《Twice Bitten ✔》Chapter 55

I sighed. Astrazia held three meetings in one week on the same exact bullshit. My job was to locate and retrieve Vanessa. I wasn't exactly sure why everyone was so persistent about getting her, but if she could give me the power that I wanted, then I was more than willing to do the job. Or at least that was what I thought until I had met the bitch. Now I admit that I could've been a hell of a lot smoother, but the bitch is fucking crazy! I didn't have time to play romantic games. Ailes pretends to give his full support, but I know the minute you're not useful he throws you right out. Sure things got out of hand, and I got a bit aggressive, but that doesn't mean you fucking electrocute somebody! That shit hurt like a bitch and if the voltage were any higher, I probably would have been dead. I was lucky none of my nerves were damaged. Hell! I was bloody lucky I only got minor burns. I may be slightly more agile than the average human, but that's all I am - human.

I pushed open the heavy metal doors to Astrazia's headquarters. Everyone stopped to stare at me as Ailes; the leader approached me.

"Did you make any progress?"

"No."

Ailes pursed his lips before they settled into a frown.

"Well, I suppose there's always tomorrow." Ailes sighed, clapping my back.

"No."

"No?"

"I quit."

Sure I wanted power, but I wasn't going to kill myself over a power that wasn't even guaranteed. They were only basing all of this on theories and stories passed down. And even if it was true and people were able to transfer others magic into them, then what's to say Ailes won't take all that power for himself. If I were supernatural, my answer probably would have been different. I could be a bit reckless with my life and not actually send myself to an early grave, but once again, I was human.

Ailes nodded in what I thought was understanding.

"Very well, then."

I turned around to walk out. What I didn't expect was for a strazian styled dagger to pierce my heart from behind. Well, isn't this a bitch? Why didn't I think of the consequences of walking away? I landed on the floor with a thud, and no one even made a move to help me. This was how scared of Ailes they were, either that or how much they really didn't give a fuck about me. I breathed out a ragged breath, my blood forming a puddle beneath me. I really hope Vanessa and whoever was in her corner kills these bastards. That was my last solid thought before I faded.
