《Twice Bitten ✔》Chapter 30

When we reached the yard, I was expecting a spellbook or something, but all dad had set up was a glass of water on a picnic table.

"Don't look so confused." Dad chuckled

"We're starting out simple." He said sitting me a foot away from the glass.

"So, what are we doing?"

"You are going to levitate."

"The glass?" I asked

"Nope, the water inside the glass."

I guess dad noticed how nervous I was.

"Stop freaking out. You'll be fine." My dad smiled

"Okay, don't I need like a spellbook or something?"

Dad raised his eyebrow "Those are called grimoires and today we won't need one. Levitating is one of the easier spells so you won't need an incantation for it."

"What am I supposed to do if I'm not using a spell?"

"Visualize the energy of your hand connected by the energy of the air to the energy of the water. It won't work if you don't concentrate, so you have to stay focused."

I closed my eyes and visualized the water leaving the glass and forming into drops as they hovered above the glass.

"I can't believe she got it on the first try." My dad mumbled

I gasped when I opened my eyes the drops of water seemed to gleam. My phone vibrating in my back pocket made me lose focus, and the drops splashed into the cup; resuming its original form. I felt giddy when I saw the proud look my father gave me.

"You did great baby, especially for your first try."

Feeling like a little girl again, I rushed to give dad a hug. It feels like its been ages since we last hugged each other. I missed the sense of comfort my dad brought. For the next twenty minutes, we sat down and talked about witches and magic.

"How come guy witches aren't called warlocks," I asked

"Some consider the term offensive; as it means 'oath-breaker.'"

I nodded my head and tried to organize my thoughts. I still had so many questions.

"Let's take a break from all this. How about you call Leila over?"

"Okay. Thanks, dad." I hugged him and jogged upstairs

I sighed when I flopped onto my bed. I still have so much to learn. All I knew was that my life was slowly changing and whether it was for good or bad; I didn't know.
