《Her and I (Kyouka Jirou x Fem Reader)》Chapter Sixteen

"Ahaha yess Yaomomo, kick his little grape colored ass!" Mina cheered from her boat and across ours to the one on the other side, apparently spectating their match from across the lake.

I looked over to see what she was on about, and though Mina's language choice was a little vulgar, Yoayorozu was in fact beating Mineta by a landslide. Jirou caught me looking and glanced back as well before commenting emotionlessly,

"I'm not surprised."

She then quickly glanced back towards our boat's fight, a discreet look of worry glancing over her usually relatively blank features.

The fight had started and Bakugo had repeatedly been advancing to make quick attacks at (y/n), to which she dodged, and he retreated, for the past minutes or so. Somewhat like a hawk diving for its prey. By now he seemed to be getting a little angry after having his attacks evaded again and again by the new girl, and we all knew what happened when Bakugo got angrier than usual. And he must have already been angrier than usual at the start, having his primary objective of the match to be saving Midoriya.

Bakugo struck again, his force building up with each hit, and once again (y/n) was able to just barely avoid him. He hit the water, causing a little wave to roll over (y/n) and Midoriya, the former taking a little longer to resurface after which, further proving my speculation that she wasn't a great swimmer, and making me worry a little for her safety.

Jirou made a little grumbling noise as Bakugo prepared to strike again. She'd been watching pretty intently since things had started up in the fight, and seemed to cringe or recoil slightly when things didn't go the way of (y/n). I found this both odd and amusing, as Jirou rarely had much of an opinion or bias on activities like this, and never really picked anyone to root for, unlike the rest of us. Unless of course it was Kaminari or Mineta in the ring, she always cheered against them without fail.

"Four minutes remaining!" All Might announced through his speakers.

"AH F*CK YOU!" Bakugo yelled. The 'who' of his exclamation was unclear, because he was looking at Midoriya, fighting (y/n), and responding to All Might, but my guess was that it was kind of a general 'f everybody' sort of thing.

He returned to the tip of the boat once again and got in position to blast off, but this time his stance and demeanor looked a little more aggressive than before, and the explosions he was firing up in his hands must've been a little hotter, because I could feel the heat from where I was sitting all the way back behind him.

"Oh god.."

Suddenly I remembered something I'd overheard All Might warning Tokoyami and Shoji about before their first match. Something about (y/n), and injury caused to her, or was it her quirk.. oh, wait, WAIT-

"Bakugo, stop!"

I didn't see it happen. I'd turned to All Might to ask him something when I heard Kirishima yell, which was followed by an explosion significantly louder than the previous ones. And by the time I'd turned around to see what had happened, it was only Bakugo and Midoriya in the water. (y/n) had disappeared.

"Where is she?!" I heard Jirou's voice above, muffled by the tons of water overhead.

"She dove down immediately after.. right after Bakugo landed a punch."

I touched my fingers to my face frantically where Bakugo had hit me, but I could already see little bits of blood rising through the water from the edge of my mouth before my fingertips even found purchase on the shallow wound.

It wasn't bad, it didn't hurt, but it was bleeding.

Bleeding.

Dammit.

"Everyone out of the water!" I heard All Might's voice yell from above, signaling that he'd caught on to my injury. Thank god he had, because at this point I couldn't exactly break the surface to tell them the same without risking them breathing in the fumes of my blood.

I was already running out of breath, but my lungs hadn't begun to burn, so I didn't have much, but I had time. Think.

Right.

I moved my hands through the water as I sank down to untie my makeshift bandage made from my severed and braided hair. Once I had it free, I took one end, folded it, and pressed it to my face.

The cut was so minor that it was sure to be healed within seconds of contact with the near-magical properties of my hair. In fact, if I started swimming up to the surface now my lip would surely be healed and the blood washed away by the time I broke the surface. The question was, could I make it to the surface.

My lungs had started to burn and constrict, and I wasn't sure that I had the willpower- or physical power for that matter- to make it back up in time.

But then, I saw the underbelly of the boat, and a hand. Outstretched into the water, nails painted black.

The familiar sight of it offered to me the motivation to propel myself that last little stretch and grab a hold of it.

"I got her!"

The hand pulled me up, and the second my head was free of the water I took one deep breath of air before bursting into a huge coughing fit.

Once I was on deck the coughing subsided slowly, but I grew tired and my vision began to blur a little.

"Jirou take her to the nurse."

"Yes sir."

I felt myself be lifted off the ground,

"Thank you, Jirou." I managed to mutter as my eyes fluttered closed.

"Call me Kyouka.."

"Okay Kyouka."

"So she's fine?" I was brought back to consciousness by this familiar voice.

"Yes yes she's perfectly alright." An older voice replied.

"Thank god." I heard the creaking of a chair and Jirou sigh in what sounded to me like relief.

"Shota told me about her quirk and it's properties before she was accepted here, and I must say, I was not happy about having a student that likely to endanger the lives of her peers around here what with all the injuries you kids already bring my way. Still, everyone seems to be fine, and she sure did a good job containing it before she could hurt anyone."

So everyone's okay.

Good, I thought as much, but I couldn't be sure. Thank god Shota made me go out to those woods that day, or else I wouldn't have come up with the makeshift solution that did end up saving the day. Despite how short term it really was, it sure was a life saver. Quite a literal one at that.

"But even if she had hurt someone, you could just heal them easily, right?"

Unfortunately, Jirou, that's unlikely. Nearly everyone exposed to my blood or its fumes dies almost immediately, the only exception being if they were really far away and just barely breathing it in. In that case, there would be very little to heal anyway, they'd likely just pass out. But there's no in-between between the harmless short term side effects and the lethal end.

"Oh, you don't know much about it do you?" Said the older voice.

"Bits and pieces I suppose, but not the details, no."

"Well-"

I chose that moment to open my eyes and steadily sit up. I wasn't sure if I was ready for Jirou to know the details. Or rather, I wasn't sure if I was ready for her to be afraid of me. Besides, a talk about my quirk and other traits may lead to a talk about my past, which I definitely wasn't sure for her to know about.

"Oh good, you're awake. How are you feeling?" The older voice asked. It appeared to belong to a small gray haired woman who must've been the school nurse.

"I feel fine." I answered.

"Alright, then. In that case I'm going to go have a quick chat with your teacher. You stay here and rest as long as you need and then head on back to class when you're ready, I believe they've gone back inside by now if you need to know where to find them."

"Alright, thank you."

"Of course. Jirou, dear, watch after her and then walk her back, will you?"

Jirou nodded and the nurse left, shutting the door behind her. Once she'd left me and Jirou alone I looked over to where she was sitting in a chair. Then it struck me that I might've ruined Jirou's day a bit, with her having to leave class and take me here and all.

"I guess I've caused you some trouble. I'm sorry, Jirou." I spoke as I fiddled with the sheets of the bed. I looked up to see her face drop a little bit.

Did I.. say something wrong? Should I not have apologized?

"Ah, it's not a problem, (y/n)."

Yeah, she certainly looked a little sadder, I must have said something wro-

"Kyouka!" I exclaimed in realization, covering my mouth quickly as the word had come out a little louder than intended, "Sorry, I just spaced out for a moment. What I meant to say was that I am sorry for causing you trouble, Kyouka." I paused and then added, "And also thank you."

And then she smiled. It was so warm, even more so than I'd seen before. Her eyes closed and her cheeks flushed in rosy color. She then looked to the side and brought a pointer finger up to the side of her face to twirl one of her ear jacks, a habit that I'd only recently come to notice she did often around me. I'd thought before that it meant she was nervous, but maybe it meant.. something else?

When she noticed me staring she did seem to get a bit embarrassed, however, and tried to return her expression to it's normal neutrality.

"Great, now I feel awkward that it's one sided." She muttered, the little remains of an upward twitch on the corner of her lips betraying her more negative words.

"Well it's a little hard to start calling someone by their first name when that's what you've already been calling them.."

Kyouka chuckled, "I know."

We sat in a comfortable quiet for a few minutes. One thing I liked about Kyouka was that I could just be with her without actually talking and it didn't seem to bother her. She appeared to not expect anything from anyone. So if I chose to talk, she'd listen, and if I chose to stay quiet.. she'd listen. I admired her for that. Eventually though I decided to act in favor of the former for the moment being and broke the silence,

"Well.. to even the scales, you can call me (n/n) if you want. It's Eri's nickname for me and no one other than her uses it so I suppose it's special." I smiled.

"(n/n), huh. Okay, I like it." Kyouka nodded and leaned back in her chair, "You know I'd still really like to know more about your relationship with that little girl."

I paused for a moment before replying with the simplest response I could think of, "We're close."

"Wow. So informative."

We continued talking like that for a while before realizing that since I was feeling perfectly fine we might as well head back to class. Though, as we'd learned after a glance at the clock, we'd actually be heading back to the dorms, as class had ended and hero studies was our last period of the day.

Kyouka offered me a hand to help me out of the bed and we left the nurses office at 5:00 pm, just in time to meet the others in the dining hall for dinner. What an... eventful.. first day of school. It certainly wasn't what I'd expected.
