occurring. Sure, there are definitive things that we can focus on, like the fact that we're either out upon the open sea or the open ocean, there not being much of a difference with no land in sight, as well as the fact that we appear to be upon a haphazardly constructed metal boat, whose seams are barely able to keep a hold of themselves in the crashing waves. However, that does not let us understand what exactly is causing the waves in the first place. If we were to rewind time, we'd find ourselves upon a calm sea under a peaceful sky with the only difference, being a small whirlpool that would be the precursor towards this uproar around the boat. Lightning flashes in the sky, with no clouds being near, and anyone actually manning the boat has either died towards the cause of the smashing tides in the first place, or are fighting amongst the flashes of lightning, all while trying not to become devoured, demolished, and utterly decimated by the beast roiling in the whirling waves. To better understand exactly what is happening here, there is one singular event that needs to be understood, that needs to be explained, and that is the arrival of a creature named Dave. Stepping back from current events and going towards this creature's first appearance in the world, we begin to hear the sound of water slowly dripping across rocky ground. The cavern is utterly silent except for this one constant, its cause feeding channels downwards, sloping towards cracks in the rubble along the floor from broken stalagmites and stalactites. And there, lying on top of something which had fallen over recently, judging from its cracks, is a person, the creature named Dave. His form is fast asleep, either from the impact or from an intoxication, judging from the smell upon its breath. A bright light suffuses into it for a second, giving life towards the pale skin, before it slowly dies down back to the comfortable black of the cave that it's within. Before this moment in time, Dave did not exist in the physical world. At least, not in the reality that he finds himself born into. We do not know whether or not his existence is simply a cosmic joke, or something that is being played out on purpose. All that we do know, is that one moment, the body was not in the cave, and simply formed in the next. The actual earliest time that we know Dave exists, is the interpolation of the memories of J-209, which we'll begin looking into shortly to gain context towards the coming narrative that is being written and hastily trying to keep itself written. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Warning: This story has several things which might turn its readers away. The first is that this story has shifting points of perspective. Don't worry about that previous sentence too much though, as the main character will always have a first person perspective associated with them. However, any other character from which we're viewing the story from will either be in third-person, as we are not necessarily in their shoes at the moment, or in first person, given that the narrator is an actual physical presence within the story. For the most part, chapters will be self-contained with their perspectives, so there will not be an abundance of switching perspectives within the same chapter. The most that an average reader would have to worry about is the fact that perspectives can switch between chapters. The second thing is that the main character is a bit on the 'special' side of things. He's not exactly mentally there most of the time, so there will be some times that his personality or his thoughts do not actively align with his actions. The third, and final thing of importance, is the fact that past the first couple of chapters, nothing has been planned in advance. There are arcs and plots that I want to do, want to implement, or have already been set into motion from our main character's introduction to the world, but the method that I use for my story writing and generating leads towards a bit more random chance being enabled. Basically...there's a lot of dice rolling behind the scenes. To not complicate the story further than its regular LitRPG elements, the rolls will not be publicly available. However, there will be knowledge within the author's notes on whether or not there were positive or negative critical rolls that had occurred within the chapter. You have been warned. Updates: Mondays & Fridays (Schedule permitting) Typical Chapter Length: (2,000-3,000)
