《Someone Like Adam》BONUS CHAPTER 1

After a long hectic day in the ER, my shift finally ended and I dragged my exhausted body to the changing room to get myself out of the stinking scrub.
Being a second year surgical intern wasn't easy, specially when you know you have to go back to an empty apartment with no edible food to eat. My stomach growled at the thought and I begged it to bear with me for few more minutes.
Deciding to order chinese today, I changed into my regular jeans and shirt and walked out of the changing room. While I walked towards the elevator, each part of my body ached. I haven't slept in last two days and haven't eaten anything except granola bars and juice.
Thankfully, I don't have work tomorrow. I can sleep like a dog and nobody will be here to disturb me.
As soon as I entered the elevator, I groaned in irritation. "Not now Ben." I requested him and pushed the button of 1st floor.
"What?" he shrugged nonchalantly. "I'm just saying won't you prefer having someone to go back to in this unknown city?"
Ben was known as a huge douchebag and manwhore and I was his next target. He was a third year resident and had a slightest bit of authority over me.
"Do I need to spell it out for you? I HAVE A BOYFRIEND." I emitted a frustrated sigh.
"Is long distance relationship still a thing?" he mocked me.
"Yes." I said. "They are."
"What about your boyfriend? How do you know he won't cheat on you with a nerdy Princeton's scientist?" he asked and I broke out in laughter.
"Cheat? My Adam? Ha ha!" I taunted, making a contorted face.
His tanned face blushed in embarrassment and he frowned. "Whatever King. You're missing out on life." he shrugged and walked past me.
Shaking my head at him, I pulled out my phone and called Adam. Few minutes have passed when he answered the call with an exhausted "Hi Ali!"
"Hey baby." I said as I walked towards the parking. "Missing me?"
"Nope. I almost forgot about you." he said and I gave him a fake laugh. "Seriously." he added and I rolled my eyes.
"Well, I do miss you." I admitted, getting into my car. "I can't wait to see you and hug the life out of you."
I heard his deep, throaty chuckle from the other side of the phone. "Really?" he asked. I could imagine him raising his pointy eyebrows.
"Yes." I smiled. "Okay bye for now. I'll call you once I reach my apartment." I said and cut the call.
Talking to him every night washes away every bit of exhaustion in my body. It's been a month since I last visited him and neither him nor I found any time for another visit. Both of our jobs were really hectic and it was really difficult to live without him.

Just few more years.
...
As soon as I reached my apartment, a surprise awaited me. I opened the door and the smell of masculine perfume greeted me.
"Adam!" I called his name. He was here, I could feel it. I searched for the light switch but before I could do so, a hand pulled me to a hard chest and engulfed me in a hug.
"Happy birthday!" he said and planted a kiss on my lips. I returned his kiss desperately and within no time, slid my tongue inside his mouth, tracing every nook and corner.
I had forgotten about my birthday because of the tough routine. But he remembered, even though his schedule was just as tight.
He pinned me to a wall and switched the lights on, without breaking the kiss. It has been a month since I last kissed him so little desperation was allowed.
My hands fumbled with the buttons of his shirt but he stopped me and broke the kiss. I groaned in frustration but he backed away and said, "Not yet. I have something planned for us."
"What?" I asked, huffing.
"Go to your room and change. I have prepared your bath and your gift is waiting for you on your bed." he said, more like ordered and I pouted like a child. "Go." he said and led me to my bedroom.
After closing the door behind my back, my eyes rested on the outfit lying on the bed and I stifled an "aww". It was a classy and sexy two piece, consisted of a deep V neck tight black blouse and a dark red pencil skirt, paired with a sparkling pair of earrings and black heels. I stared at his gift in adoration and after a whole five minutes, decided to take a bath.
The water was already warm, smelling like lavender. I stripped down and sat inside the tub, letting the scent relax my mind and body.
Oh Adam! You never fail to amaze me.
I spent almost an hour in the bathroom, scrubbing all the dirt and smell of blood off me. By the time I finished, I felt like a new born baby.
Drying my hair, I let them down in my natural waves and decided to go light on the makeup as I knew he prefer me bare-faced. Wearing the new set of lingerie I have bought, I slipped into the blouse and skirt and stared at my reflection in the mirror.
Damn I look good.
"Are you done?" I heard Adam's voice by the time I finished.
"Yes." I said and opened the door, revealing my handsome boyfriend dressed in all black. In the last few years, he had grown more handsome. His hair was better groomed and his muscled were much more defined now.
"Milady?" he pulled his hand out. Giggling, I laced my fingers with him and he led me to my balcony, where a candle light dinner was waiting for me. My stomach decided to make a loud noise at the exact moment, embarrassing me and earning a laugh from him.

He pulled the seat out for me and seated himself in front of me. Pouring wine in two glasses, he uncovered both plates and let the aroma tease my senses.
"Grilled chicken involtini?" I tried to guess the name of the dish. He nodded.
I was too hungry to wait so I dug into the food. A moan left my mouth when home cooked food touched my tastebuds after so long. He watched me with an adoring expressions on his face. The atmosphere was so peaceful that I forgot for a moment that were in a city of California, not on a private beach.
After the dinner, he left the balcony and came back with the dessert. "Tiramisu." he put the plate in front of me.
"Ooh. Fancy." I commented as I gaped at his wonderful presentation.
He asked me to take a bite and when I did, I couldn't help but close my eyes. "It's like Foodgasm." I sighed and when I opened my eyes, I found him kneeled in front of me, resting a small box on his knees.
"Alicia King!" he whispered.
I knew what was coming.
Oh God!
Oh God!
Oh my God!
"Adam!" I tried to speak but couldn't, I was too spellbound.
"Before you, I thought a home is a house where you live. But now, being here with you, it dawned upon me that a home is where your heart is. Home for me is where you are." he said and my hands started trembling.
"After meeting you, I never needed anyone else. You are enough for me, you are everything I have wished or desired, everything I will ever want. You are the person I want to see when I wake up every morning. You make me want to be a better person, for you." his voice was trembling and tear was welling up in my eyes.
He opened the box and pulled out the ring, sitting inside it in its full glory.
"I don't like to speak much or express much. I know it might not be enough for you, I know you would prefer a more expressive version of me but I'm still doing this. Will you--"
"Yes. Yes. Hell yes." I screamed as tears slid down my cheeks. He slid the ring in my finger and I hopped out of my seat, launching at him for another kiss.
"You are the best version of yourself Adam McArdle." I said and snaked my arms around his neck. He hooked his arms around my legs and pulled me up, guiding my legs around his waist.
Without breaking the kiss, he started walking towards the bedroom, his hands struggling with the buttons of my blouse. His lips left my mouth and moved to my neck, sucking the skin and applying gentle pressure onto it, while I unbuttoned his crisp black shirt.
"Wait!" I said, breaking the kiss as he laid me on the bed and moved on top of me. "Did you ask Dad for my hand?"
"Do you think I want to die by proposing you without his blessing?" he smirked and I felt relief wash over me.
"Great." I said and traced his pecs with my nails. "I miss those." He watched me with hooded eyes as I brought my hand lower, to his abs. "And these."
"Don't go any lower." he whispered in my ears and continued kissing the angle where my shoulder met my neck. I giggled and pulled my hand away, letting him do whatever he wanted.
...
We were still in our bath robes, lying side by side, with my head rested on his chest.
"What about our jobs? Long distance relationship is one thing but long distance marriage." I asked.
"Don't worry. I have found a job opening here in Caltech. I'll be moving here within few months." he said.
"Wait! You are moving here with me?" I asked in an excited voice. "Why didn't you tell me before?"
"Because I wanted to be in front of you to see your reaction." he said and pulled me towards himself.
"I love you. I never realised how much I loved you until I spent an year away from you." I admitted.
"I know baby." he said and turned around so that he was hovering over me.
"Baby? Cute." I teased and he rolled his eyes.
"Cute?" he grumbled. "Is this cute?" he asked, opening the knot of my robe.
I nodded, deciding to tease him some more. Cocking his head, he leaned towards my stomach and placed a small kiss above my belly button. "Still cute?" he asked and I nodded again, ignoring the tingling in my stomach.
"I think I need to teach you never to call me cute again." he said and sat between my legs.
I licked my lips im anticipation when his hand traced my navel. I was ready for another mind-numbing ride.
"No. Don't. Adam No." I screamed as he started tickling me. "No. Please." I said between laughters. This was not what I had expected. His fingers tickled the sides of my waist and I tossed on the bed, laughing hysterically like a child, begging him to stop.
"S.. Stop." I kept on laughing, throwing my head back.
"What did you think I was going to do?" he asked in a mischievous tone and I slapped my forehead.
