《Someone Like Adam》68. The Prom (1)

The dress hugged my figure like a glove, showing off the hourglass figure I never thought I had. It even pushed my bust up, giving an illusion of bigger assets than I originally had.

I don't know if Adam would like this dress or not. I don't even know if he was coming at all. I just knew one thing. I needed to see him, sooner or later, or I would go crazy.

I had pinned my hair to one shoulder, leaving the pattern on the back visible. I curled the ends to give them more volume and did my makeup by carefully following a famous YouTuber's tutorial.

By the time I was giving myself one final look in the mirror, I heard the door open and Sophia barged inside. Her eyes raked over me and widened in appreciation.

"You look ravishing girl." she said and wrapped her arms around me to pull me in for a hug. "I bet Adam would regret his decision of taking a break."

I chuckled, still gaping at her mesmerizing look. The black dress made her look like a celebrity, her makeup was on point, her skin looked flawless and her hair was pulled up in a messy yet stylish updo, with few tendrils framing her face.

"I'm jealous. I can never pull off black color like you." I pouted and sat down on the bed to wear my silver heels.

We were still inside my room when I heard Dad's voice from downstairs. Picking up my clutch in one hand, I locked my other hand with Sophia's and made my way out of my room.

"I'm ready Da-" I stopped when I looked at the person standing at the other end of the stairs. His eyes trailed down my body, taking my appearance in and the way his mouth opened and then closed showed that he liked what he saw.

"Adam!" I couldn't speak further because I was spellbound. He was wearing a black tux that stretched against the hard contours of his chest, his hair gelled to a side with perfection. I slowly walked down the stairs without averting my eyes from him. Our eyes bored into each others when I reached in front of him.

"I didn't know you would come." I whispered, fighting the tears welling inside my eyes.

He pulled his hand out for me to hold and then replied, "I told you. I'm not giving up on us." My smile grew wider while a lone tear escaped my eyes and streamed down my left cheek. I just wish he hadn't seen it.

That's when I noticed Sophia, standing by my side, a huge grin plastered on her face. "But I promised Sophia that I-"

"Are you seriously worrying about me Ali? Go get your man." she chuckled and I cast a long, grateful glance at her. From the corner of my eyes, I could see happiness on Dad's face. He knew that I was miserable without Adam.

"Ready?" Adam asked, pointing towards his hand. Nodding, I laced my fingers with his and together, we walked out of the house.

In front of my house, a black, shiny limousine was waiting for us. I first thought Sophia arranged it for us but when the driver opened the door for us, I shifted my confused gaze to Adam.

"I was saving for it." he cleared, keeping his face away.

"Oh." I said and fought the urge to jump at him for a hug. I could see the trace of stiffness on his face that he was trying so hard to hide. He was still keeping a distance and I understood why.

We both slid inside the limo and he asked the driver to roll up the partition. The air was thickened with tension, neither of us was speaking anything. When he noticed me staring at him for too long, the corner of his lips lifted a little. "You look stunning." he said and my cheeks warmed.

"Thanks." A long pause followed my words. "Have you forgiven me yet?" I asked with hope filled in my voice.

"Let's.. Let's not talk about it tonight." he said and once again turned his face to the opposite side.

The rest of the ride was silent. I missed the time when there was no hesitation between us, when we were not short of words to say to each other, before I ruined everything with one stupid decision.

The car halted to a stop in front of the school. He stepped outside first and moved around the car to reach my side of the door. Once I stepped out of the limo, he laced his fingers with mine one more time and we made our way towards the school's gym where the Prom was held.

Boys were dressed in well-tailored tuxedoes, mostly in black, while girls were wearing gowns of different colors and styles. I wonder if anyone was wearing her mother's prom gown. I wanted to, but Dad said she didn't attend her school's prom. Sigh!

I turned my attention to the fine specimen standing beside me. Many girls were eyeing him up and down with admiring glances and I didn't mind at all, because he was mine, despite all the mistakes I have committed and just like him, I won't be giving up on us.

My eye once again traveled accross the gym and stopped when they rested on a particular blonde. Excusing myself from Adam, I made my way towards Emily who was standing in a corner, drinking juice out of a glass.

"A beauty like you shouldn't hide in corners my lady." I teased her when I reached in front of her. She chuckled, thinking that I was probably kidding but I was not. She literally looked like a goddess in that amazing red dress of hers.

"Where's Damien?" I said, looking around.

"He is with his friends." she said and smiled, a forced smile clearly.

I followed her gaze and found it settled on Justin, who was leaned against the wall in one corner, his eyes focused on Emily. My frown deepened at his shameless gaze and I stood in front of her to hide her from his eyes.

"Why can't he let me be happy?" she lowered her head and said.

"I wish I knew." I sighed. After a while, Damien came back and hugged her from behind, causing her to erupt in giggles. I didn't want to be the third wheel so I made my way back to the place where I left Adam but he was nowhere to be seen himself.

So I just stood there and watched the couples dance, all the while waiting for Adam. In the centre of the dance floor, Chloe was dancing with his partner. She was wearing a peach colored maxi dress studded with diamonds and pearls. The dress looked like it cost her a grand and so does the makeup but still, she didn't look interested in her partner and her eyes were rather stuck on Justin.

There was someone else in the hall who caught my attention. A guy I never thought would be standing alone in a corner on prom night. Noah! I bet half of the Redwood girls were drying to be his date yet he came alone.

He really had changed.

I felt a tap on my shoulder. Thinking it was Adam, I turned around excitedly but the excitement washed down when my eyes met with another guy's face. He was Froy, my US history project partner, a really funny guy with a really impressive bone structure.

"Care to dance with the guy who dragged your history grades down to C?" he asked and I chucked. He was right, I got two consecutive C's because he forgot to do his share of work.

"Sure." I said and let him lead me to the dance floor. "By the way, where is your boyfriend?"

"Ssshhh, I haven't come out to my parents yet and my mother is supervising the catering here." he told me and I muttered an instant apology.

"It's fine. You didn't know." he told me and snaked his arms around my waist.

"Where is your boyfriend?" he asked me and I looked around to check if he was back.

"I guess he is outside, he was feeling suffocated." I lied and passed him a smile.

"Oh. You're so lucky Ali. Adam is gorgeous." he said and I slapped his arms.

"He is my territory." I grinned at him and he rolled his eyes.

"Lucky biatch." he gritted, pretending to be angry at me.

We were still dancing and laughing when I felt a presence behind me. "Do I have your permission to dance with my girlfriend?" Adam's annoyed voice hit my ears, followed by the pair of arms that wrapped around my waist.

Froy backed away immediately and left but not before winking at me that seemed to anger Adam more. He didn't know Froy so clearly, he didn't know that he was gay. And I didn't tell him because honestly, it had been so long since I watched his possessive side that I had started enjoying it.

"Who was he?" he said as we both moved with the rhythm of the song, of course his movements were more in sync than mine.

"A friend." I told him and skipped the gay part.

"Friend." he repeated and the tick in his jaw amused me as he continued dancing on the fast song.

After few minutes, the song shifted to a slow, romantic one. The other couples shifted closer and so did us. The light in the gym dimmed, creating a sensual, romantic environment.

His hands on my hips kept my closer to his warm body. His scent engulfed me and I stepped closer until his front was pressed against mine. His eyes were darkened and I knew that so was mine. He rested his forehead against mine while we danced, our breaths mingled together, setting my body on fire.

I wanted to be closer to him, closer than this. His lips looked captivating under the dim light and I couldn't help but want to kiss them, gentle at first, then hard.

He brought his lips closer to mine until they were hovering over mine, but without touching. The ball in the pit of my stomach grew tighter as the desire to kiss him overpowered me.

"Wanna skip the rest?" he asked, his voice was deeper, rougher, sexier.

"Yes." I whispered and my own voice sounded foreign to my ears.

He gripped my hands in his large ones and tugged me along. We exited the gym and trudged forwards, hiding from the eyes of any student or teacher towards a deserted corner of the school.

There was an old changing room at this side, now occupied by old teacher desks, files and books. I don't know how Adam had its key, neither did I ask.

As soon as we walked inside the room, he closed the door and our mouths clinged to each others. Sparts erupted inside me as I finally got to taste his heavenly lips. He was desperate, his actions and the bulge pressing in my stomach showed it. And so was I. It felt like I have been waiting for kissing him for decades, even though only one week had passed.

His tongue fought with mine, his hands moving up and down my back. His warm touch on my cold back sent shivers down my spine and I let out a loud moan.

My hands left his hair and moved to his coat. With hands trembling with anxiety, I pulled it off his body. My next target was his crisp white shirt which gave me a really tough time but at the end, I succeeded in bringing his bare chest out for my eyes.

While our tongues fought for dominance, his fingers fought with the two small buttons on the back of my dress. He tried to open it four times but failed. At the end, he cursed loudly and attempted to tear it apart but I intervened in time and helped him myself.

Soon, we were out of our clothing, skin to skin, mouth to mouth. He pulled me up with the help of my hips and lay me down on a desk. Standing between my legs, he leaned down and kissed my neck while his hands fondled my thighs. His mouth did wonders, nibbling my flushed skin, earning moan after moan from me.

Unable to handle myself, I closed my eyes and rested my head back. My breaths turned shallow as his lips trailed downwards, to my bosoms, down to my navel, still going down.

"Fuck." I cursed loudly when his mouth rested on my sensitive flesh.

From the distance, I could hear the announcement for the Prom queen. It wasn't Chloe like everyone had expected. Instead, it was Sophia. Chloe must be throwing a tantrum by now. I should have been screaming in excitement at that time and I was screaming, only the reason was a little different.
