《Twice Bitten ✔》Chapter 61

The drive was so calming that I fell asleep in the first ten minutes. I woke up during the third stop and saw the others leaving us.

"Hey, why aren't we on the road?" I asked Kayden.

"Don't worry babe. We just needed change for the gas."

"I'm going to go get some snacks, you coming?" he asked

I nodded my head and followed him in. We came back with our snacks and drinks and waited for Dylan to fill the tank. We were on the road for twenty minutes before the car slowed and eventually shut off.

"What just happened?" I asked

"That's impossible!" Dylan yelled.

"What?" Kayden asked

"It says the cars on E."

"What the hell?!"

The three of us got out of the car staring at it in disbelief. I heard the faint sound of dripping and followed the sound to the back of the car.

"Uh, guys? This is probably the answer to our questions."

"Shit there's a puncture in the tank! How the hell does that even happen?" Kayden exclaimed

"Call one of the guys to pick us up," I suggested.

Kayden whipped out his phone and groaned.

"We would be in an area without a signal."

I sighed it could be forever before we actually got out of here. I just wanted to go to the Lake House and sleep. It was still the afternoon, but not many people took these roads, especially during the week.

"Should I wake Kai up?"

"No, we'll figure something out," Dylan said, pacing.

With everything going on I haven't had the time to go through the grimoire lately, so I was short on spells. This sucked. It didn't help that the heat only seemed to intensify as time went by. We were all irritated, and Kai was still sleeping like the dead.

"You know, this might be a little easier if you tried to help!" Dylan grounded out to Kayden.

"What the hell am I supposed to do? News flash Dylan, we don't have any gas. There's not much that I can do!"

"Besides, this was your fault anyway!"

"My fault?!"

"Yes! You're the one who filled the tank! How could you have not noticed it leaking?!"

Then their words came down to angry whispers.

"I can't believe you would put my mate in danger like this!" Kayden hissed

"Your mate? Sorry asshat, but she's my mate, not yours!"

"No, she's mine!"

So much for them getting along. They were beginning to get loud again, and soon they were full-on arguing, and half of the stuff they were fighting over was completely irrelevant. Kai groaned in the back.

"Hey, sleepy-head."

"What the hell are they fighting about?"

"What aren't they arguing about, is the question."

"What happened?"

"There was a puncture in the tank. How it got there, no one knows, but we no longer have any gas."

"You're kidding, right?"

"Nope."

Kai got out of the car and stretched before leaning against the car. We both watched as Kayden and Dylan continued to fight. I really didn't understand. I thought they were finally starting to get along, but apparently, that wasn't the case. When things started looking like they would turn physical, I stepped in between them.

"You guys need to calm down!"

"Don't tell us what to do!"

"Stay out of it!"

I was officially done. They could go fuck themselves if they wanted to. I flinched and took a step back. Neither of them had ever so much as raised their voice at me, so I was at a loss for words. I slid my phone out of my pocket and crossed the street, looking for a better signal. Dylan glanced over at me.

"What are you doing? It's not like you're going to get a signal, come back."

I turned away from him before huffing and making my way to the other side of the road. I stopped suddenly. I couldn't move. There was an ominous presence gradually coming our way. The closer it got, the more bloodthirsty it became, and no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't shake out of its hold. The guys had already gone back to fighting, and I didn't know what to do or say. I couldn't even form the words. How could I explain this feeling? It was here. Even though everything was happening at the speed of light, it felt like everything had slowed down

The truck coming at me, Kai yelling my name, the fear on Dylan and Kayden's face as they moved towards me, and then finally, the impact. As I flew into the air, I felt so disoriented. I could still hear, but everything seemed too far away. The wind whistled and whipped around me, and I couldn't even ask it to stop my fall. I landed with a thud. The sound of my bones crunching and snapping rattled me. The boys were at my side in a second; trying to get me to respond to them in some kind of way, but I couldn't. My breathing slowed as I struggled to make my mouth form words. And then I stopped breathing.
