Lily was typing on her laptop emailing her father when she felt someone watching her. She lowered her screen to see Jennifer sitting across from her.
"What?"
"What do you mean, what?" she said. "You and Owen show up here soaking wet, smiling like a bunch of goofballs and you have the nerve to what me?!"
Lily rolled her eyes pushing her screen back up.
"Goodwin!" she pushed the screen down completely. Lily leaned back in her chair.
"I am your best friend and roommate, so spill. Right now or so help me I will-"
"Okay!" Lily said. "My goodness you are aggressive."
Jennifer leaned forward with her hands folded in front of her waiting.
"Owen asked for a private tour the other day and-"
"Oh my God!" Jennifer said.
"No, not like that." she said. "Pervert."
"Well what did you expect, between you two and the pervy comments..."
"Anyways," Lily said cutting her off to finish. "I gave him the usual tour and we went to the plains. He stepped in some dinosaur shit, so we went to the river to rinse off...things got a bit rowdy with splashing." she said.
Jennifer raised a brow. "Oh, you kissed didn't you?"
Lily tried to hide her smirk as she opened up her laptop again.
"You did! You did, right?"
"Yes!"
Jennifer squealed. "I knew it. I knew it! You two liked each other from the beginning." she said clapping her hands. "I told Lowery."
"When were you hanging out with Lowery?"
Jennifer's smile faded as she cleared her throat. "Oh just earlier." she said.
"Mmmhmmm."
"Don't-"
"Oh hell no, Jennifer, you can't just harass me about my day and expect me not to inquire about yours."
"We just walked to the main building together but then he saw Vivian...and it was like I didn't exist." she groaned. "What does she have that I don't?"

"Well, looking at it from a distance, perhaps you're a little intimidating to him."
"You mean I scare him?!"
"I didn't say that. But you and Vivian have two very different personalities. Vivian is a lot ...quieter and softer whereas you..."
"Watch it Goodwin."
"Let me finish," Lily said, "whereas you, you're strong and independent as hell. You don't need a prince rescuing you. The prince needs you rescuing him."
"Great." Jennifer said.
"It's a good thing, you tosser." Lily hit her in the forehead with a piece of popcorn before grabbing her laptop up and heading to her room.
"Wait, what did you call me?!" Jennifer yelled after her.
Winston heard Lily walk in and greet the other hatchery workers after he had called her in that morning.
"What's going on?" she asked coming up to him.
"Thought you might like to look at something with me." he said directing her over away from everyone.
"What is it?" she asked in a low whisper.
"Your little friend here hasn't settled down all morning." he said bringing her to the small Pteranodon. Compared to it's siblings the other was nowhere near their size.
"What happened?" she said examining the tear in it's smaller wing. The Pteranodon hopped over crookedly and stopped in front of her.
"They're picking her out...she's smaller and weaker." Winston said. She frowned. "Already...she doesn't even have all her claws." she said kneeling down and grabbing the small feet. The avian dinosaur gnawed it's beak on her thumb.
"You poor little thing." she said. "Can we separate her?" she asked.
"I'd have to get word...I haven't heard back from Dr. Wu or Masrani about her status of being put down."
"I can't understand that every answer in this park is euthanasia."

"It's the quickest solution." Winston said. 'Not the greatest, just the quickest."
She grabbed one of the feeders and sat with the dinosaur feeding it as it ate hungrily. The others tried to make their way over but Lily shooed them off.
"I'm sure you little buggers have had plenty to eat compared to this one."
"When you're finished there, I have another dinosaur I want you to look at." he said.
She walked over after the feeding to see him around some young triceratops.
"They are getting big!" she exclaimed happily. "And they all look so healthy."
"From a distance, they all do. But I wanted to show you our little friend right here." he said. She walked over as he grabbed one by the head gentle under her frill. He grabbed just before her beak and opened her mouth.
Lily gasped. "Where are her teeth?!"
"She doesn't have any." he said. "The rest of them do, but not her. I was going to ask you what you thought about it. She could be perfect for the gentle giant area...but she would never be able to live in the plains, correct?"
Lily frowned. "Those teeth aren't just for grinding but slicing as well."
She opened the mouth of another one. "They have layers on teeth in order to slice and grind to make digesting so much easier on them. They lose them constantly because of the constant wear and tear. I'm not sure this one would be able to chew properly. Why are they having so much trouble with deformities?" she asked.
Winston shrugged. "We haven't perfected anything Lily. Dr. Wu works hard but there's bound to be errors in development. It's not a perfect science."
"Do you know if Mr. Masrani is here?" she asked.
"I did see him a couple of hours ago in the building."
"I'll be back Winston." she promised.
"I'll be here!"
She knocked on Mr. Masrani's door and he opened quickly. "Ah Lily, I was just about to radio you."
"What? Why?" she asked.
"Because I need you to accompany me to the lab for a moment."
"Sure." she said following him. They entered the lab to see Dr. Wu.
"Good Mr. Masrani, Dr. Goodwin." he seemed to be in a better mood than the last time they had spoken.
"Hi." Lily said. "What's going on?"
"Nothing. I just wanted you expert opinion on a few things." he smiled. Simon smiled as well.
"Okay," she said uneasily.
"It's about carnivores and they're hunting skills. We've been debating between the velociraptor and the T-Rex. Think you can settle it?" Masrani said.
She raised a brow slightly suspicious by the randomness of the conversation before shrugging it off.
"Sure, well.. I mean...like I told you before Mr. Masrani at the T-Rex enclosure, the T-Rex are incredible hunters of the night, but so are the raptors. They're both stealth and intelligent. The T-Rex of course has size to it's advantages but velociraptors have this amazing communication sense in their packs, you would never hear or see their attack coming until it was too late. They know how to get low to the ground and not be seen. Chances are if you're seeing one, it's the last thing you'll see."
She continued on as the lab workers and Wu listened and took note. She spoke about the T-Rex a bit more, but she had a bad feeling about the entire thing as she left the lab completely forgetting to speak with Mr. Masrani about what she originally had gone to him for.

The Good Crash: An Oral History of the Post-Scarcity Collapse
"Don't we all feel, deep down, that we deserve the apocalypse?" APRIL, 2028—Global capitalism has collapsed. America has sealed itself off from the outside world, and inside its borders, a revolution rages. All it took was one incredible little machine. That machine turned into two, then four, then eight... like a virus, the replicators spread. As a work of oral history, The Good Crash features over 50 interviews with key witnesses to the events of 2027. The text is rendered in the words used by the interviewees themselves, with light editing for clarity and concision. As such, the book contains language and themes that are not appropriate for children.By capturing the voices to the people at the very root of the revolution, journalist and historian R. Vondersnitch has traced the origins and aftermath of the replicators' rapid spread. Crucially, the book also includes perspectives and testimony from those who attempted to stop the spread of the reps. "Some of these are heroes, too, in their own ways," the author writes in the book's introductory note.
